First off i dont think that maro was really serious, and im sure hes sitting in his office lauhging at us getting all caught up over a little joke.
Secondly i would just like to point out to whoever said that birds would be out of type 2 in about 3 years that it will most likely be printed in 10th edition and ravnica will still be lagal then.
there is however a time much closer that it will not be legal, and that is the time after ninth becomes legal till ravnica becomes legal. because as soon as ninth comes in the birds of old will leave until they come back in rav about 2 months later.

However, it shouldn't affect any major tournaments. Though I do not know when Nats are scheduled to happen, Regionals happen prior to 9th (so 8th birds are still legal) and Worlds happen in December (post Ravnica release so Rav birds will be legal).
I think that if educate or the r/g for u1 varient is printed it would be for Rav not Saviors because:
1. Rav's codename is/was control, this is control week at mtg.com (of course they aren't refering to Rav and Mark said as much but he might actually try to sneak the first promo out anyway, april fools or no) (and last year MaRo told us about unhinged and although he didn't preview a card at thet point it was still very early information)
2. they will probobly want to let scepter rotate out of standard before they print this card, they have not been giving us much in the way of hard counters that can be put on the no stick in type 2 (and a spell that counters red and green spells would help protect the scepter also)

i don't see any reason why wizards wouldn't or couldn't print educate or a red version of it. both fit the color wheel and both are reasonably costed, and neither would be particularily useful, the only time a color specific counterspell is run in a deck(well in SB anyway) is when a particular color has become dominant in the metagame(like hydroblast and blue elemental blast are both playable in legacy because there is usually a high number of aggro red or red green style decks in the metagame) and as a monoblue control player myself unless my local metagame was 75% green i wouldn't even run educate in the SB.
It would make sense to give blue counters for its enemy colors, its exactly like black has kill spells for its 2 enemy colors; slay/execute.
That doesn't sound like that great of a card all in all. It might have its niche if some version of mono-green rises up to dominate the meta like raffinity dominated the meta, but since I don't see them printing something like Greeninity (this card costs less for each green permanent you control) it would be a nice idea but an ultimately unused conter, like flash counter or hisoka's defiance.

I hope they don't print that at U. That card is just nutty in a green-blue matchup. What can a green deck do to a blue deck for 1 mana? Nothing.
Well, keep in mind that cards are usually way better in their first design than as they end up appearing on the card. If this were to see print it's mana cost would probably change, or there'd probably end up being some draw back. It has to go through all the other processes in set development and design first. But as I said already somewhere at some point and time I don't remember, this is probably just a made up spell he used as a tool for his column. However "Educate" would be in flavor for blue, and the Soratami. Hell, it could be made to hose T&N and B/G Death Cloud until the fall *shrugs*
As it is, I think it'd be cool if they'd make one of these for each color that counters one of it's enemy colors, like a cycle of Elemental Blasts. With the current color pie and way R&D does stuff, would it happen? Probably not. But hey, it's an idea.
Blue > Green
Green > Black
Red > Blue
White > Red
Black > White
Well, they did make Seedtime strictly to counteract a dominant blue spell (Fact or Fiction) so maybe this is the one to counter a "dominating" green spell/deck (Tooth and Nail/Eternal Witness/some deck that's heavily green-based).
Every block has hosers for something, be it card-specific or deck-type specific (i.e. Brutal Suppression vs. Rebels), so I wouldn't be too surprised if this does see print in one shape or form.
Secondly i would just like to point out to whoever said that birds would be out of type 2 in about 3 years that it will most likely be printed in 10th edition and ravnica will still be lagal then.
Unless R&D changes their mind on the color pie, it will be unlikely that BOP will ever be reprinted in a core set. Green just doesn't get flyers without a hefty price, and the Core Set is not about exploring those exceptions. It's about the 'rules'
It would make sense to have such a card around since green is the absolute best (or at least more versatile) color in standard right now. That said, I don't think that it's a real card from sets to come. But then again, it's MaRo, and you can never predict what goes on in that evil, evil mind of his.
If they would make this, it would probably be in Ravinca. Otherwise, MUC instantly is the top deck to beat, because G/x and TnN will be having fits that Blue has such an unfair counterspell.
When Mirrodin rotates out, Green takes a huge hit, losing Beacon, Rude Awakening, Eternal Witness, Troll Asethic, and Tooth. Ravinca seems like the correct set to put it in.
Anyways, isn't it a little early to be speculating about Ravnica?
Of course not! This is prime speculating season. It's that time when we know the name and a few scraps of other information, and from what we know people gradually leap to increasingly larger conclusions until we have a picture of a multicoloured block with no basic lands and where every card relates to a specific guild. Then we get our first real piece of information and everyone forgets this imaginary block.
Green doesn't need to be hosed, it's just one of the most dominate decks, kinda of like U/W used to be. Were would u get an Idea's like that. Now instead of playing everyother game against affinity, it goes Mono Green, B/G Deathcould, G/U Something... no green isn't out of control, I am happy about the big boost in power that green has gotten as of lately, but, I do think wizards went a little overboard. Educate in SoK, it is a good possibility.:halo:

It will have minor impact on standard.
