If anyone attended the midnight Prerelease, how did yours go?
I only bring it up because mine was pretty insane. I went 4-0 playing a GBw delirium deck, and had a very epic moment. I had a few creatures on the board and 15 life. We had been stalling for a large portion of game because somehow neither of us could get a creature out (I was having land issues). I ended up beating on my opponent with Mournwillow and Sigardian Priest down to low life but not close enough to seal the deal just yet. My opponent seemed as if they were going to concede, then proceeded to drop an Emrakul. He tookk my turn, tapped me out and hit me for 13. I pretty much thought that was game for me until I top-decked Faith Unbroken, cast it on my Mournwillow and took out Emrakul and he scooped because of it.It was momentous.
As far as prize packs, I got nothing out of mine; but my brother and his friend got two packs each. My brother pulled a Tamiyo, Field Researcher and a foil Ulrich of the Krallenhorde out of the same pack, and his friend simultaneously opened a Foil Emrakul.
All in all it was insane. Did anyone else have a fun prerelease?
I went 2-1 (we only play 3 rounds) with a record of 2-0, 2-1, and 0-2 respectively while playing a surprisingly snazzy GW delirium deck. I have to say Desperate Sentry, Extrictaor of Sin, and Thalia's Lancers are absolute all-starts.
I came in late so I only had less than 20 minutes for deck construction but what I made almost always hit Delirium by turn 3.
My promo was Bruna, the Fading Light and let me tell you, she saved me multiple times. Especially during the last game of round two when I had no board staring down an enemy Lancers. Topdecked Bruna and cast her, giving me a flying 5/7 Vigilance and my own Lancers back from the grave. She won me games whenever I played her.
Unfortunately, no one at the shop pulled Gisela.

"Pop in, find a dragon, roast a dragon."

Opened an awful pool with no long colors, and almost no removal, scrapped together a very subpar G/W humans deck Pray Upon as the only removal spell. Felt like I could do nothing to interact all evening and went 2-3, where the wins where carried by Griff's Boon. I also had to mulligan 9 times (all due to 0 or 1 land hands, and I played 17 lands :/) during the course of 13 games, once to 4, which didn't really add to the experience.
Went 2-2 playing BW. Opened Liliana, the Last Hope and Archangel Avacyn. I was very happy with my pulls. Also opened Eldritch Evolution. In my prize pack, I opened Mirrorwing Dragon. Not amazing, but it was at least a mythic.
Reprints the one card that people point to when saying that art objectifies women.
Well done Wizards.
Liliana does not objectify women in any way at all. We have gotten to a point in our society that every single picture of a women must be objectifying a women in some negative way......blah blah blah.. That is not the case. (((Sarcasm)))Picture of a girl drinking a milk shake, must be sex related and putting women down, picture of girl sitting on a beach, picture of a girl driving a car, picture of a girl on the moon at a new space station.)))
You have a picture of an attractive strong power women who girls dress up as for anime conventions. What more do you want? The picture is fine, happy to see a reprint. Sick of of seeing people claim that everything in existence must be putting women down. Then all I have to do is replace the word "women" with anything else to get the same mentality; fish, cats, arabs, blacks, jews, men, environment, whites, chinese, old people, etc. It doesn't matter what word I put in. Stop sucking life out of everything man. That artwork of her is awesome. Stop putting stuff down man. Just stop. If the picture was really as negative as you claim she would totally nude, in a kitchen, making sandwiches and giving blow jobs. Her abilities would be horrible as well. +1 do nothing -2 do nothing -6 do nothing. Instead liliana of the veil is an amazing planeswalker comparable to jace, the mind sculpter with great art to appreciate.
My suggestion listen to some comedy radio for a while, pandora is free, youtube is free there is something out there for you. ***** go make fun of somebody. The whole world is so serious and campaigning for some cause, or someones rights, everything is a hate crime, racist, sexist. blah blah blah.
"O no mcdonalds must be slandering a hate crime against skinny people every time they make a big mac." hahaha jeeze You're just someone perpetuating another groups negative perspective that they've made you believe is correct. Look at the picture for a hour and tell me what's wrong with it? I don't see anything.
I have heard vague rumors of a moustache-dispensing vending machine in a distant laundromat, across the street from a tattoo parlor. However, this information is shaky, and time is of the essence.
I ended up going 3-0-1 at midnight playing a GB deck. My deck was composed of 17 basics, 17 commons, 2 rares, and 5 uncommons. The best cards in my deck were Voldaren Pariah and Accursed witch. Pariah is an absolutely absurd magic card in limited, especially when paired with my 2x it of the horrid swarm. Accursed Witch is somehow better than it was in SOI partially as a result of the format being naturally slower. Another reason Accursed Witch is better is that the cards that used to effectively answer Accursed Witch, like Bound by Moonsilver, are just actively bad cards in a format with emerge. I've never seen pacifism variants be so bad.
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.

