So here's what I decided to do at my store. We try hard to be a 'white hat' store, so I wanted to give players several options to get hteir hands on it that don't involve massive payola.
First, we're raffling two of them away. $1 a ticket, two different jars. One lucky entrant from each jar walks away with one.
Second, the opportunity to win one outright or win the ability to buy one at MSRP will be available through select tournaments throughout the month, including (but not limited to) FNM's.
Finally, the "market option" is a fun one that's gotten a lot of attention. We stuck a giant whiteboard on the wall, divided into four. In each quarter is a price, which started at $250. A note on the whiteboard explains that these preorder prices will drop by $5 each day until they are sold. This "games the gamer," playing in the tension between locking it in and paying less for it. It will be interesting to see at what price they go.:)
Even though the store I bought mine at sold them at msrp, that last idea is awesome haha!

I want to thank you for being creative, fun, and not just trying to gouge people to make the most money you can. I have a store in my area that is doing some prize giveaways at tournaments, but all the others are going to throw theirs up as expensive as they can. (ABU, looking at you).
My LGS owner has sold all of his for $45, although we tried to get him to go to $50 for the store he wouldn't have it. Really nice guy.

here's to hoping our stores around here do something like the examples above from Bookkeeper and Ertai's Lament but in WV it seems to be all about the money.
Ours ran a deal where if you bought any combination of 4 boxes of M14 and DGM you got a free FTV20. I got 3 M14 and 1 DGM...pulled a Ral and a Voice in the one DGM box. Recouped a lot of the cost of the boxes already, meaning the FTV will just be gravy for me.
20 cards for 40 dollars. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Seems like it's a lot more lucrative to reprint cards and steal value out of the secondary market, than it is to design good sets to sell new booster packs.

I think elf might be musing about how much more money wizards makes off of these over booster packs. They could easily steal some thunder from the secondary market. He's right.
Here's hoping they do and wondering why they don't.

Are you the same guy that runs the Magic website Ertai's Lament? the one that does a VS article for each of the premade decks? Cool!
On topic: Our LGS is doing a raffle per store you get a ticket by either
Buying 6 m14 packs = 1 ticket
Buying a m14 Box = 4 tickets
going to all 5 FNM for the month of august = 1 ticket
Then if you win you get a "Right to buy" the product.
Does anyone have any thoughts on how much the jace will sell for? I mean cause if I do get it, I definitely won't keep the jace, can't stand the card.
After the general hype of FTV calms down post-release, the cards settle down on or about the same price as the regular, non-foil version from whatever set the card was printed. You can find FTV Mox Diamonds for the same price as Stronghold Mox Diamonds, Maze of Iths etc etc.

One and the same! The site's on temporary haitus right now, just bought our LGS on 01 July and have been engrossed in getting it up to speed, but EL will be back and soon. Glad you enjoy!
I'm dying to see some additional spoilers. I don't recall for past FtV's what the spoiler season was like...anyone else have an idea?
They usually DON'T have a spoiler season. It's one big arcana with the full list about a week before release. But this time we could see something different, as it's 20 cards rather than 15.

Also, being the 20th Anniversary, there is a chance of there being some interesting R&D tales to go with the cards
But you are right, there is typically no spoiler season to accompany this.
If we see anything I would expect it to be in Gavin Verhey's column since he was one of the two designers on this product.
LGS in my place, they will give a free ftv:twenty to who buy six box m14
And people who purchase m14 over$ 65 will have a chance of lucky draw. Prize included Five ftv: twenty

Reality is only what man allows it to be. Few shape it so that many may accept it.
Yup.
As cool as it would be to win four Jaces, plus stuff that just sounds awful.

because every single one of them will sell with zero effort put into the design process.
however yes, its far more lucrative for the stores than it ever will be for wotc.
Here's hoping they do and wondering why they don't.
