One of my favorite hate bears ever. It forces opponents to interact with their opponents' board if they want to get abuse creatures in various ways. Fun in Commander, probably fun in Legacy.

A huge boost to Maverick, death and taxes, and other fair decks in legacy, especially the non-blue variety. Goes a long way toward dealing with show and tell/sneak attack decks (although they can still play omniscience). Also provides an instant-speed answer for reanimator decks that ensures they can't draw 7 off griselbrand in response to your swords to plowshares, which half the time will draw them a force of will that they can counter the swords with anyway.
It's not fool-proof. Priest can still be countered, or bounced/removed before emrakul resolves. On the draw turn 2 could be too late, and even on the play sometimes they're going to go turn 1 lotus petal, swamp, thoughtseize myself to dump griselbrand to the grave, reanimate. But, it's a non-blue viable answer to some of the most obnoxious combo decks out there, and it's a big improvement over oblivion ring for that purpose. I like it.
I have a question about this card and legacy... How does Containment Priest interact with Dryad Arbor? It's a creature, but a land, so are you "casting" it when you play it from your hand? Also, am I correct to assume that it would stop people from using fetchlands to grab their Dryad Arbor?
And those are just off the top of my head. I get why this card must exist for Legacy, and I get that as a 2/2 it's easily dealt with, but there's a lot of collateral damage this chick deals on her path to stop Show and Tell.

Another interesting note: This card gives a lot of incidental hate towards dredge without interacting with the graveyard. It won't stop bridges from making tokens, but it'll stop them from getting creatures out of the yard to make tokens with. Incidental hate against dredge is always a good thing imo.
In both cases Dryad Arbor is not cast, so it would be exiled. That's not very nice.
Assuming that an opponent flashes in Containment Priest in response to a fetch/vial activation, I think the player in question would be altogether hard-pressed to still attempt to put Dryad Arbor onto the battlefield upon that ability's resolution.

No, searching in non-public zone can deliberately fail. So in case of vial and gsz nothing have to be exiled. In case of playing driad as land drop you canot respond to that with flashing in priest.

Wow, that's a pretty gnarly effect. But since it's a land, it's not like you can respond to it. It just stops them playing from the hand after it's in play.

Right, that's what I was saying; that they'd be hard-pressed to do so.
Here's the skinny. Ethan from Wizards actually explained over at The Mana Drain that Containment Priest was designed with Vintage in mind. The problem in Vintage is that white decks are very under-represented, so they printed a broad hate card that stops Tinker/Oath/Dredge/SnT all in one nice little package. It does this very well, and I'm delighted they printed it.
Is there splash damage for Legacy? Absolutely. In fact, Priest is probably much more devastating for Sneak and Show than for anything in Vintage, for the simple fact that the legacy deck has less room to add ways to deal with Priest than a Vintage deck does. However, note also that in Legacy it is also a far more limited card. In Vintage, Priest violently hates out three of the most powerful strategies in the format. In Legacy, she attacks two decks (sneak and dredge) and gives you some splash damage against Elves. That's a very small part of the Legacy metagame. The sky is not falling -- it's just another hate card, people.
Now, if you start seeing more blink effects back in DnT, then maybe, MAYBE this card gets maindecked there. Otherwise, this is just another arrow in the already bloated quiver of good answers to specific combo decks.
This card is the final blow to the Legacy Format.
With some copies of Priest in the sideboard
Delver-Based decks and UW Miracle have even more
power to destroy all other decks post sideboard
Imagine the amount of cards this Cleric can shut down:
Dryad Arbors,Green Sun's Zenith and Natural Order,
Sneak Attack,Show and Tell and any sort of reanimation spell.
The entire Dredge deck is almost locked down,no narcomoebas,no Ichorid,no Dread Returns..
If you play Miracles,Aether-Vial decks (Merfolk and D&T) have no more escape from your Counterbalance.
Kuldotha Forgemaster and Goblin Welder from the MUD and Painter Archetypes and even Lands decks with the Dark Depths combo!
Another mistake that will ruin this format even more
If it really came to this...wouldn't it just get banned? Are we maybe being a little dramatic?
I just want to note that this actually does nothing against Living Death. Players will exile creatures from their graveyards, then you will sacrifice this along with all your other guys on the battlefield, then it won't be around to stop the exiled cards from entering.
Containment priest isn't even good against Delver, which is a gigantic behemoth of the meta now thanks to Treasure Cruise. A sideboard only card isn't exactly going to be dominating formats, let's get serious here.
It's rather insane to think this card will be a problem compared to actual offenders like Treasure Cruise and, well, Delver of Secrets itself. Delver's printing was an awful mistake and it remains one.

Treasure Cruise needs a banning in multiple formats. It isn't fun to play against and it's powerful enough to be warping almost every format, especially modern and legacy. I play 1 in my UB Teachings deck in pauper, and I feel like I win every single game that I cast it. I would be happier if it was banned from pauper, even though I currently use one.
To remain on topic: Since Containment Priest doesn't currently hate on the big cruise decks, I feel it won't be nearly as devastating to legacy as some think. It basically only hates on combo decks, and we all know how Wizards feels about combo right now. If anything is gunna cause enough problems to get banned, it'll be Cruise, not Containment Priest.
Seems cool.

It also stops Natural Order and Aether Vial, so that's cool.
