Couldn't have given it Hexproof, Wizards? Sweet. Now my World-Ending Extraplanar Titan can die to Bone Splinters.
If I cast this and my opponent reveals Bone Splinters out of his hand in my extra turn, I will be laughing like a madman. Except I'm not the one that will get the short end of the stick. "Yeah, nice card you got there. Why don't you go ahead and just -3 yourself?"
It can be casted for only 7-8 mana, 5-6 different types is pretty easy to achieve

712.5b The controller of another player can't make choices or decisions for that player that aren't called for by the rules or by any objects. The controller also can't make any choices or decisions for the player that would be called for by the tournament rules.
Example: The player who's being controlled still chooses whether he or she leaves to visit the restroom, trades a card to someone else, agrees to an intentional draw, or calls a judge about an error or infraction.
this is a great follow up to the original. this card is ridiculous in all the right ways. if it had been more over the top of the original, I would have really been rolling my eyes. this version is still very powerful and it is going to see a lot of play.
I suspect the most frustrating thing about casting New Emrakul will be the fact that your soon-to-be-controlled opponent will often concede before you actually get to win with the cards you have in play. That being said, a win is still a win so it won't be all bad.
I love the continuity going on here. I really like how Nahiri is exacting the most absurdly extreme revenge against sorin, for shutting her inside the helvault for hundreds of years.
So what if the eldrazi come back for a single set. What's the problem? This is a cool continuation and a nice storytelling anchor.
It's certainly not ruined the story, and it isn't objectively bad storytelling either.
In three months you won't be seeing eldrazi again for years. Chill and enjoy the spectacle. It's fun.
No I will be seeing them for the next year and a half in standard. They sold this block as a MYSTERY, the only mystery is how annoyed people will get with the total lack of MYSTERY in there mystery. Continuity? True we have the same good guys and the same bad guys, with the same goals, just on a different plane. Might as well be the same block. Boring. Guess now we will have flip Eldrazi. The story telling would have been tons better if the blocks was reversed. They built the how story arc backwards. You never announce the big baddie then play guess who. And personally if I ever see another Eldrazi based set it will be too soon. I didn't enjoy Rise of the Eldrazi, I hated Battle for Zendikar, and Oath of the Gatewatch while better than Battle for Zendikar wasn't that fun. Eldrazi just is fun for me.
I am glad someone likes mysteries with no mystery. Someone even called Emrakul would be a 13/13 for 13 with a Mindslaver like comes into play ability. So much for mystery. Or even a slightly unpredictable story arc. Worse mystery ever and that is exactly what they billed it as. Not "Eldrazi VS. the Gatewatch 2: We Really Have Zero New Ideas So We are Mixing One of Our Best Worlds With Our Worst Block EVER". I hope they never ever print anther Eldrazi themed set again, like ever. IF they do I will not buy it like I normally do, just like I will not buy a single pack out of this set. I may draft it as I love limited even did a Homelands draft a few weeks ago as I love limited, may buy a few singles I need to be competitive in standard but I will not crack a single pack of any Eldrazi themed set again. They haven't been fun and honestly the story here isn't fun as it was so predictable.

I'm with you, man. I just don't understand who they thought were going to be surprised by this "mystery." I also think Wizards really thought the reception to the eldrazi would be a lot better in BFZ block.

Can you name all of the creature types with at least 20 cards? Try my Sporcle Quiz! Last Updated: 6/29/20 (Core Set 2021).
I really like this new Emrakul. The abilities are interesting and it gives ramp another good top end monster besides Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger. While some may be lamenting giving the opponent an extra turn, it was probably a necessary addition. Without it there would be games where it would go cast Emrakul, crack Sanctum of Ugin getting Emrakul; then you take your opponent's turn and wreak their board; then go to your turn and attack with Emrakul hitting them for 13 and dropping your next Emrakul and they just get to watch you play Magic until they die. This is a situation the designers and developers do not want in standard.
As far as the story is concerned, I like it. However, I really like Lovecraftian horrors and this seems much better executed in that regard than BFZ block. BFZ had the monsters but in many ways it was more a sort of fantasy based approach to trying to stop something like Godzilla. This has story has done a far better job of capturing the madness and unease that typically accompanies a Lovecraftian monster. Not to mention different stories are going to appeal to different people. I really like the Eldrazi, many others do not. I have a friend who did not like the first Innistrad block because he didn't want a "Twilight" magic set.
She could be a pretty quick cast in standard if you run a clues deck with Tamiyos Journal and Briarbridge Patrol. Tutor for her and put her into play in one fell swoop. Since you aren't casting her you don't get to control the opponents turn but you get a fast way to a 13/13 trample on the field.
This card will see lots of Standard play, especially with Nahiri.
I think I'd rather cheat in Dragonlord Atarka than the new Emrakul. Emmy's "cast" ability doesn't work with Nahiri, and he's also way harder to re-cast out of your hand next turn. I'd rather drop Atarka, deal 5 damage to some creatures, swing for 8, then re-cast Atarka next turn to deal 5 more damage, which between both, is probably enough to wipe their board.
I think it'll see "some" play at best... but its a dead rock in your hand until at least turn 8-10 in MOST cases... making him not standard playable.

