So I think we're getting our first non-creature tokens, so to speak.
Questions in regards to them:
1) Can I (we) call them "tokens" or is that a misnomer?
2) Can they be stolen?
3) Can they be copied?
4) Can they be destroyed/exiled?
5) Can they be animated?
5) Can they be traded/donated?
6) Can they trigger ETB affects for artifacts?
7) When they are used, will they trigger affects for when an artifact goes to the graveyard?
8) Can an affect (if there are or will be in the future) double the amount of clues as they enter the battlefield?
OK, that's enough questions. I'm sure these questions and even more will come up as time passes.
It's not the first non-creature token, you know. We already had Gild and Goblin Kaboomist
So the answers are:
1) Yes.
2) Yes.
3) Yes, but not by the populate ability since that specifically affects only creature tokens.
4) Yes.
5) Yes, but if you use something that uses CMC as basis for P/T, they will be 0/0.
5) Yes.
6) Yes.
7) Yes.
8) Possibly.
0) They aren't the first noncreature tokens. Besides the cards Marek14 listed, we have King Macar, the Gold-Cursed's Gold tokens and Nahiri, the Lithomancer's equipment token, and the multiple ways of making token copies of noncreatures (built-in on Imperial Mask for example).
1) The reminder text for Investigate (Expose Evil) call them tokens, so they are tokens.
2-6) A token is defined as a permanent that is not a card. That's the only difference. Like any other permanent, they can change control, be copied, destroyed, and exiled. They are artifacts entering the battlefield when created.
7) When a token goes to the graveyard, it actually leaves the battlefield and enters the graveyard like any other permanent. It is only after entering the graveyard (or any non-battlefield zone like hand or exile) that the token ceases to exist. They trigger such abilities, yes.
8) Doubling Season doubles the number of Clues you put on the battlefield with an Investigate effect.
Well, well, well, lol.. was tired when I made the post last night. Looks like there have been others before. Lots of interactions can occur. Thanks all for the heads up.
