This card looks like a very powerful EDH general. I imagine a creature-less EDH beatdown deck made with him will be viable; however, recovering from his removal will be difficult. I already have a deck in mind that uses him filled with Armageddon cards and anthem effects such as Honor of the Pure and Coat of Arms.
very powerful considering it is a 4/5 blocker turn three or their four which really hinders some aggro decks (which will have trouble dealing with him since he is a 3/4). This guy is definitely going to be worth something and will be played left and right in standard, EDH, and possibly modern. Chase mythic for sure.
I'm trying to think of a good way to build him in Commander. I really want him to be best buddies with Raksha Golden Cub, and so maybe a Cat Tribal deck with some Soldier Tribal too?
Heck, I'd probably throw this guy into nearly any deck I own that also happens to have a few Plains. He's just all-around good.
OMG, OMG!
Is this card good? If so, why?
The second coming of Hero of Bladehold!
Behold the new Voice of Resurgence!
Start saving up to be able to buy a play-set of this!
etc.
Good, definitely, having 4 in adeck, I'll look into it, the legendary status hurts it a lot more meaning that multiples copies will not benefit you and will just be dead draw. But I think 3 should be the right number for this since you want to drop this by turn 3.
#1 - What's the dumbest idea you ever had?
#2 - 15/15 for 15?
#1 - Make it dumber
#2 - Give it protection from removal and counter?
#1 - DUMBER!
#2 - Add Timewalk?
#1 - DAMN IT MAN, I SAID DUMB!! DUMB !!!
#2 - It destroys everything when it attacks.... And wait, I have a friend who plays mill decks... I want to beat him too.
#1 - Excellent! Recess is over, go back and learn sex-ed with the other 6th graders.
This card is insane. He's going to annoy everyone who isn't playing him until he rotates out.

Some facts of magic:
-Terror is an emotion which, when experienced, results in death.
-The pox was a disease notorious for having killed one-third, rounded up, of Europe’s population. Smallpox, on the other hand, killed only a single person.
-A person riding a horse cannot be stopped by foot soldiers, large animals, walls, archers, or even catapults.
This card is a beast. Although the 3-drop slot is quite filled for white, with enough support for white with some lower drops, mono white devotion could be a thing. Maybe. This card far from enables such a thing, but it sure doesn't hurt.
I see this card finding a home in at least 50% of any deck that run white. Which makes me so sad because I want a playset of these and now it'll be a 20-30 dollar card. D: What makes me even sadder is I run GW aggro, and this plus Voice is really gonna shoot up the price of the deck. I never thought I'd complain a card is too good!

You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
Somehow I don't believe he'll help to trigger battalion?
Only helps set it up.
I can see a WW deck running this at the top of the curve, as it can easily get out of hand without any help. Once you factor support like Brave the Elements, and Spear, you can really stretch the value.

"If you don't wear your seatbelt, the police will shoot you in the head."
- To my youngest sister when she was 6.
Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.
Hey guys remember the last time a creature costed three mana, could take over the game largely by itself and didn't die to removal was like? Yeah, it was when Geist of Saint Traft was at the other side of the table crushing your life total to bits and you cursed Wizards for the power creep. It is good, as far the health of a format is concerned, that the cat king does, in fact, dies to removal, and even then, it is not all of them.
Somehow I don't believe he'll help to trigger battalion?
Well, the token he generates doesn't trigger battalion becaused technically it doesn't attack, it's put onto the battlefield attacking (which is not the same as being declared as an attacker).
However, he helps triggering battalion in the same sense Precinct Captain does (that is, putting extra bodies in play helps avoiding 1x1 removal turning off your battalion).
This is insane. Even when he dies to Doom blade, if he attacked once he left a 1/1 behind, which, while not much, is better than a straight 1-for-1 trade, which is good for a 3-drop with a high power/toughnesss.
This will really shine against mono-blue. It's essentially a 4/5 when blocking, which stops anything mono blue can send without devotion, and on offense if they can't block its tokens then he will quickly get out of hand. His tokens trade with Master's tokens as well.
Doom Blade is mostly a SB card anyway since black's prevalence in standard. Brave the Element is pretty good too. Between this, precinct captain which also makes 1/1s, you'll have tons of value to overwhelm opponents.
Oh, he's good. Very good. His 4 toughness is extremely relevant, because it keeps him out of Anger/Strike/Blight range, and lets him trade with Reckoner. If you're playing white weenies, this is the curve spot where your control/midrange opponent might be starting to run out of removal. I expect to see him being played a lot on turn 4 backed by a Gods Willing/Brave the Elements.
People need to stop comparing him to Geist. They don't do the same thing at all, this is not a tempo guy. He's more like a Hero of Bladehold, he's better in a deck with lots of other creatures.

Edit: Actually he isn't..
Daring Skyjek and Boros Elite just got a new friend.
Not completely sold as he has no real evasion except having enough toughness to survive a Lightning Strike or Anger of the Gods.
He doesn't have evasion, but 4 toughness is nice for 3 mana. With one anthem-like effect he's up to 5 toughness, which is crazy.

This card doesn't put white weenie over mono black devotion.
It's fun but it's not broken.
At least Loxodon Smiter is Thoughtseize proof and he swings for 4 on turn 4 too. He isn't making any impact right now as it is.

I mean... mono black devotion is basically the best deck in the format right now, so no surprises there.

Jokes aside, Brimaz is quite the beast, especially with a 3/4 body at 3 CMC.
Ensures steady card drawing with Ephara, God of the Polis.
Could combo with Purphoros, God of the Forge too.

The tokens don't actually "attack" and trigger battalion. They are already attacking when they enter the battlefield.
But he does make a lot of guys, so that's good, right?
All it needed was 3 simple little words. "Protection from black".
Just like Master of Waves gets "Protection from Red" so it can evade lots of removal which makes it a great card.
It's just another card that isn't going to be in a grand prix winning deck.
It will top 8 for sure though, certainly good enough.
The black/white midrange decks with Blood Baron are doing really well as he dodges all the relevant removal.

this guy and boros reckoner, precinct captain..?
oh man, that's just gross. UW tempo could be a thing.
back it up with all the removal/counters and card draw you can feasibly fit into the deck and boof. that's a lot of value dudes.
