Why is there so many people complaining about/doubting the CoP break? It makes NO SENSE for white to get SIX color hosers at uncommon, especially when three of them hose its allied colors/itself. It made no sense in the first place, it makes no sense now.
I don't believe this... the COPs would not be broken up like that.
Overall, the list seems really really random.
In terms of 'everything being confirmed', some of the things were just heresay. So what of that heresay, if anything, is confirmed? Also, Kird Ape, Quicksand (oh man, teach new players how lands work by reprinting on that kills creatures? That's the kind of logic that causes stars to collapse in on themselves), and Blinking Spirit just don't seem like base set cards... Blinking Spirit seems like a card they just wouldn't reprint because it doesn't die ever.
Even if they COP breakup works in a flavor sense, I can't even try to justify their absense outside of that factor.
Also, if they print enemy colored painlands, I'm buying a ham sandwich with a crapload of vinegar and eating it. And I'll take pictures and post them for you. In case you were wondering, I don't think they should reprint the painlands and don't think it fits in w/ the concept of a 'core set' that defines the 'core parameters' of magic, but I'd be happy to see them come back.
Yes... you know you want painlands. Just admit it to yourself.
It isn't like it really is out of flavour for a Core Set, anyway... it's a Core Set. Anything that isn't a block-exclusive mechanic is fine.
Even if they COP breakup works in a flavor sense, I can't even try to justify their absense outside of that factor.
Black gets Slay and Execute, and no one complains or feels weird about it not getting similar cards for each of the three other colors. It's about time they get rid of allied-color hosing for white, it just doesn't make sense.
:slant: It's an interesting list, but I really don't want to see some of these cards...
Wayfarer- Not a bad reprint actually. Should be quite helpful with RAV around the corner. Kird Ape- Again, quite awesome to see back. Sleight of Hand- Eww. This basically means that we won't see Brainstorm this time around. It's not bad, but the fact that it's a sorcery really hurts it... Quicksand- There's only a few uses for this thing and they all exist in the XCB formats in the forum games section. Blinking Spirit- Nice. Force of Nature- Cool, but it's kind of overshadowed by Verdant Force. Phyrexian Gargantua- Ok, no complaints. Just as long as they don't make this thing a rare.
The equipment- Morningstar...sure. That's quite fine and will probably be back as an uncommon. The hammer though...that bothers me. Much like Brass Herald, I have this feeling it's coming back as a rare, thus adding chaff to a rare slot. Though I wouldn't mind if this replaced Flying Carpet...(at least Hammer has some use, ie limited, whereas the carpet has basically no use whatsoever.) Leonin Skyhunter- I'd rather have gotten Longbow Archer back for WW, but this works just as well.
CoPs- As long as red stays around, I could care less.
Wrath- Good to know.

Yeah, no Bribery could suck, but hey......there's Eternal Dominion , right? Obviously with a CMC of 10 compared to 5 it's not much of a replacement......but still.

Hmmm thats a funny coincidence.... 2 days ago, I was looking at my cards and found Quicksand which I havent saw in 4-5 months and though: "Hmm this would be pretty awesome if ever reprinted" and now it may be so w00t!!!
Ps: all those cards on your list seems to be awesome cards also so I guess R&D are really gonna try to push their Core Set sales come next month;)

Blinking Spirit - No issue, especially since this is similar to :symw:'s flicker ability.
Force of Nature - No issue. Nice to see that trample is on its way back. Now only if someone can confirm Ball Lightning. (WotC stated the sole reason it was dropped from core was because it had trample.)
Phyrexian Gargantua - A fattie that zings you and gives you two cards is great, but not so great as to cause Phyrexian Arena from getting dropped or preventing Night's Whisper from replacing Ambition's Cost. It would seem its mana cost would prevent this from taking a rare slot.
Loxodon Warhammer - No issue per say, but see below.
Vulshok Morningstar - No issue.
Leonin Skyhunter - I actually think this card could be in 9th and see no reason why it can't since is the home for undercosted fliers.
What I do disagree with pertaining to equipment in 9th is the lack there of this source is sighting. If equipment is going to make it into 9th, and I do believe it will, its going to be an all or nothing investment. Granted that the number of artifacts in the core set has been declining, 6th had 48 artifacts while 7th had 39 and 8th had 31, but even with 30 artifact slots one can fit in 6-8 pieces of equipment in varying levels of rarity. Some possibilities might get shifted in thier rarity for draft purposes much like Story Circle and the COPs did. Because of Equipment, I expect to see an increase in the number of artifacts in the core similar to 6th Edition.
Note: Equipment that would change in rarity are in italic. Those I think could make it to 9th are underlined.
Common:
Leonin Scimitar
Neurok Hoversail
Slagwurm Armor
Viridian Longbow
Vorrac Battlehorms
Volshok Morningstar
Whispersilk Cloak
Uncommon:
Bonesplitter
Blinding Powder
Banshee's Blade
Fireshrieker
Mask of Memory
Specter's Shroud
Surestrike Trident
Vulshok Battlegear
Rare:
Empyrial Plate
Loxodon Warhammer
Nightmare Lash
Scythe of the Wretched
Worldslayer
Adding 14 pieces of equipment out of 40+ slots is not unreasonable. Also keep in mind that this opens the possibility for equipment focused cards to be printed, though I don't see more than one or two making any cut. Nevertheless those cards are:
Carry Away
Disarm
Magnetic Theft
Murderous Spoils
Steelshaper's Gift
Turn to Dust
Unforge
As for the set tinkering, Bribery being removed seems plausible, but very odd since it is one of the few cards has to defend itself. Wrath coming back is automatic unless some fundamental color shifting happens again or if cost shift occurs.
What I can't undestand is why anyone would consider breaking up the COPs. If they intend to hose and then they could drop all the COPs and reprint Greater Realm of Preservation forcing players into to do it. Penance is another replacement option should they nix the COPs. Aegis of Honor would be a good deterent for spell damage. Nevertheless, it would seem uncharacteristic for WotC to break up one of the oldest cycles in Magic.

