Soul of Shandalar
Am I the only one super excited for this card? May not be as flashy as some of the other ones, and being at six mana in red when red already has Stormbreath Dragon may be it's undoing for viable constructed play, it still really intrigues me. Having first strike means it beats out every other one (except Ravnica which has flying) and to boot it can start a decent clock along with destroying smaller creatures in the way of any others you may have. I wanted to create a Big Red deck for next standard along with Dictate of the Twin Gods (imagine having both out, magical Christmas land maybe but it will be fun to try!).
Does anybody else see potential in this card? Or am I just imagining things, being a somewhat newly converted red mage myself. It's going for $10 preorder on Starcitygames which bugs me. Hopefully no one else thinks it's good and the hype goes down so I can grab it for cheap.
The creature is great but it's his ability that I like the most. 5CMC to deal 3 damage to a player and 3 to a creature he control is not bad. Put it in with Chandra, Pyromaster +1 and Searing Blood.
The First Strike is great. The fact it's an uncounterable Lightning Bolt or Searing Blaze when it dies is awesome. And it can definitely take over a game when left unchecked. In a ramp deck I'd say it's better than Soul of Zendikar, even if it does cost red mana. It looks fair but strong to me. It's the best Soul for a control deck too. Unfortunately I'm not sure if this has a home or not. Perhaps GR Monsters? I don't know... Maybe Big Red will be a deck again?

I wish Reckoner was sticking around for Nykthos shenanigans. Quickly ramping into this thing would be awesome. I think Gruul will be the place for this though. Elvish Mystic is being reprinted, plus with Caryated, Courser, and Xenagos ramping you could slam this pretty quick.
Good curve topper. Dropping this on turn 5 or 6 will be hard for midrange decks to deal with. This is assuming you even have a hand to play with since you probably got Thoughtseized and duressed the first 3 turns of the game and they have zombies and a bunch of mana from Waste Not....
Totally. The only problem I have with the GR deck is that almost every card is rare. Caryatid, Courser, Stormbreath, this, Polukranos, Xenagos... And it still won't be the best deck, probably. And if it does become the best deck then those cards may get more expansive still. Ugh. Magic...
I think this is my favorite Soul out of the group! That's obviously before testing though. The stats and First Strike is great as that makes it the champion of fatties (at least in standard). And the repeatable burn is great even at such a high cost and if you opponent manages to answer it you still have the last ability looming over their life total. But the best way to think about this card it that it can easily deal 6-12 damage a turn! That's value!

Elvish Mystic - > Caryatid - > Poly K - > Stormbreath - > Shandalar
