Could see play in a Kefnet the Mindful / New Perspectives deck? Nice to drop a creature and have hand size 2-greater than you had before casting the creature.
A 1w evasive creature that found 3 copies of itself and also in a format with a brainstorm and suffle effects vs a grey ogre that finds 1 copy of itself.
There were creatures like squadron hawks before, the ability isnt new.
People love to hype stuff no matter what in the Magic community, its odd.

Maybe it said 1 when it was first spoiled, regardless the effect has been seen before, Squadron Hawks was great due to jace and fetches/shuffle effects plus the squadron hawks had the swords and were evasive.

It's almost as odd as people crapping on stuff as a knee-jerk reaction, even so much so that they clearly let on that they crapped on the card before they even properly read what it does, and still defend their knee-jerk reaction afterwards.
I, for one, like instinctive positivity more than instinctive negativity. You obviously differ.

Yeah, Howling Wolf, Skyshroud Sentinel and Nesting Wurm saw a ton of play?
So again explain how this seems vaguely playable, besides it shares a mechanic with another card that was good?

Maybe it said one when it was first spoiled? What does that even mean? They spoiled it, and then retroactively changed it? I'm confused.
Also, I'm not arguing with you here. The effect has indeed been seen before, between Squadron Hawk and the Nesting Wurm cards from Nemesis. I don't think it's great, but I do think there could be some potential in an Oketra's Monument deck.

There's already examples of where this card could find home in this thread, maybe go take a look instead of being obnoxious. Basically any time you have a deck that can convert raw card quantity in some way, Legion Conquistador >> Mulldrifter, a card we all know is plenty powerful in standard environment. CMC of 3 is also still in the realm of cheap to cast so the opportunity cost of playing the card is relatively low compared to your counter examples of Howling Wolf or Nesting Wurm
Skyshroud Sentinel is actually decent (I would be still interested in LC if it was 1/1 instead of 2/2). As for why it didn't see play during its time in standard, who knows? Could be anything from never getting discovered to lack of information flow (year 2000 is basically bronze age as far that is concerned) to unplayability of enemy color pairs pre-Apocalypse (sentinel is G and U has looting, which is the easiest way to abuse card quantity). In any case dredging up some 18-year-old cards is pointless as hell when trying to argue a point, the game itself is completely different now than what is was back then.
It didn't see play in Standard because 3 mana 1/1 was terrible in that format. You're talking about a format that was defined by Rebels, Saproling Burst, Blinding Angel and Replenish. Replenish. There was no way to leverage the hand-size increase or turn a 1/1 into a consistently relevant body. Even beyond that, there was no time to durdle around in what was, effectively, a 4-5 turn format. It wasn't 'lack of information flow' or failing to be discovered that kept Sentinel from being played. It was the fact that it was bad and those of us playing knew it.
As to Legion Conquistador, I think its probably an anthem-effect away from making it. Turn all those bodies into 3/3 or 4/4 beaters for 3 mana and suddenly you have a string of legitimate threats.

Thoughts on the new Squadron Hawk? A little pricier... A littler beefier... A little tied-to-the-ground.

Copies can be used to pay for cards with alternate exile from hand cost like Sunscour.