How are they out of flavor for since it is the color of damage prevention and the home for Story Circle?
im having a really hard time beliving that the wole deal damage to you if you dont pay thing would be brought back to green. Granted they are bringing back yag. demon but thats black and that makes sence.
You forgot Steelshaper's Gift, definitely the most important of the bunch.

Function over nostalgy. Think about it, why does every other color get two hosers per base set while white gets a whooping seven? This hurts white as much as it seems. By getting rid of the disposable Circles (that are NEVER used anyway), they 1) enforce the concept of allied/enemy colors, which is fundamental for the game, especially in the Core Set, and 2) open up much needed space to further develop what white has to offer in the core set. We lose the "nostalgia" value, but we gain much more. I'll be very pleased to see CoPs W, U, and G go.
I don't particularly want these to be real simply because I want Brainstorm to be back, but most of them seem fairly plausible (except for Quicksand. That just seems weird.)
As for the CoPs, I agree that it's time that they get cut down to Red and Black. It may not seem very vintage to the crowd, but it doesn't make any sense for white to be able to hose itself the way it does.
Please for the love of God someone tell me what's so wierd or awkward about a Quicksand reprint? Please tell me why is it so controversial ala Hyppie when 1st heard so please some explain to me thoroughly and intelligently why. If you're gonna waste my time, might as well make it worth it

"If you desire the spleen, and will laugh yourself into stitches, follow me." -- Twelfth Night
I will be very glad if Bribery does not get reprinted in 9th. I've always been a fan of reanimation strategy, and it's not exactly fun when the blue mage can basically zombify a creature from your deck for only U more than zombify (yes, I know Zombify is black :P) AND remove a large threat from your deck. And see what threats are needed to be taken care of. Blue shouldn't have such easy ways of removing threats (including Shackles, which I'll be VERY glad to see go out when Mirrodin does.)
If Kird Ape and Hippy get reprinted, it will not only bring back players who remembered those cards fondly, but help bring back the archetypes that they were in (aggro R/G and MBA.. or anything with black, for that matter.) Those cards don't have the support that they did before that would cause them to warp the meta game (Taiga and Dark Ritual.)
I can see Leonin Skyhunter's return as WoTC wants to keep WW in the forefront, and a 2/2 flier for WW is a solid creature for it that'll help keep it in the forefront for the next few years. The Wayfarer is another solid creature for the WW deck as well, so I can definately see those 2 creatures returning.
as a rule, artifacts are not common. with the exception of the mirrodin block (set on an artifact world), we have not seen a common artifact since tempest. artifacts are supposed to be "special," hard to find things...these would be uncommon if they were in there at all.
grimshaw: Just pointing out one thing tough... artifacts as common arent in the core set..
All the card changes are quite plausible but there is no way to proove/disproove this without any more info so I think the thread should be closed until something new appears...

I love the changes and assume they are doing them because sales are hurting. I mean why make a good base set after so many years of suckyness? IE Money, BLING BLING. IMO they should have make the 10 Pain lands standard in the base set right after they printed them.
They keep playing around with variants of duals, They should just put the pain ones in the basic set and call it a day. It's way more fun when they release sets when we have exisiting lands that can support the multi color cards.
hopefully, equipment will replace charms in uncommon artifact slots.
As rumor has it, the Darksteel charms (Angel's Feather, etc) will replace the 'lucky charm' base set cycle.

Personally, I think this could be true. I do not know if they would break up the C.0.p cycle like that because they never did before. However, it does make sense becuase White should not able to hit other colors than the ones that are enemies. But if they did this, why not just reprint Greater Realm of Preservation and Story circle? Idk.
