With the shocklands in Standard for this, the new Nissa and Chord of Calling, I could see a predominantly green Sliver deck doing...something in Standard. Not sure what removal/non-slivers to look at, but it at least is something amusing to consider.
If you are not committed to slivers, it is outclassed by Desecration Demon, Blood Baron, Aetherling, Stormbreath Dragon and Elspeth in combat (i.e. every high cost card that sees play can neutralise this effectively, and only DD doesn't utterly dominate it).
If you are committed to slivers, you are playing a lot of bad cards just to make one above-average 5 drop that's hard to cast.
Being white and black is a big drawback for a finisher, sadly. Particularly being white.
Its like red wine, turkey and home videos. Its like a full jar of tylenol PM. Its like the noir aliens from dark city. Its like my standup routine. Its like harriet tubman at the prairie home companion show. Its like a popping ambien from a pez dispenser. Its like the fat indian guy from avatar pumping sedatives into decaprio's veins. Its like a swarm of tsetse flies. Its like a disgruntled factory worker knocking samuel clemens upside the head. Its like david letterman's monologue. Its like the first handful of bars of the surprise symphony. Its like warm milk. Its like spooning.
I'm just hoping one of the other slivers helps disrupt combo at a reasonable cost. If so, that and this guy should make slivers Modern viable, since this guy may as well read "Win target fair matchup, as long as your opponent doesn't have a Path to Exile or Dismember."

I think what Slivers really needs is a Elvish Visionary or Silvergill Adept. No, Dormant Sliver isn't close, not when it costs 4. Of course, we'll never get a draw-a-card Sliver at 2 mana because it's mandated to apply to all Slivers and that would be undercosted.
As far as this guy goes, well, he seems OK for casual. If Knight Exemplar is anything to go by, casual players love indestructibility. T1 land, 1-drop; T2 land, Manaweft/Gemhide; T3 Hivelord means you can block forever, more or less.
In competitive play he will just eat a Path/Swords, or your opponent will burn one of your smaller Slivers and disrupt your T3 Hivelord, or just not care and combo kill you. Tough world.
Probably not THAT difficult to cast when combined with Manaweft and the new land. If the mana works I could see this guy putting slivers over the top for a few months and at least making them FNM competitive. I see the pieces for a decent aggro curve among the slivers we have so far.
It's certainly an interesting commander. In my opinion, it's better than Sliver Queen and Sliver Legion. I'm torn on whether or not it is better than Sliver Overlord though. Indestructible vs repeatable but mana intensive tutoring. It's a fun problem to have.
Slivers ceased being 'fun' a LONG time ago. Their flavor is only outstripped by their sheer oppressiveness.
Mark my words: MANY of you will be absolutely sick of Slivers in a few weeks..
Maybe...there is still a LOT of removal in the format and this is the only guy capable of protecting your slivers, but he doesn't come down until at least turn 3-4 even with manaweft sliver. Plus color fixing is pretty *****ty right now (not a fan of Scry Temples )
This is a good new sliver design. What the M14 slivers should have been. It's not the old slivers, but it's close enough to fool people who don't know enough about biology, which is good enough for me.
I'm not talking about this card in particular. How about READING and THEN replying to what I said instead of just popping off?
I am talking about the TRIBE of Slivers...as in, ALL OF THEM.
Calm down, then, go back and read your own post. When you said, "sick of Slivers in a few weeks". It was implied that you were talking about this card's effect in standard since it will be legal in standard in a few weeks(you never actually specified a format for your hate). Also, when you post in a thread, in the New Card Discussion forum that is titled about a specific card, most people would assume you are tying your posts to that card. So talking about Slivers in general in a specific card thread is confusing for the readers.
Mark my words: MANY of you will be absolutely sick of Slivers in a few weeks..
Well, it suspiciously looks like you made a comment that players in Standard will be sick of Slivers in the coming few weeks after M15 release, as Slivers ain't played in other formats besides casual and I expect occasionally at FNM. So if players suddenly pick Slivers up it is due to the new Slivers in M15 and the Hivelord is bound to be tested among them.
Also, there's no reason to get all defensive, Duke just mentioned that this particular Sliver still have counter-points, also available in Standard.
To address your point: Yes people will eventually get sick of Slivers. I have a friend who has a casual Sliver deck and while he doesn't ram all the best and easy-solution card-synergies into the deck it is still pretty annoying to deal with if you don't have a board wipe available within the first 6-7 turns if he starts with a "good" hand.
Alright fine, yes, i was being kinda grumpy & my apologies to Duke. *****ty day. No need for ALL CAPS, no. Sorry.
Just expressing general sick-of-Slivers, not this guy. This guy seems actually pretty boring as the other WUBRG ones goes, for same reasons others pointed out.
I've played same casual group for 14(!?) years. Slivers are just...and every time they bring them back, every new player in every playgroup I've ever been in decides to build a WUBRG Sliver deck and we all let out this collective groan. URK. I'll just stop there.
New players: Enjoy Slivers and get it out of your system. I will not deprive them the fun I had with them, although I will say they just seem to get more and more degenerate as time goes on. Ugh.

I don't really see how (on its own, no other Sliver support) a WUBRG 7/7 Indestructible is any worse than this or this but whatever.
in terms of modern slivers, this is exactly what we needed. The ultimate resilient sliver. The only think that would've been better was hex proof. Bravo wizards! but Modern slivers is still far away from being more than a dream. It needs slivers that interact with the opponent. A ravenous rats sliver, Flametongue Kavu sliver, and elvish visionary sliver are all ideal cards that would make slivers competitive. But we are definitely about 3 cards short of slivers being competitive. Wizards needs to give us a reason to play Slivers over merfolk. This is definitely a step in the right direction though!

Anyhow I think it's a good card, but I think a lot of people are really putting it too far into the spotlight. I've heard people saying this will see play as a finisher in control decks. Uhmm, what control decks want to play this over any of the numerous options, better options, available? I'm not saying a 5/5 indestructible for 5 isn't good, but it doesn't really do anything outstanding. You need Slivers to make it shine. I can't see a 5 color deck working just to fit this guy in, when AEtherling and others are so much easier to work with.
Don't get me wrong, I love slivers, and I love this card, but I think just because it's a sliver legend and we haven't gotten one in awhile people are getting too hyped up for it as far as standard playability goes.

The effect would be functionally worse than Manaweft Sliver in an all-sliver deck.

Would have been broken at 7/7 and 5/5 is more reasonable.
In Wizards speak that means "Would have been good at 7/7 and 5/5 is just crap".
