My friends and I have opened 5 boxes from the same case, they contained 3, 3, 3, 4, and 2 fetches. In those 5 boxes we've cracked 4 Sarkhans to just 1 Sorin, and 0 Clever Impersonators. We only paid $87 per box, so so far every box has, at the moment, paid for itself.
Just adding my 2 boxes to this list to increase the sample size:
2 boxes. 1 fetchland. Of the 15 non-fetch cards that Starcity lists above $5 I got 8 of them. Sorin was my only pull that was worth more than $10 (other than the one fetch). I only paid $90 per box but I didn't even come close to getting any value out of them.

Getting into Modern if you have any commons/uncommons you want to unload for cheap (everything before Zendikar needed). My trade list.
2 boxes, the first left me pretty sore - 1 fetch, but also sarkhan. The rest of the box wasn't all that bad, I just had my hopes up for some better fetch counts in the volume I had bought into. The second box had me fuming for a bit as up to the last 6 packs I had opened one fetch (in the first 8 or so packs) and nothing of real value. The last 6 had 2 fetches which helped my hurt a little. You really can't buy your luck... I know this, I have been playing too long not too. My recent excursions to various LGSs and box stores have bought more luck.
been feeling the pain too. opened two boxes and maybe 15 other packs, NO fetches. sadface. I dont even know why i buy sealed product anymore, I have the WORST luck with pulls.
Last friday at FNM the price support for 1 draft table was 8 packs. There were 6 fetch opened from them.
I also saw boxes opened from 1-7 fetches. So I guess it's more random.
I'm quite happy with my box so far (only 21 boosters opened until now - one 5 man draft and one 2 man draft with collegues; 15 are still waiting for the next 5 man draft)
Seems like an interesting prize distribution. I got 4th out of 89 players at my prerelease, winning me a total of 4 packs. It was also 6 rounds of swiss (I went 5-1).
I think the winner got 4 or 6, I can't remember. Salty.
Something feels extremely wrong here, this is one of the biggest thievery episodes I ever heard in Magic.
i'd agree, except it really depends on the entry fee.
if each person was only paying for their boosters, plus a tiny bit more, it's not surprising that only 20 or so boosters were the prize.
if the entry fee was for a whole extra booster per person, yes. lame prize support.
unless! unless they gave out a minimum 4 boosters to everyone with a positive record, to share the wealth, as it were. then it would be perfectly fine.

Modern: G Tron, Vannifar, Jund, Druid/Vizier combo, Humans, Eldrazi Stompy (Serum Powder), Amulet, Grishoalbrand, Breach Titan, Turns, Eternal Command, As Foretold Living End, Elves, Cheerios, RUG Scapeshift
First box had Foil Sorin and two fetches. Maybe something else, I forget, was pleased / happy with box.
Second box had Sarkhan, Foil Windswept Heath, and one of each fetch. Winner!
Third box had... Wingmate Roc, I think, or maybe that was the second box, and then three fetches plus a Foil Flooded Strand. Yay!
Fourth box had one measly fetch, and I think the other Wingmate Roc; unless that was box 2 and 3... either way, this one sucked. It had two foil rares, though.
Honestly, I was even roughly mostly almost totally content (lol) with the last box, but I can see how averages pay off over time, and luck probably damns or praises.
yeah, my boyfriend got 2 in his; I got 7. Since then I cannot buy packs without packing a fetch. also have 4 of each now! Same box had a rhino, impersonator, Roc, the list goes on. No walkers though, but still was the best box I've ever opened
I got the average three in my box, but two were green, which I was stoked about, and the other one was Polluted Delta, which I promptly turned into a green one. I think the foil Wingmate Roc makes up for it though.
