For Standard, I think these colors have a hard enough time dealing with aggro that his cost is probably a bit too restrictive for him to see play. Courser and Caryatid are good and everything, but Convoke based aggro is just an absolute beating for GB
Ty fixed. I think he will be best post rotation, 7 mana walkers are easy after the rotation.
Depends on what kind of ramp we get in the fall. I see him being tried out the 3 months before rotation with all the ramp we have right now. If we dont get some type of ramp replacement in the fall or the format doesnt slow down, I doubt he will see much play unless some rock control deck pops up.
I mentioned this in the main Rumor Mill thread as well, but am I the only one seeing him slotting into a BUG control deck shell post rotation? I mean, I know we have about 300 more cards to see in Khans, so maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. But I'm not sure he'll fit into a devotion-ey midrange deck.
26 Lands
4 Courser of Kruphix
4 Sylvan Caryatid
4 Thoughtseize
4 Hero's Downfall
4-6 other relevant removal
4-6 appropriate counterspells
3-4 Black Wrath effect from Khans

Wizards print good rares, players complain about cash grab. They print underwhelming rares, players complain that the cards suck. They spoil the best cards first, players complain about the insane prices of preorders. They spoil the meh cards first, players complain that this is the worst set ever.
So. I think I understand now.
As far as these forums are concerned, WotC can never do anything good because:
Card that is new and probably good = "pushed"
Card that is new and probably bad = "EDH/casual fodder"
Card that is a reprint = "lazy"
Card that is a better version of an older card = "power creep"
Card that is a weaker version of an older card = "worthless"
This card seems absurdly powerful if you can figure out how to get it out. When it hits the board if you cant remove it, it is pretty much gameover. Which is what I expect out of a 7 drop. I think this can work.
I have a dream...
Turn 1 mana dork
turn 2 mana dork
turn 3 nissa + something else
turn 4 garruk
Yes, he's definitely going in my GWB super-anti-friends deck...
Garruk, Nissa, Ajani (Steadfast and Mentor), Elspeth, and then more ramp. Hope there's cultivates or rampant growths. A turn 3-4 Garruk will not only be scary, but it might just seal the game completely. I think he's pretty durly with my dream setup. Turn 1 elf, turn 2 cultivate/rampant (I so want either), turn 3 Nissa, turn 4 Garruk or Elspeth. As Nissa can untap shocks for now.
Well, post rotation thoughts aside, I'm willing to try this in a Crypt Ghast deck with Liliana of the Dark Realms...seems like a flavorful fun build ;-)

Mana cost aside, this card seems really good. I can't get too excited because the mana cost limits it a lot. In the decks that can best utilize a bunch of extra mana it seems like caller of the beasts may be better. (I'm thinking devotion.) I do think Nissa makes this card more realistic in less rampy decks, (especially with shocklands still around.)
I doubt we get 3-4 black wraths in khans, but I would like to see this list in a bug control strategy.

Im using a Jund Control Shell for him. With Life's Legacy, i don't need to splash blue for a draw spell.
it should more be of like this:
4x sylvan caryatid
4x courser
4x stormbreath
2x polukranos in the side
4x some 4-5 mana large monsters is needed in a jund control shell, unless you plan to with walkers only which is hard to do in a jund control shell.
4x hero's downfall
4x thoughtseize
2x anger of the gods
2x drown in sorrow
4x magma spray, if we see more aggro or dorks. Otherwise it's lightning strikes or harness by force
4x life's legacy, sac off stormbreath or some creature with harness by force and draw cards.
The abundance of strong planeswalkers out post M15 should give his first ability plenty of use, especially with big Elspeth generally being the most powerful card in Standard going forward (actually that title probably belongs to Thoughtseize, but Elspeth is the biggest "threat" out there). And both of the other abilities, pumping out deathtouchers and nuking creatures, seem great against the various "monsters" decks that we will be seeing. Put it together and he looks like an amazing trump card against most standard midrange/control builds.
OTOH he looks pretty bad against most aggro decks.
Ultimately I think he will see play as a 1-2 of in BGx midrange/control.
that is true but one problem. if you decide to start doing that, that means your going to have to do that every single turn until you draw extra mana to be able to do something else the same turn or, committ to do something your turn then they respond by using a kill spell on one of those two creatures. doing that uses up all your mana and not allowing you to do anything else for a few turns which just gives them more draws into more good stuff. so yes you have a decent plan, its just in the end your opponent will get more benefit from it
Yea, I don't expect that to win me alot of time. Maybe it will slow me up more than save me.
I plan on using Prophet of Kruphix and the new Chief Engineer in a UG Artifact deck. Soul of New Phyrexia being 6/6 Trample should put enough pressure on the opponent Garruk. And having the ability to protect all my permanent(indestructible) is a great adition. But as you said, it will greatly slow my mana production if I use it everyturn on SoNP. Hence why I had Prophet of Kruphyx. She as a weak body and die to all, but she synergie with the Convoke ability and with SoNP. In adition, she give flash to all my creature (casting a Phyrexian Revoker while Garruk, Apex is still in the stack could be great)
I don't know if I will manage to put my plan on execution every game. I might hit myself on a wall with that deck.

Worth the wait? I think so
Edit: Also, the token is a beast and has Deathtouch.
Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.
The token is a Beast, not a Wolf. You still haven't changed that.

That ultimate should have costed less, however. Had it been -6 it might have partly made up for the 7 mana cost.
