Permeating massG
Creature - spirit, 1/3
Whenever Permeating Mass deals combat Damage to a creature, that creature becomes a copy of Permeating Mass
What do you think about this... thing? Tempts me to try to build a deck with it, just because how weird it is. Too bad it is just combat damage, otherwise it could be hilarious with fights...
it's one of the coolest dudes ever, no question about it...
but if you look closely, that ability is mainly just bad deathtouch.
It gets around indestructible and death triggers though. So in the end, I guess it is "just" a decent situational utility creature. Turning everything into its copies (and then maybe cast a Declaration in Stone) no doubt sounds cool but it would be kinda hard to pull off...
How does this card even work? The copy will also have the copy-causing ability. Can those turn other cards into copies of the mass? Or do the rules break down and cause copies of whatever the card is printed to be made? Judge plz halp.

Yes those copies will turn other creatures into copies. all will be 1/3 with the ability to turn other creatures into copies as well. equipment, enchantments and counters will stay on however

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it put an evasive creature in its deck over a narrow hate card.

If a card isn't worth your opponent removing, it's not worth putting in your deck.

Yeah its worse than a 1/3 deathtouch, and yeah a 1/3 deathtouch for 1 would be strong enough for standard. As it is, its a longshot but some anti-aggro green deck could use it as an effective wall for seriously dampening early aggro. If the enemy has 3x zombie tokens, a wall would let in 4 damage per turn. This would let in 4 damage, then 3 damage, then 2 damage per turn. Not exactly impressive. If anything, the card would have been a bunch better with defender
At any rate, its still way better at dampening aggro building up threats than wall of wood since it can soften their early threats and negate a non-evasive finisher, but thats not enough to write home about
712.5b The controller of another player can't make choices or decisions for that player that aren't called for by the rules or by any objects. The controller also can't make any choices or decisions for the player that would be called for by the tournament rules.
Example: The player who's being controlled still chooses whether he or she leaves to visit the restroom, trades a card to someone else, agrees to an intentional draw, or calls a judge about an error or infraction.
Honestly, this may seem dumb, but the first place I thought of this for was Commander. Something about turning your opponents Battlecruiser's into pipsqueaks sounds hilarious. Not to mention that it propagates around the board as well is awesome.
It does put things into Bolt range too. Not sure what that's worth but something to remember. Maybe some kind of Modern Temur control deck wants that?

The following link is an invitation to join Pucatrade (card trading service though similar to TCGPLayer). If you follow the link then it awards me with tokens to exchange for actual cards. Thanks! https://pucatrade.com/invite/gift/86097
This guy seems to really like first strike. Although there aren't any good first strike enablers in standard right now there's some good stuff in modern.
No-Dachi gives +2 power and first strike for 5 which is costly but it curves out well and it basically gives you a 3/3 first strike death touch.
Peregrine Mask is cheap, for 1 to cast and 2 to equip it gives defender flying and first strike, making it a beast of a blocker.
Sword of Vengeance does what No-Dachi does but ads vigilance which is nice since it will kill anything that blocks it.
Dragon Grip gives surprise death touch with ferocious.
Daybreak Coronet seems crazy good with it in an aura based build, maybe with ethereal armor and hyena/spider umbra, vigilance first strike life link death touch 4/6.
I don't know if any of this is good enough for competitive play but I'll be definitely trying it out.
I was trying to come up with interesting combos for this thing, and here's the thing about copy effects. Because they apply in the very first layer, they won't get any power boosts or abilities granted to the Permeating Mass, which makes the combo space a little limited. The only things that get copied are the printed text and any other copy effects that were applied to the mass.
Note that second part. And note that imperfect copying, like Sakashima the Impostor, is still a copy effect and fully applied in layer 1.
So, if something becomes a copy of Permeating Mass "except...", the "except..." will apply to all creatures its ability affects. For example, an Evil Twin of Permeating Mass will make all the creatures it infects have the ability to kill each other. Lazav, Dimir Mastermind copying Permeating Mass will turn creatures he damages into legendary Lazavs with hexproof and his copy ability, etc.
A Progenitor Mimic copying Permeating Mass (a Progenitor Mass, if you will) will make Progenitor Mass tokens every turn. Additionally, any nontoken creature it damages will also become a Progenitor Mass and make tokens every turn. And, importantly, the token copies of Progenitor Mass *also* have the token generation ability (it just does nothing for them), and can spread it to a nontoken creature who will then start pumping out more tokens. Until a player sweeps the board, every nontoken creature can become another replicating mass.
ive been brewing alot with this card in modern and here is my list
(i tried 100 times to make a deck with the options the site offers but i just suck or im doing something wrong so dont mention it
plz)
creatures:
4x permeating mass the idea of the whole deck
4x elvish visionary a draw a card with feets that can become a permeating mass
4x deadly recluse keeps tarmo at bay and any flyers in case you dont draw gravity well
4x kitchen finks gain 2 life and can die and come back (works like a charm with brave the sands)
enchentment:
4x brave the sands (you want 4 because the effects stacks)
2x gravity well this might go in the sideboard because its useless sometimes and others its a must....
2x archetype of courage gives permeating mass first strike, whats up wurmcoil engine
planeswalker:
4x nissa, voice of zendikar her -2 is our main wincon and she vomits 0/1 who can becomes permeating mass
other spells:
4x survival cache makes you draw the cards you need and gain some life in the process, rebound
4x pulse of murasa gives you back your permeating mass or any land and gain 6 life
4x path to exile because modern
lands:
3-4x gavony township our second wincon since the whole field is full of permeating mass
1-2x dryad arbor a nice card to get with pulse of murasa
any others lands that gives white or green
i wont put my sideboard because every meta is different but you should at least include a couple of mark of asylum
i never won against jund, affinity and tron but i had a winning chance against any other deck.
thats about it, the games are long and funny as hell when you can contain your opponents, any advice or must include cards that i didnt see would be welcome.

True... however, a 1-mana 1/3 deathtouch would be really good.

All shall be permeated!

How about this?
You have this guy gum up the ground and all of your blue spirits fly over it.
Or maybe Bant with Tamiyo and the two or three good White Spirits. (Bygone Bishop and that new one that can sac to make your creatures indestructible)
The alternative, of course, would be Superfriends of some kind. This makes a perfect blocker in such a deck.
Finally, this looks very interesting in Edric (either) decks.
It does put things into Bolt range too. Not sure what that's worth but something to remember. Maybe some kind of Modern Temur control deck wants that?

i used to run eternal witness over pulse of murasa but it being an instant and the gain 6 life isnt irrelevant.
