How would you guys evaluate Ovalchase Dragster vs Fleetwheel Cruiser? I'm thinking about a R/B aggro vehicle deck and can't decide between the two for the third slot (after Smuggler's Copter and Cultivator's Caravan). I don't really see room for two 4 cmc vehicles. Ovalchase gives you the better power and a lower crew requirement, but Fleetwheel has better toughness and can attack on the turn it's cast without crewing. I'm leaning towards Fleetwheel but wanted some opinions.
I'd take Fleetwheel Cruiser. Just for the additional 2 toughness. That Smuggler is absolutely awesome though.
& it seems very dangerous to run that many Vehicles. You would need 1 creature to crew 1 vehicle. So you can't afford to have less creatures than Vehicles, although your tinies are easy victims to removal. To mitigate that high risk, I would just play less Vehicles. 4 Smugglers seem OK & realistic to constantly crew. Everything else you will have to test.
Furthermore I feel a Boros Deck would fit better, especially with the Boris legend & white quality creatures & Gideon.
Also, I think you should put less vehicles, Fleetwheel Cruiser and Smuggler's Copter are enough (maybe 1-2 Sky Skiff as well) turn 3 you want to attack using the copter, so a 1 drop turn 3 to crew him is better, always use the guy that can not attack to crew.
Pia Nalaar (as said above) is really a great option to turn 3 since it can crew 2 vehicles.
White may be a better color to go with red in a vehicle deck, but it would be more to a long race (the man land and the dwarf legend), but I like BR because it's more agro and, if anything, murderbolt is amazing
I somehow find it tragic when an attacking Traveling Philosopher gets blocked by another Traveling Philosopher, which normally results in two dead philosophers. Shouldn't they just sit aside and start discussing?
"This is really exciting, so much to find out about, so much to look forward to, I'm quite dizzy with anticipation . . . Or is it the wind? There really is a lot of that now, isn't there? And wow! Hey! What's this thing suddenly coming toward me very fast? Very, very fast. So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide-sounding name like . . . ow . . . ound . . . round . . . ground! That's it! That's a good name- ground! I wonder if it will be friends with me? Hello Ground!"
Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the Sprouting Phytohydra as it fell was Oh no, not again.
So far in my playtesting on Untap I'm noticing that Needle Spires always throws off my tempo. I think I'll replace them with basics. Otherwise the deck is performing quite well.
If your'e running Smuggler's Copter and you should be, then consider staying in RB as this would allow for more regular abuse of it - Alms of the Vein and Fiery Temper are still great cards. In which case you could keep your creature package where it had been (perhaps adding Pariahs or Twins or another madness vampire of your choice for the times you don't have a Gorger) trim the other vehicles...
I like where this deck is heading. 8 4-drops seems heavy for a 22 land deck. Hopefully, they release a good Dwarf R or W 2-drop and you can replace the planeswalkers.
Unless you are going all in on a vehicle strategy with cards like Depala and Start your Engines I feel like 4-8 vehicles is the sweet spot for an aggro deck. Any more an the risk of being flooded with Vehicles you can't crew becomes too large.
Of the currently revealed vehicles the standout is Smuggler's Copter cheap evasive easy to crew and provides card selection. 4 Copter feels like the core of any vehicle using deck, Fleetwheel Cruiser with it's 1 time ability to crew itself is a good 2nd option and Skysovereign makes a potential good top of the curve singleton.
Do you guys think Metalwork Colossus has a place in this deck? Get just one copter and one cruiser on the battlefield and his cost drops to 5. Another copter and he's 3. In my playtesting I've been able to get 2-3 vehicles on the board pretty consistently.