I think the people who are disappointed in the power level of Emrakul, the Promised End are definitely underrating her. The main problem is that she's being compared to Emrakul, The Aeons Torn, one of the most powerful magic cards ever printed. The old card excels at killing people on the spot, but the new card isn't too far behind, just in a different fashion.
Instead, the new card should be compared to Mindslaver itself, arguably the closest analogue and an eminently playable card in its own right. Let's put the two side by side:
afterwards, you get a free 13/13 flying trample with a little protection (their extra turn = a normal turn)
As you can see, mostly it comes down to this: Mindslaver effectively gets you a time walk, and Emrakul gets you a giant evasive beater with decent protection. If Standard decks exist against which Mindslaver is especially effective (traditionally combo or control, decks which may actually be happier with you getting a time walk than a giant beater), the new Emrakul will see a good amount of play. I don't really like her in a format full of aggro decks and tokens, but if that changes she could shine. As for other formats, she'll probably fight for Mindslaver's niche. Just don't expect the new card to define its own niche like the old card.

Good for you
Then we are on the same boat
I do think people are underating Newrakul due to oldrakul
And mindslaver will also have slight atvantage over the creature
But EDH that's going to be a immense battle because that's holding a mind control one person each time you cast and also make it almost free because of all 4 eldrazi cost reducer cards (colorless/artifact ones anyway.) Eye of Ugin conduit of ruin urza's incubator Cloud key
Stop complaining about them getting that extra turn after you steal their main turn. You can prevent that, and even sac/destroy the Nexus to take YOUR OWN extra turn afterward....
I must really say, I dig this card! Seriously, ever since the titans have been getting reprinted, I was waiting to see what new things WotC would develop for them. They didn't disappoint for the most part. (NOTE: I'm mainly an EDH player so my perspective is going to be very different.)
To get it out of the way: yes, this is not Emrakul, the Aeons Torn. But did you really want it to be, though? The original Emrakul is fun to play but not to play against. 15/15, flying, annihilator 6, can't be countered, protection from colored spells and the caster gets a free turn...do I need to say it?
As for everyone who keeps saying it's bad that the player you choose gets an extra turn: how else were they going to attempt to balance this thing? (I say attempt because we know someone is going to abuse this thing and make it utterly degenerate.) I mean you have to give other people a chance and considering everything else the card is and it has the ability to lower it's casting cost...there had to be a drawback somewhere. Besides, instead a bemoaning that fact that it has that drawback, look at it as a challenge to your tactical senses. Who do you go after and how much can you mess so that their extra turn doesn't mean anything?
Also to the people bemoaning that the Eldrazi are still being featured in the story...get over it. We KNEW it was coming! Emrakul was unaccounted for. Most people I know or talked to believed that Emrakul was going to be on Innistrad. I mean, Nahiri did say that she would make it suffer like Zenndikar. Well, Zenndikar was Eldrazi chow, how else was she going to top it.
But back to the card itself. Considering that WotC has been following the theme of each of the new titans being similar to their old cards and that had been a mixed bag IMHO, I think they did well with this. Emrakul has more weaknesses but still remains very powerful. Can't wait to put this thing in my Animar deck!

The new Emrakul is actually one of the better targets for Nahiri's ultimate because it's got protection from instants, making it very hard to deal with before it gets bounced at the end of the turn. Any instant kill removes Atarka and then you've used her ultimate for 5 damage.
Edit: Also I really like the art. Love the cosmic horror feel.

My apologies, children, for I am afraid I cannot save you all.
I have been researching different brews and builds of Tron for Modern. I started with building the main for R/G Tron before the Eye ban. Has anyone tried using stuff like Skittering Invasion and other Eldrazi Tribal cards in order to maximize the reduction cost for Emrakul?
Yea that's killing me
That would have been put in colorless decks in a heart beat.

Yeah. So we could all fill decks with different card types and the first to play Emrakul wins. Fun.
