Anyone else think that URw instant/sorcery synergy could make a deck. At the very least I love this guy with young pyromancer.

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.

If you want Bestow costs to go down, run Hero of Ioas. Admittingly, thurmatage is stronger, but they are completely different cards for different decks.

The blue is going strong in this set and is possible going to match the current Black Devotion deck by using something to kill all the rats that will feed themerchant of asphodel.
This card is not only a strong blue creature that works fine with almost any combination but also a gate for new gates that focus on removals and evasion spells. There are already some ideas on one of the blogs in Dailymtg.com but also here in this thread lies a lot of uses not only in standard but very probably in modern.
Makes Frost Breath, Repel the Darkness pretty decent spells if you got multiple targets. Interesting card. Kinda makes these overcosted instant/sorceries make a little sense that are appearing in Theros.

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.
since stuff with X in the cost and then state x target creatures i think you still have to pay X as you have to declare targets etc at that point. so i dont think he works quite as well as people think.
however he does work really well with split cards, and strive cards
He works fine with X spells. You declare the X cost and the number of targets (which is when this triggers), then you pay the mana, then it goes on the stack, then priority shifts to the other player, then it resolves when it is the on the stack.
Thaumaturge triggers when the costs and targets are declared, before you actually pay the mana.
Gridlock and Glimpse the Sun God (or Aurelia's Fury, but that requires WUR) both become extremely cheap ways to tap all of your opponent's creatures. It can even be used after attacks are declared but before blocks to tap down opponents and trigger all your heroic creatures for a big swing.
This is what I was just thinking, is that OP or what?? I'm building this deck. UWx aggro? Or maybe Blue Devo-Master of Waves splash white? Council of the Absolute targeting Launch the Fleet?
I find it funny that nobody brings up how solid this is with Prophetic Flamespeaker. Lower the cards that target him to help get value, and then lower the cards you get from Flamespeaker to kill creatures. Seems like a solid game plan to me. I'm planning on running them both alongside Nivix Cyclops.

I'm planning on running some sort of Izzet burn deck with him.
Battlefield thaumaturge doesn't work with D-sphere. Battlefield thaumaturge doesn't combo with satyr firedancer. Satyr firedancer wants you to send your burn at your opponent to copy the damage and send it to creatures. Thaumaturge doesn't reduce the cost if it is targeting players. They do both have synergy with burn though so....

He doesn't combo with Detention Sphere. It doesn't target whilst on the stack. Satyr Firedancer, Young Pyromancer, and Guttersnipe have no direct synergy with him either.
Could you please elaborate as to why you believe he synergizes well with these cards?
As of now you're simply describing him as a worse Goblin electromancer.

Would Dark Confidant still be good if he punched you in the face for 5 damage a turn?
1. On Detention Sphere, I guess for some reason I was thinking of the interaction between DSphere and tokens (namely Curse of the Swine), and others as well. For some reason I reduced it in cost as well.
2. For burn, I mostly meant synergistic in general, not in specific. Synergistic to the strategy, in other words. With Satyr Firedrinker the two cards merely facilitate the same role (increasing efficiency), but that is not necessarily a bad thing because having 8 such cards is better than having 4. Same for Goblin Electromancer. Young Pyromancer and Guttersnipe actually do benefit from cheaper spells.
3. Yes, he is mostly a less versatile Goblin Electromancer. However, he has several important advantages. #1, he can go hexproof himself (though a burn deck probably can't make use of that with his body). #2, he facilitates certain cards better (Aurelia's Fury).
It is also important to note that Goblin Electromancer and he can both be used at the same time, instead of as an either/or situation. That was actually how I was constructing my deck. One of the Nivmagus 1-drops, the synergistic 2 drops, and either Guttersnipe or Prophetic Flamespeaker (card advantage). The idea was to use burn spells to keep the field clear and use the excess on the player. He may work better in a Dimir or Azorius shell, but that wouldn't have the same synergies.
I'm surprised no one has thought of comboing this guy with Nivmagus yet.
Your Battlefield Thaumaturge is being threatened? Cast one of your cheap burn spells on it, then eat the burn spell with Nivmagus Elemental. Your Thaumaturge will be Hexproofed, and your Elemental will get the pump.

No. When you fuse it's one spell and it's -1 for each target.

I think Gods Willing is the best enabler. Really need more instant speed stuff.
