Am I the only one that was suprised that Nekrataal is going to stay in the core set? Not that it's a bad card (it's really cool) but for 1, the First Strike is completly out of the color wheel. Second, the moment I saw Keening Banchee I thought that we had seen the end of the original 187 man. I for one am glad he's still there, but very suprised about it.
I just hope we get flavor text from jaya. OH CHRIST, i Just noticed that my new god, aleksi briclot, is on the artist list. If he does incinerate, i will WET myself. See his other work, al la flames of the blood hand. he NEEDS to do this. I would sooo get a foil playset. And i'll actually buy 10th now
I noticed that too Also, Terese Nielsen should do Might of Oaks. She really is at her best doing, you know, greenartwork.
I voted Earthquake. Two months ago I played an Izzet control deck, and Pyroclasm just sucked because of all the */3+ critters. If only I'ld have had that mighty quake I would have done a lot better than 3-3.
As for the basic land, I like INV, ODY, ONS, and CHK best. Timeless art (except for the islands in Kamigawa). I'ld hate to see Mirrodin or anything pre-invasion return, though Mirage was not that bad (it actually took them years till invasion came up with better land art).
The thing about Incinerate that amazes me is that I was under the impression that it's too good to reprint. How are they going to compensate for such a powerful card in the environment? Maybe lower the power level of the other burn from the set? Even more importantly, will we get a Jaya Ballard quote in the flavor text?
I voted for Earthquake, as I prefer a reset button to green direct damage.

Well you also have to take in that shortly after 10th is out, Helix and Char will both rotate out of the environment (not to mention seal), so burn will be taking a hit anyways. Perhaps they mean to give us a juicy burn spell (that everyone wants back) in exchange for the loss.
But for those 3 months.... Boros weenie/burn is gonna have a field day

So, lord of the pit replaces Yawgmoth demon as the "big black" finisher rare and incinerate replaces volcanic hammer. Both are improvements. I'm always glad to see necrataal reprinted.
On the hurricane vs. earthquake dilemma, I would choose hurricane since red already gets incinerate as a big boost. It's a pity they won't print both.

I voted Earthquake: Although green has a long history of hating flyers, I dislike the fact that Hurricane deals damage to players as well. That should be red's department alone.

Mirage
Urza's

If you use Frank Karsten`s Online Tech to see how popular a specific deck is, I just made it twice as efficient. You`re welcome.
Voting Hurricane. I don't know about the sketches, but I like the fact that Lord of the Pit is comming back. I was playing with that card when it first came out. Too bad they wont also reprint Breeding Pool.
I'm going to vote Urza Block lands. The islands are the best islands ever.
In the MWS world, for many players, winning also makes you a noob.
The same applies to:
-Knowing the rules.
-Netdecking.
-Not netdecking.
-Using old versions of a card (yeah, it has hapenned to me: "Ugh... ugly pic noob")
-Knowing English.
-Using phases.
-Countering spells.
<@MarkRosewater> THis is a secret we've carefully guarded but for this chat I'm going to spill the beans.
<@MarkRosewater> Some cards in Magic are better than others.
<@MarkRosewater> Ssh, don't tell anyone.
You could make the point for Wildfire. It was high-class during Saga, complete flop in 7th Edition and high-class again in 9th.
Or Millstone, which faded in and out of tier 1 decks.
It's too bad so many people are voting for the old set's basic lands. Sure, Urza has magnificent Islands, but the forests look like $@#%... At least we'll get widely varied styles on the basics
@Earthquake vs Hurricane: My guess is that behind the curtain, Earthquake is competing with Pyroclasm for the slot, and Hurricane with Silklash Spider.
i voted:
hurricane (over earthquake) - show green some love, eh?
tempest, odyssey, ravnica, mirage for the lands - i have always loved the tempest plains and odyssey mountains. ravnica has one or two lands of each color that are just stellar, and mirage was the coolest of the rest that haven't seen much reprinting *cough*onslaught*cough*. i predict mirrodin = 1% of votes; it suffers from being the "metal" world, and doesn't jive well with the rest of the sets' lands.
totally freakin random for the artists. Lord of the Pit: Chippy, Jeremy Jarvis Fountain of Youth: Vance Kovacs, Dave Dorman Howling Mine: Matt Cavotta, Dave Allsop Might of Oaks: Christopher Moeller, Tom Baxa Story Circle: Terese Nielsen, Dan Scott Nekrataal: Zoltan & Gabor, Aleksi Briclot Vampire Bats: Daren Bader, Mike Sutfin Incinerate: Ralph Horsley, Anthony Waters
WTF was WotC thinking with this method of artist voting? it's inevitably time consuming if you want to make a reasoned vote. there's too many combinations to consider. it was a very not-elegant solution to something that could have otherwise been a good idea. without a doubt, it is quite poor implementation on their part just on the sheer complexity of assembling a vote. [/rant]
incinerate in 10th? right on. single-target, low-to-moderate damage burn should always be in instant form! other colors have an overwhelming amount of their lower-powered removal at instant speed... why shouldn't red?

