For everyone that thinks this is good, you do realize these are pretty easy to reseal...
For the extra slow, people are going to open packs look at the cards reseal them and sell them on ebay just like people used to look through the pack and see what was in it prior to ice age. This was the one of dumbest thing that they ever could have done
^ This.
And the excess glue on the outside of the packs will make them unusable as a build your own draft cube card holder.
You can reseal any booster pack these are just easier. And I doubt people will buy single packs from a stranger that seems sketchy because of this. Don't get me wrong it's easy to reseal and I agree. But modern masters isn't really s set were single packs are sitting on shelves. Most stores aren't even selling any.
I don't doubt that wizards "tested" these, I just have zero faith in that actually meaning anything. How careful were the testers when opening? Think about it this way these are $10 a pack, in some countries that is a solid days pay, you don't think some of these people would be willing to slowly take an hour plus opening a pack while being as careful as possible for the chance to make far more then they could at a typical job in their area for a full day? I mean I can even see people here in America doing it
As to people buying single packs on the internet, no I wouldn't and im sure most of the people on here wouldn't either, but what about the guy that lives in the small town with no gaming store who cant afford a whole box. The majority of packs might go in the form of whole boxes / draft & sealed pools but there will be people buying single packs online because they have no other option.
As to boxes being shrink wrapped, yeah they should be, pretty sure (although I haven't bought a box in a few sets so maybe someone else could confirm this) the wrap should even have wizards logos on it.
This has nothing to do with the original topic, but it is commentary on a potential pitfall of the new packaging. I've opened almost a booster box of single booster packs and have noticed that many of the cards are kinda damaged, some even to the point of being considered "slightly played". Both my Noble Hierarch and Cryptic Command pulls look pretty bad for pack fresh cards. IDK if this has anything to with the packaging, but I have yet to see booster pulls be so uniformly damaged over multiple booster boxes (all from legit game stores). They should not use this packaging again IMO.
To those saying regular packs a la DTK and such being resealable, they technically are but the effort put into resealing one of those packs is enormous in comparison to one of these new packs. I like the idea of recycling and saving the planet. What I don't like is the damaged cards coming out of packs because if I pull a tarmogoyf I want a NM/M tarmogoyf not something else.
I didn't plan on buying packs before this resealable packs issue came up and that just reinforces my plan. Loose packs on the web? Never ever touch them in a million years.

I whole heartedly agree. My 1st box, I put the uncommons and commons back in the packs. Put the box in my car, drove ~300 miles for work today, and just took them back out of their re-packs. Some are really feeling different than the other cards. Almost the whole edge of some of them have that "slightly played" or even a "played" feel. Definitely would be considered marked cards in a sleeveless deck in a tourney. Finally, concerning my 1st box, as I mentioned in my previous posts in this thread, the glue... This box had an excess of glue on several of the packs. Like small sticky hairs on the outsides of a few of the packs. Not something you want to have if you plan to reuse the packs for anything: dividers, draft cube re-packs, etc.
As for quality: The last two commons in my 2nd box all have the top left corner not cut to match the other cards. It's a fraction of a millimeter off. Stacking up the cards, in pack order, you can see the noticeable difference. Whole box is this way.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, I pulled the mythic/rares and foils and put them into a deck box and KMC perfect fits almost right away.
Haven't done a tally of the damaged edges for the cards. I do see and feel it. Checked both boxes as I was writing this post. I'll do a tally and fire off a nasty gram. When I crack a pack, I want it pack fresh - Not near mint - let alone "marked".
So... anyone got a line on some Chinese or Japanese packs?
So we know it was mostly a scheme to increase prices, but how many of you actually plan to recycle them?
The issue isn't about recycling, but the fact that they degrade by themselves when not recycled. Over time, paper riots away and disappears, because it is made of organic material. But plastic lasts forever. It falls apart into tiny pieces and gets eaten by birds and fish. Next time you gut a bird or fish for food, look inside the entrails, and you will find plastic.
Okay, but my issue wasn't whether paper is in fact biodegradable(it's common knowledge), but whether people will actually recycle when given the push from wizards. Nevertheless, my main concern is that the $3 increase, and the subsequent 3 euro increase was definitely far more than what the increase on the pack's producing cost was. THAT was therefore, the profit increase scheme. I'm sorry I wasn't clear on that.

That's what's stopping me from drafting in Australia. $50/draft is too rich for my tastes. (Store is selling boxes at around $380, and boosters at $16/per)

While I certainly appreciate Wizards making an effort to make these packs recyclable (and I will definitely recycle any that I happen to open), I hope that this is not the permanent packaging that Wizards uses in the future. I was 100% planning on buying a box of Modern Masters 2015 and just sitting on it, but that no longer feels viable. There are collectors out there who should be able to sit on their cards until they are ready to open them. Imagine if when Openboosters had cracked that Beta Black Lotus, it was all degraded due to the packaging? Man, how disappointing that would be.
I very much doubt the three dollar increase was due to the packaging. I believe wizards was trying to match MSRP to what they believed the LGSs would sell the packs for, but they overestimated the value of the packs and went too far in trying to compensate for the price variance of MM1 packs at release.
I noticed a higher percent of damaged cards with these new packaging tactics. The fact that the packs can be tampered with is bad and within the packs themselves the cards shift a decent amount and I noticed a heavier percent of damage to cards before you open them possibly in part due to their ability to shift in their pack. I also noticed some additional damage to them which might have been the packager placing them into the pack where it would look like some sort of indentation into a few of the cards.
It could be worthwile in the future to put the rare and foil towards the middle of the pack rather than on the end to avoid damage to them.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
as someone mentioned california. i can take a guess and say wizards wants to avoid being seen as destroying the enviroment. and iv heard suggested that some enviromentalist types have raised legal issue about it. that wizards was TOLD they must do something about there plastic wrappers. keep in mind in many states. there is a push to phase out plastic bags. etc it was this or do the dry run in origins. with origins you would have to redo packaging for intro packs, blister packs etc etc.

The easiness to open and search Modern Masters 2015 packs and reseal is bad.
I have not experienced damaged cards from the one draft I played in at the LGS but we shall see when I draft the boxes I bought with my friends.
