No, as sacrificing the creature is part of the cost of casting for the emerge cost. By the time the opponent could respond the creature is no longer there.
The whole set seems bent on creating normally bad 2 for 1s. The emerge mechanic, the meld mechanic, both ways that can result in a 2 for 1 if your opponent has a well timed removal spell.
My thoughts exactly. It seems like you are just, more often than not, opening yourself up for a 2 for 1. "Oh look at how cool this is, I got my creatures to meld into this one cooler and stronger creature...oh...you killed it? Well then, that sucks." <----I expect a great many of those moments happening in limited formats in the near future.
Just came back from the pre-release. With the exception of the Common Black emerge card, these cards are absolutely bonkers in limited. Every player who went 3-0 at my prerelease was playing Emerge cards, and they were usually the strongest and swingest effects we had access to. Basically every single emerge creature gets you a cards worth of value when you cast it, totally neutralizing the cost of sacrificing the creature. They are also all great at extending the game to the point where you can naturally cast them, and at that point, it's quite difficult to lose. They essentially turn off all of your opponents enchantment based pseudo-removal. Bound by moonsilver was one of the best cards in Triple SOI, but if your opponent has Emerge cards, your bound by moonsilver just doesn't do anything. The thing that really puts these cards over the top is their synergy with each other. Casting one of them is great, but chaining them can be even greater. Because, for the most part, all the Emerge cards have huge mostly interchangeable bodies, you effectively get to play the cards for their cast triggers at very low cost. Given you have an emerge creature on the battlefield Lashweed Lurker is basically a Set Adrift that costs GU and It of the horrid Swarm is effectively Dragon fodder at a cost of G. This is insane value on top of creatures that are good anyway.
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.

That's because:
Cost reduction mechanics

See a pattern? You can't start pushing cost reduction mechanics. Because the moment they're good (don't even have to be great) they cause problems.