Went 2-2 but had a lot of great fun competitive games. My first round only got one game in (I won!) because we had such a great battle. I basically survived like 10 turns at one life because he'd Duskwatched all his creatures out, and I managed to kill them off.
I'll be kicking myself for a long time over my last round though. Game 1, I'm down to about 6 life, and we have a board stalemate. I've had a Subjugator Angel in hand the whole game, and have just been waiting for the chance to do enough damage with one massive swing. Finally, I make the count, realizing I'm good for next turn, and go for it...
And halfway through counting the damage realize I'd forgotten to flash in the Pack Guardian during his turn, and ended up two damage short.
Its probably the dumbest play I've ever made in a game of magic, and it pretty much proved the difference between 3rd and 7th place. Although to be fair, I got trounced pretty bad in game 2 (although I think I kinda mentally gave up after totally screwing myself out of a win).
I went 3-1, tied in the first place, 5th in the tie breakers.
I was playing W/B, with some decent removal, a Sorin, an Always Watching enchantment, and some decent white creatures.
I lost the 3rd game because I forgot the opponent had the artifact that can be tapped for mana and deals 1 damage and instead of using a -2 or -3 ability of the Sorin, I used just a -1. Anyway I also had some luck on some of the other matches and it was fun to play nevertheless.
The pool didn't pay itself and I spent around some 20 more euros on gas so financially it was bad, not even the 4 booster prize gave me anything very pricy.
I went 4-1, came in second. Best I think I have ever done at a prerelease.
I had a pretty cool UR Tempo/Spells deck. Had a lot of fun playing it today. I had Goldnight Castigator, Mirrorwing Dragon and Niblis of Frost to take the air, while my creatures blocked on the ground and I bounced or tapped their creatures. Thermo-Alchemist can get in a lot of damage when you have two of them and the spells to keep your opponent stalled out.
The only round I lost was to a strong WR aggro deck. That game one went 2 drop, 3 drop, Voldaren Duelist. Even with my tempo cards, that start was just too quick.
MVP has to go to Fevered Visions, drew me so many cards today and so much damage to my opponents as well.
Just came back, 3-1. All of my rares were in white, blue, or colorless: Sanctifier of Souls, Always Watching, Wharf Infiltrator, Identity Thief, Elder Deep-Fiend, Engulf the Shore, Tamiyo's Journal. The Deep-Fiend was very good, there were two times I was able to flash it in on the turn 4 upkeep to basically time walk the opponent. Identity Thief was a little weird but I had two people misplay thinking that it could only copy the opponent's creatures, so I was able to save a guy out from under an Aura once and another time they tapped down my Stitched Mangler instead of the Thief, so I just turned into a Mangler and got to reset the ETB ability. Engulf the Shore is weird in limited but I used it a couple of times to clear aggressive fields and reset some of my ETB guys. I think Wharf Infiltrator only ever connected once when I didn't have a creature to discard. Sanctifier of Souls was incredibly good, a game-changing top deck in one case since it allowed me to block flying and push through with a big guy.
Also had Nebelgast Herald and Drownyard Behemoth for flash tricks that worked very well and two Sigardian Priests, which were ok but there were many times I wished they could hit humans. Subjugator Angel is of course quite good at ending stalemates and Extricator of Sin was pretty interesting the one time I was able to get it out and transformed. I had the black meld pair in my pool but nothing else too exciting in black or red.
Out of commons I saw on the other side, I was pretty impressed with the 3/2 vigilance green guy and the white bear that pumps +1/+1 on the turn it enters.
I had a wonderful time. Acquired all the cards I needed for my EDH decks except Oath of Lilliana and Tamiyo. I knew Tammy would be too expensive at the pre-release so I'll just have to wait. I don't have a deck for her yet anyway since I had hoped she would be Mono-Blue and I don't play Bant, so I can be patient.
Oath of Lilliana though. Grrr. I just needed one but it was very popular, everyone was playing it.
I went 4-0 with a UB deck that I didn't even think was going to be that great. Had 3 big "emerge" fatties that turned out to do some good work. I had a number of zombies matter cards, but only like 5 zombies and it still worked out pretty well. Couldn't get anyone to trade me their Eldritch Evolutions even though they said they didn't want them at all and I was offering shock lands or other more valuable staple stuff, lol. I got 1 bedlam reveler and 1 collective brutality out of my prize packs, otherwise most cards were bad
My pool had Nahiri's Wrath and the card was INSANE, blew my opponents whole board of 4 creatures by discarding 4 cards and hitting each of his creatures for 10 and leaving him in topdeck more.
The card was insane in all the games I played it, even despite its card disadvantage. The effect was just too powerful to recover.
Got Emrakul on prize packs and an Elder Deep-Fiend
So I played a prerelease today that had 34 people. Every person in the top 8 had a deck featuring white. I think it's time for people to stop pretending white hasn't been pushed. Their removal was fine, in fact far more powerful than the red decks options despite red having more options in that category. I played a red blue deck that was even better than the one I had at SOI prerelease, and went 1-3 today. I finished in first place in the SOI prerelease that had nearly the same turn out (31 people) all 3 losses today to Wx decks
I had spirits tribal for midnight. It was a lot of fun, but I had x2 Fleeting Memories, and absolutely no clue tokens.
2-1. Could have split but, eh, I didn't come there to play two rounds of Magic. Lost awfully bad.
Then all day today I was cosplaying while playing. I went, 2-2, 1-2 in 2hg withmy partner. And 2-2 again.
Two more events to go. I'm not done with this sealed deck yet, but I have to say, it is awfully hard to be tribal anything. And when you do get a tribal spell or effect, you get no critters fo rit.

