With the printing of Sigarda's Aid and Open the Armory along with the (seemingly) fact that Kaladesh will be artifact heavy, do you folks think we may see a competitive equipment based deck? And possibly some strong equipment?
It could be all fluff and positioned for other formats. Sigarda's Aid made me rebuild Kemba, Kha Regent for EDH. Oddly I have both cards in the OP foil in the deck. Does this make me a filfthy pimpster?
We won't see anything broken in Kaladesh. So no, equipment decks won't be making a return. And by broken I mean Swords cycle, Greaves/Boots. Loxodon Warhammer pushes the envelope slightly too far.
I was upset that Sword of the Animist was Legendary. It triggers landfall for you every turn. But it saw nearly no play in decks I saw reported. Just too slaw and too 'unwinning' of a card.

Wanted -Zombie Foils and older expensive Zombie stuff. High Priority- Beta Z Master/ Int. Collector's Edition.
My problem with Sigarda's aid is to want to play it turn one but you also don't want to draw another one as it is redundant. I wish it had something like "Equipped creatures you control get +1/+1 instead of the auras part or something so it wouldn't be bad in multiples.
I have an interesting equipment interaction. goldnight castigator, stitcher's graft, and harmless offering. you equip the graft on the castigator and swing for 7. 2nd main phase harmless offering the castigator to your opponent. on their turn they wont be able to untap the castigator because of the graft's untap clause. it comes back to your turn and you unload on them, but hold up 2 mana, so after the damage is dealt you unequip the castigator because you still control the equipment, and the graft kills the castigator......that is if they even survived your attack to begin with, but it's an insurance policy so they don't ever get to use the goldnight castigator but suffer it's drawback. if you have sigarda's aid out, you can even flash in the graft during your attack with the castigator for the full surprise if you like. it's a neat little combo, extremely janky, but I had to find a fun and unusual way to play harmless offering that isn't just give them a Pact.
Hey, I built a R/W standard deck with equipment as the base. Sigarda's aid, fast humans (expedition envoy, Thalia, Thalias lieutenant, hanwar garrison) then focus on skaters plate. Flashing in a skaters plate on an unblocked anything is brutal. Throw in an Avacyn and a gisela, and I haven't lost yet. And it's very fun to play.
There's definitely some potential here and I myself considered stocking up on some captain's claws and stone haven outfitters (they're dirt cheap now anyway). Judging from what we have now, red seems to be the best color to be paired up with white. He might see absolutely zero play at the moment, but I think weapons trainer is no joke, effectively doubling the attack power on all tokens created by, say, captain's claws. Honestly, though, I don't think such a deck will ever be tier 1, wizards is simply too scared too print really good equipment nowadays.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
I put together a Kind of boros toolbox list featuring sigarda's aid, slayers late and lone rider and open the armory. The main problem I endountered in testing is the prevalence of removal and there being no way to give your creatures Hexproof. Sigarda's aid kind of makes your deck in instant speed boggle deck where you can use equipment at great value but if they board wipe or hit your creature with a murder or ruinous path. I thought maybe about building a Bant version with void grafter and Tierless tracker to refill? Can anyone else think of possible solutions to this problem?

Selfless Spirit? You still lose 2 turns to Reflector Mage though.

Selling some cards I don't want.
Generally less than tcg mid.
It's definitely a turn 1 play. Into whatever creatures you intend to equip, maybe some 2/2 first strikers, and then drop a sword or a Warhammer.
