I just cashed in 100 € for 12 Wingmate Rocs since I seriously needed some quick and easy money before November. How mad am I?
The card has the chance to raise in value in the short term, but in the long term, it will most definitely drop. It's a purely Standard card. So I think that was a good deal.
Yeah, my initial intention was to sell them the first week where the Pro-Tour hype inflates the prices and maybe if they reach a good sum keep 3-4 for playing Standard. I mean, I already have most of the lands, and painlands are fairly cheap and easy to get, specially BW ones (I predict BWx midrange will be a pretty good contender).
Also thought about investing in some Siege Rhinos and Butcher of the Horde, but decided to bet it all on Roc since it was a mythic.
Monastery Swiftspear was severely underrated by a lot of people, including me. It's seeing play in Standard, Modern, and Legacy, and it honestly wouldn't surprise me too much if people started playing it in Vintage as well.
Is Monastery Swiftspear strictly better than Goblin Guide ? Maybe not all situtions, like goblin decks, for example, but I think this is the best one drop ever printed in red.
If you can cast even one non-creature spell after Swiftspear, it is already superior to Guide with no drawback and +0/+1 to toughness.
Arguably, this raises casting cost of Swiftspear. For that reason, Gitaxian Probe is a strong synergy here. In an instant/sorcery
based deck, as many a red deck is, it will not be difficult to cast multiple spells on your turn making Swiftspear a good midrange option.
Goblin guide can lose his oomph if drawn late in the game.
Swiftspear is *really* good but Guide is still a bit better imo. Swiftspear requires you to play spells at potentially awkward times to get that bonus, assuming you even have spells every attack, which let's face it, you just won't. Meanwhile, Guide just bashes for 2 every turn with no pre-conditions.
Don't get me wrong--I immediately bought a playset, jammed him in my burn deck and promptly abandoned a playset of GG's for the immediate future. That doesn't mean GG isn't still a bit better.

Well, I concede that goblin guide is better in plenty of situations for its consistency. It really depends on the deck though, in some builds swiftspear is superior. Great that red is getting more good cards!

I'm just so happy with that Pro-Tour. I used to collect Wingmate Rocs since KTK came out, based on the feeling this card would be better in standard than it looked like, and they were in semi-crap status, and now they're trading/selling like nuts. Beating the market is pretty awesome feeling
Do you think they will go up more or should I start selling already? I predict they will continue to rise during the next two-three weeks or so and then remain stable.
So I had my first chance to PLAY with Mindswipe last night.
For some reason I thought if your opp managed to pay the your Mindswipe would do NOTHING. BOY WAS I WRONG. You *still* get to dome them for X damage, regardless of outcome? That is 100% awesome.

Yeah it's my pick for the #3 card of the set (behind the obvious two broken delve draw cards). It's up there with Delver of Secrets in contention for the best 1 drop for tempo decks ever.
I wouldn't call it a sleeper though - it was known within days of the set being released.
For a standard sleeper, I'm still half expecting Surrak Dragonclaw to break out. He is insane at ambushing planeswalkers, brutal against control and as a 6/6 flash for 5 he's only overcosted by half a mana against any aggro or midrange deck that tries to win on the ground.
Wish I'd gotten more Dig Through Time before it spiked. I mean, I think it was kind of a given that it was going to be played, but I'm not sure if anyone saw it reaching $13 (TCGplayer Average)

Well its fairly hyped, still not too expensive, as you can get them for like 7 bucks (just not at a shop).
Got me some foil during the PreRelease still.
I just imagine Treasure Cruise would be rare, that would be a serious money thing.

Ohhhh yes. Mindswipe is awesome. I played it one FNM (2x of MD in Jeskai), swiped some minds, and then the following week everyone at my LGS was running it. My first FNM with Mindswipe I hit opponents for 3 or 4 surprisingly regularly while countering Elspeths, late Rhinos and everything else.
