I didn't see a post about this card yet, and I wanted to get peoples opinion about this card. From what some of the pro players are saying, this card is straight up awesome!
Card Type: Creature
Creature Type: Dragon
Power/Toughness: 4/4
Casting Cost: 3RR
Card Text: Flying, haste
You may exert Glorybringer as it attacks. When you do, it deals 4 damage to target non-Dragon creature an opponent controls.
Pros:
It's an Anti-Midrange Card
Decent body (4/4)
Flying and Haste
Kills most of the creatures in Standard
Straight up destroys Gideon, Ally of Zendikar
Most times it's a 2 for 1
Pretty cool art...
Cons: Archangel Avacyn Heart of Kiran (Can Kill the creature that crewed Heart, and trade with it)
It will stay tapped for a turn do to exert
I'll say that it's certainly better than a lot of the recently printed Dragons. The haste really makes it useful, especially when taking the Exert into perspective. 4/4 and 5cmc are also respectable stats.
I think it has a chance to see play but I'm not sure in what kind of build just yet. I'm hoping RG monsters/ramp becomes a thing again.
The set artwork for it is awesome btw; I hadn't seen that it was the same Artwork they showed off awhile back.
Flametongue Kavu was a card that shaped an entire format - this is about as close as Standard is going to get to that, I think.
That being said, the difference between 4 mana and 5 mana CMC is a huge difference even if you do get flying + haste for your extra mana. Repeatable "free" removal is always good but how useful this is will be determined by what its primary opposition will be both in the air for combat and what it has to shoot.
Red gets a threat and outright murders most creatures and planeswalkers on turn 5. It's non-legendary, so back to back is pretty strong, and survives -3/-3.
Saheeli can create copies for obscene amounts as of value. Chandra creates a sizable road block and can ramp so you don't need a 5th land drop to play it. It's very strong imo and I do t really see it being much of a sleeper card. It has immediate impact as a slightly overpriced removal with tons of upside if they can't kill it.
I'll probably run 2 in my 4c saheeli and maybe a 3rd in the side. An open board with saheeli out that can copy one is 16 damage out of no where.
Feels like a good creature.
Good generally isn't quite good enough.
That being said, if we get some cheap creatures that untap as an ETB or mana use effect this dragon gets much better. If the loss of tempo isn't a factor, doesn't it become a win more card? It's effect doesn't hit vehicles, which is a factor vs the top deck in Standard right now.
Does it fit in Mardu vehicles? Maybe a mirror shenanigan?
I do think the Saheeli blinking effect could be a thing, but isn't going infinite just better? What slot would it take because it doesn't draw you cards and Saheeli combo relies heavily on draw.
We will see... don't get me wrong, I think it's a great beatstick, but with today's standard you can't just be great, you have to be the best of the best to fit in... or at least stop the combo from going off.
It feels like it joins the (very small) group of straight up constructed playable red dragons alongside Stormbreath, Thunderbreak Regent and Thundermaw Hellkite.
It is not hard to imagine this giving 3 for 1 value by hastily attacking and killing a planeswalker, exerting and killing a creature and then forcing your opponent to use a removal spell to kill it (or suffer it being able to attack and exert again after 1 turns cooldown time).
notably, Threaten effects currently in Standard like Hijack, Kari Zev's Expertise and Wrangle untaps a creature, including exerted creatures. so maybe such cards can go dual duty with an Exert deck - steal opposing creatures or untap your exerted creatures.
I've been out of the loop for a while, but I just played Amonkhet prerelease and any time I had a Glorybringer on the field I basically owned the field. It's not Thundermaw...but it's not far off either, and being able to nuke most blockers with the exert is very powerful.

Untap- Blessed Alliance, Tenacity, Retreat to Coralhelm, Aim High, Ornamental Courage
Vigilance- Arlinn Kord (this could be a big one, as I predict green and red will both have good amounts of exert and is repeatable), Nature's Way, Sandstone Bridge
So not a lot so far, but Amonkhet probably has a couple cards for this that are aimed at constructed.

That being said, grasp of darkness and ishkanah, grafwidow get a lot more useful for Bx decks I think.

And that is with any untap or vigilance tricks.