Wanted -Zombie Foils and older expensive Zombie stuff. High Priority- Beta Z Master/ Int. Collector's Edition.
I did 2 yesterday and opened quite well value-wise, but I got wrecked by 4 different red decks. I went 0-2 in both events before dropping. The removal I was facing was pretty relentless. It didn't help that I got flooded 8 games in a row, but even if I hadn't, I didn't have the cards to hang with all the burn that was floating around. Anyway, I've got 2 more events today, and hopefully I can have some better luck/cards to work with.
The Mirrorwing Dragon was my promo card, so I forced red into my deck even though I didn't have many good red cards to go with it. I had a lot of white humans though and good equips to go with them so I made a boros build. Slayer's Plate was an all-star. Turns any creature into a beast. Kill my creature? I'll equip the token I got and continue beating face. I went 3-2 overall. Losses were primarily due to land issues (flooding or color screw). Pretty fun time overall, even with stupid eldrazi ruining my favorite plane.
Awesome. I basically had a rare singleton copy of the Spirit deck going around. Coupled with great common spirits, some bounce and surprisingly effective removal, I ran to 5-0 with no problem. The best, most focused pool I have ever opened. If people hadn't watched me open my pool, I would have been accused of adding cards to my pool. Great day for me. The spirits are going to be so fun when they come together.
2-2-1
I played mardu control with 2 fiery temper, 2 blessed alliance, 2 alchemist's greeting and 2 boon of emrakul. However I only had 1 discard outlet for the madness cards and my creature package was lackluster at best. Also I picked up absolutely no card draw or mana fixing.
Missed the pre-release due to catching the stomach flu from my brother. But at least I get to hear the good from everyone else. I suppose I can always buy a prerelease kit and do a late draft.

My other friend and I had 1 absurd deck and 1 pretty decent deck and we rolled people.
I played UW Fliers with 6 2-cmc 2/1 fliers (1 Rattlechains, 1 Selfless Spirit), Thalia, Avacyn, Geralf's Masterpiece, 2 Wretched Gryff, 1 Declaration in Stone, and some other nonsense like Nebelghast Herald.
Our deck was so dandy I decided to not use my promo Bruna - I kept my curve as low as possible, and I was honestly running low on space.
He played RB with LOTS of removal (notably 2 Oath of Liliana and 1 Collective Brutality) and Thermo-Alchemist.
Thermo-Alchemist won (or did an absurd amount of damage) each game.
Won two matches out of three, although funnily enough I don't remember which card was my MVP Definitely not my Gisela though; she never showed up often enough to make impact. However, perhaps Selfless Spirit could be considered my MVP; that mass-indestructible was lovely. Aside from that, From Under The Floorboard was pretty helpful. The funniest moment probably was that I had a Hanweir Militia Captain, 3 zombies from the Floorboard, and Liliana's Elite with no dead creatures, and lastly Skeleton Key. So my Westvale Cult Leader started off a 5/5, had the key, and still managed to skulk in because my opponent had that 6/6 turtle that cannot attack unless he cast a noncreature I repeat, a 5/5 creature Skulking And the Cult Leader went on to become a bloody 13/13 behemoth while I beat the game thanks to a Skulking Liliana's Elite
Skulk in general looks pretty terrifying in this limited.... Fogwalker, was it, the 1/3 skulk for 2 mana? It managed to keep my opponent alive long enough while I desperately tried to get my flier to get past it. That card is insane in limited.
I found the prerelease very underwhelming. I went 1-3 in both that I attended. All I got was red and blue rares, and very little removal in other colors. I splashed white the second prerelease because I got Nahiri, but she literally did all the work for me in the wins I had (four wins, and 4 losses, but 1-3 record because I dropped the last round). This is the first prerelease weekend I have ever played where I got literally zero prize support, so maybe it's just me, but I think this set sucks in limited. When I can get a Geralf's Masterpiece out on turn 4 in three different games, it's pretty tough to see it get O-ringed on their next turn each time it happened. White is boring, but man is it powerful. cheap easy creatures, tap down creatures, and pacifism/O-ring effects makes them pretty much unstoppable, and that was just in limited. The only people I saw winning in blue had Elder Deep-Fiend. I saw people play nearly every red rare in the set, but kept going 1-1 at best or 0-2 before round 3. I should be excited for a new set, but for the first time ever, I actually just can't wait for the next one, Kaladesh.