Now playing Transformers: Legends. 27-time top tier finisher and admin of the TFL Wikia site.
my only problem with Earthquake is that it will probably knock Pyroclasm out of 10th. 'Clasm is clearly a better card.
I wish you guys would quit saying this. They printed Wildfire and Pyroclasm both.
I would say there's about a 90% chance that Pyroclasm is in 10th edition anyway. It will knock *Wildfire*, not Pyroclasm, out of the set. Hurricane would probably knock out Needle Storm.
That said, I'm sure Wildfire isn't going to make the set anyways.
There's no reason to assume Pyroclasm is under threat...unless they decide to print Infest. That's the 10% I'm worried about. That'd be a fun vote though.
Oh, and to that guy who said they won't reprint Breeding Pool...I'm sure you mean Breeding Pit, and they totally could reprint it. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they did, to be honest. I bet $1 that there will be a core set card that could be played in a monoblack deck that will feed the Pit Lord. It could be Breeding Pit, or it could possibly be Nuisance Engine. Both of those are a little weird at uncommon though, given the standard base set relegation of certain effects to rare. Breeding Pit seems especially rare-like because it makes tokens *and* costs upkeep.
Another thought; I'm surprised they're letting us choose Ravnica block land art. It's really great art. Really great. But does it kind of violate the basic set concept where a forest is a forest, etc? The same could be argued for Mirrodin, possibly...I'm concerned that the land art is going to confuse those theoretical "new players" that we always think the base set is for.
If incinerate is in 10th, does that mean that incinerate won't be in the Coldsnap precon? Since there's no point having the card available but not standard playable for about 1 year afterwards.
The thing about Incinerate that amazes me is that I was under the impression that it's too good to reprint. How are they going to compensate for such a powerful card in the environment? Maybe lower the power level of the other burn from the set? Even more importantly, will we get a Jaya Ballard quote in the flavor text?
It isn't that much more powerful than Volcanic Hammer, really. Yes, you can play it instantly to hose auras, and yes it pops regenerators, but clearly it does the same thing. 3 damge for 2 mana. I wouldn't expect to see an instant on the level of Char (especially because without the gold block, creature's average toughness' will drop - bye bye Watchwolf) in an expert expansion for a while.
On the Eq vs Hurricane debate:
With the urza lands being gone, its a chance to experiment with X-cards again, which is why the vote is around. I loved earthquake and hurricane, so its an impossible choice really. Nice to see one of them coming back though.
If incinerate is in 10th, does that mean that incinerate won't be in the Coldsnap precon? Since there's no point having the card available but not standard playable for about 1 year afterwards.
What do you guys think?
I think this makes it more likely to be in the Coldsnap precon. People will want cool black border incinerates since they know it'll be standard legal, and it'll sell packs.
Additionally, I think they won't look at cards for the precons as "standard legal" and "not standard legal." This is Ice Age block after all.
Incidentally, I'm sad that we don't get to submit our own flavor text. Boo.
my only problem with Earthquake is that it will probably knock Pyroclasm out of 10th. 'Clasm is clearly a better card.
What! I haden't thought of that. I voted Earthquake 'cause it is more powerfull and I thought it would be better for the set, even though personaly I'd like the set of Hurricanes I bought to be legal again. However if this means no pyroclasm, them that was a bad move.
I definatley think that Hurricane is the right choice. It is really needed to help push a green aggro deck and its absense (or the absense of cards like it) have been holding green aggro down for a long time. As for Earthquake, who cares. Red already has lots of damage based board sweepers, maybe none as effecient as this one, but in red, this card is just one of many similar cards, but Hurrican would have a huge impact.
As for Incinerate, I'm glad its back. Maybe WotC is trying to bring in a new boon series, maybe Last Gasp will be in tenth edition alongside Mana Leak and some unknown Green and White card all that do something for 2 mana involving three (3 damage, -3/-3, counter unless you pay 3).
I'm going to say yeah for Lord of the Pit. He was the first rare card I ever pulled and I loved the art. Actually, he will probably be a lot more useful now then he used to be. The general slowing down and increasing the mana costs of things in Standard is making 7cc spells playable (sort of) and for 7 mana, he isn't terrible.
What! I haden't thought of that. I voted Earthquake 'cause it is more powerfull and I thought it would be better for the set, even though personaly I'd like the set of Hurricanes I bought to be legal again. However if this means no pyroclasm, them that was a bad move.

Will you people stop scaring Wirewood Shadow and the like? Earthquake is probably not going to knock out Pyroclasm. They have vastly different functions and they're in different rarities. At this rate it won't matter because all you people are going to vote for Hurricane anydangway, which might be the better choice even so.

also, green needs hurricane so it has a way to get rid of all those annoying flyers it cant block. people please pick hurricane.

Anyway, on topic, my votes:
Card Vote: Hurricane. Red already has enough burn, spread the love. Plus, this would be an awesome and uncanny finisher for green.
Land Art: Mirage, Tempest, Saga, and Onslaught. Old is good, but I didn't really like Masques -> Oddysey.
Sketches (that i thought about)
Lord of the Pit: Chippy. this was the only one i was certain about. just look up his black artwork :P.
