Birds of Paradise is part of the history and world of Magic: there has always been Birds of Paradise.
With them removing it from 9E, not doing an actual reprint in Ravnica would be near suicide, not to mention, Birds would lose its current price tag, which would anger the many players that use it.
Theres no way they would print a functionally identical card with a different name as birds. R&D has already said that they think having both birds and llanowar elves in the same enviornment is too much 1 mana acceleration for green. Having elves, birds, and another birds would be completely insane.

(By the way, we still believe that the Core Set only has room for one green creature that taps for mana and only costs :symg:. Having two in the Core Set means Standard would always have a lot of very efficient green mana acceleration, and there would be no room left for us to do any more really good mana critters in expert-level sets. In addition to this, we think Elves are a much more iconic part of green than Birds are, so (please don't panic until you finish this paragraph) we're not going to put Birds of Paradise into Ninth. HOWEVER … you showed us with your vote last time how much you love your Birds, so we promise that we will reprint them in "Control," the first set in the block after the Kamigawa block. "Control" comes out about two months after Ninth.)
I do believe I remember him saying that they were going to reprint THE bop in rav. The thing is that i do not no why your judge friend would have any such information about whether or not they would. I dont see how he could get information like this and it only gets harder to believe when it directly contradicts an article that was posted on the OFFICIAL magic site. I am going to have to say your friend is lying or misinformed, either way I am not going to believe this until someone can confirm this.

As stated before, it would mean 8 Birds in other formats, which I doubt is gonna happen, nor do I think they would make a new version of Utopia Tree...
