Not an exciting pack. I'm liking Divination. Would give a strong look at the green tribute guy because it's likely we will wheel a green playable here, but I think the players to our left have a chance to be in green as well with some nice role-filling cards being passed.
Divination allows us to only pass the (decent) 2/3 bestow card, otherwise nothing fancy to pass in blue which could help pack two if we end up in blue.
White feels like it will be the strongest color in limited, so taking the Spirit is understandable, but that Brute looks really pretty for limited. The only other card worth considering is the Returned, but the Titan might convince someone to go black ahead of you.

This set has no shortage of big, bad fatties. Returned seems like a really bad first pick, not sure why you would consider it. Spirit is essentially a /31 for 2 CMC (a fine card, but nothing exciting).
The green devotion creature and divination are clearly the top two picks.
The Brute is the most powerful thing in the pack, but like someone else mentioned, fatties aren't typically in short supply in this set. OTOH 2-drops as good as the Returned and the Centaur are much tougher to find.
I would probably go with the Returned, potential to be good on turns 2 or 4, and a quick finisher when combined with an evasive creature or a fast start.

The difference is that unlike a regular 3/1, the returned will swing for a guaranteed 2 life loss. The regular 3/1 will only do that if it swings into an empty board. Then you have the (very reasonable) bestow cost, so you can drop it on any creature and swing, not really caring if the creature dies, because if it does, the returned falls off and you swing with it the next turn, basically being an all but guaranteed 4 life loss (and more if it or the bestowed survives for more than one swing), which can be very valuable for stalled board states.
And hey, if you want to go with the old "dies to removal" argument, if they want to use a removal spell on it, its a removal spell not being used on one of your fatties.
That said, The brute is my pick for this pack. The returned is my second pick, but the brute looks like it has a higher damage potential.
I find it funny that Eye Gouge and the Brute are in the same pack, lol.
That being said, the Brute. I just really like it for some reason, and he's a very solid fatty. He's aggressively costed for being an uncommon and red (5/5 Trample/Haste for 6 or 8/8 Trample for 6 is very nice.) Returned and Spirit are solid, too.
nessian is very good, it either blows up a land which is great or is a 6/6 for 5 also amazing.
but my pick is spiteful returned because big dudes are more common and less of a chance we will compete with someone for green(that enchantment is nuts).
nyxborn triton is also very good, both modes are respectable, and divination won't get picked early I suspect.
My first pick would be Spirit if I was at the same table as the people first picking Divination. Otherwise, I'd first pick either the green Tribute guy or the Returned Bestow guy.
In the same way you can tell someone is from the XVIII century because he is arroused by ankles, you can tell someone is from USA because he feels nipples disturbing.
I think the green uncommon looks really good in an aggressive deck, where your opponent probably doesn't want you having either a 6/6 for 5 or a bad acidic slime; but gods help you if your opponent has you on the defensive.
I think Returned can kill people fast if you've got some evasion, but it's not for every deck.
Brute seems like the safest card to go with because it's just always good. I don't have to commit to any particular strategy, I just continue taking cards in this color and I should be fine.
Thunder Brute. It has the most raw power in the pack, and it doesn't ask much as far as needing to be in a certain archetype to be good. Two red mana symbols is a little committing to red, but it's not like I'm married to my first pick anyway. If I am playing any kind of red deck I'll be happy to have this guy.
Although on paper Thunder Brute looks pretty good, I will have to wait and see how effective he is in action.
I know it's really beating a dead horse at this point to mention the 'punisher' aspect, but well what you really want out of a big haste-y guy in limited is for him to come out and close the game out by surprise. If you need to win that turn, he won't be able to.
Then again, if you aren't in a situation where you need him to have haste, then he should be pretty solid. I'll have to wait and see how he pans out. I'd probably pick him at this point.
The Brute is a very good card, and an above average finisher. That said, it does cost 6 mana.
The pick here (as with the other pack) should be Spiteful Returned. It is one of the best uncommons in the set, and is first pickable over a decent amount of the removal.
Pretty good on turn 2. VERY good on turn 4 or later. Hard to beat that kind of value.
Picking the Brute isn't necessarily a mistake though. It really depends on how the finishers end up looking in the draft. Though, I'd argue that Spiteful Returned actually is *also* a finisher in that his damage is essentially unblockable. And due to the lower casting cost he'll get into play more often.
First off-- I love these threads. Secondly-- Returned for sure. That card has amazing value in Limited and is useful from turn 2 to the end of the game. It's inherently resilient to removal (as all Bestow creatures are) and starts affecting the board from the turn it hits.
Brute and Returned are both awesome picks, but I went with the Spirit---white is just such a good color (good heroic, good evasion, and solid removal), esp. in BNG, and blue is popular, so being able to hose any draw spells (Thassa's Emissary, anyone?) they might have could be key.
There is more enchantment hate in BNG, so that's a consideration on both Returned and Spirit---but for the Brute there's also an Eye Gouge in the same pack plus his punisher aspect, so a little bit of a wash there.

that's not what happened at all. kamahl stabbed phage, akroma, and some old lady and they became korona. then korona got stabbed by her "prophets" and kamahl got drunk with a mutant centaur

Most likely they will not be prepared for an 8/8 so will let you have haste.
