This should be very cheap, which means it is going straight into my $50 Patron of the Moon EDH deck. Blue ramp into Trinket Mage fetching this seems very good.

Slowly breaking.
Any more of this, and Team Troll will be more than just a name.
You can use Vorel the Hull Clad on it for example, there are probably more that I'm not even thinking of
Bingo. I play that deck, and this is the perfect gift for it. Everflowing Chalice reaches dumb numbers, producing 10+ mana, in that deck regularly. But the lack of colored mana seriously restricts what can be done with it. So getting a slightly more expensive colored version is fantastic.
Pretty terrible unless you can add counters to it in ways other than paying XXX, then it becomes a combo piece (looking at Mirrodin block charge counter interactions here, and not so much Doubling Season).
Anything that can afford to hardcast more than 1 counter on it probably has all the mana it could want already.
At least the GW god, which has the similar issue of "let's give more mana when we are probably maxed out on what we can cast" has the secondary benefits of deck-thinning and an indestructible creature. I'm sure there's some wonky EDH deck that will consider this thing.

But yeah, it's an interesting card in EDH. Think of it like artifacts like Darksteel Ingot, Coalition Relic, or Chromatic Lantern, only instead of their benefits, it has a large collection of fringe benefits, including:
1) The ability to tutor it with Trinket Mage
2) The ability to cast it for 0 for variousreasons
3) The ability to cast it for 6, 9, 12, or more mana for a larger effect
4) The ability to Proliferate or otherwise counter-manipulate it to increase its potential.

I would only play it in Vorel EDH because it's funny and on-theme and mildly effective.
Beyond that, just play Gilded Lotus and Coalition Relic. Making multiple colored mana is actually quite good and it's pretty rare in a mana-rock, but this just costs too much.
How can something that looks so good, be that bad? My main format is edh and I can't think of any deck that'd use it. Unless theres some serious way to increase its counters, its another wasted rare of this set.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
They should have just made it cost three and tap for one. Literally this card is in no way helpful to anything. I can see it in a deck with huge ramp or a deck that tries to win turn 1 but triple X is just bad. And if it was two X it would still be mediocre.

Coretapper and Energy Chamber are the most obvious choices - I agree that it doesn't seem like a particular powerful combo that you reliably can get working.

If it was XX it would be strictly better than Everflowing Chalice, a card that is already quite good and playable.
What a fun-looking card, but understandably quite bad. It still has its uses, though.
I reckon this is another for those janky Cogs (Trinket Mage, Artificer's Intuition), proliferate, and charge counter decks rather than as a slow-and-steady ramper or mana fixer.
In Oona EDH there is a card called Gemstone Array that is almost universally played in "tuned" builds due to the need to filter infinite colorless mana (usually gained through Power Artifact and Grim Monolith or Basalt Monolith into at least UUUU in order to cast and activate Oona.
This card is superior to Gemstone Array in several ways:
- you can use it to generate infinite Mana with Tidespout Tyrant and Sol Ring / Mana Vault / any (legal) Mox / Mana Crypt / Grim Monolith, and then use it to filter than mana into colored mana if it's colorless
- it is useful outside of "going off" - some Oona builds will use one CMC 3 mana rock (other than Basalt Monolith) like Coalithin Relic or Darksteel Ingot, and this replaces that rock as well as the Array, opening up a slot.
- if you (somehow) get stopped after the combo (maybe they had Time Stop for your Oona and dispel for your single counterspell backup), they now have to kill your combo AND this card in order to stop you from going off again next turn. It's (admittedly slightly) more resilliant.
- it's CMC zero vs CMC 4, so it's MUCH better to draw off Ad Nauseum or Dark Confidant.
I actually designed a very similar to this a while ago when playing Oona becuase I HATEd playing gemstone array. Unfortuately circumstances forced me to sell off most of my collection late last year so I no longer have the cards for Oona, but I'm very happy to see this printing. It's a niche card to be sure but it does what it does better than any other card every printed, without incorporating any form of power creep. That's great design.

The Quote function doesn't work for me on this forum. Sorry for any confusion created.
How is this not an amazing card? Do you know how useful this would be in a deck for all 5 colors, and isn't getting the right land? Or how about ANY deck, just trying to beef up land power? Green decks for instance, or, in fact, any deck involving green, that has hydras? That would beef up their power ALOT

You do realize that Chromatic Lantern is in this format too, right? If you want a mana-fixing, accelerating artifact, Chromatic Lantern also provides one mana of any color for 3, and turns all of your lands rainbow in the process. Casting this for 6 seems extremely rare, and otherwise it's definitely worse than Lantern.

It may not be the best, but now that it's out and I've competed against and seen players using different combos in constructed from BOGS, it's clear a lot of people not only underestimate it, but overlook what you can do with this. If I bring this out turn 3 and play a 4th mana, by turn 4 I already have 7 mana to use for whatever I need. This makes all the difference between victory and defeat! Not to mention I have created countless colorless combos into my decks with this. I find it fun to use and great application. But that's just me!

Oh and whoever said this card only gives you one mana doesn't know how to read cards. This gives you as much mana for one color as you pump charge counters(aka mana) into it.

Actually this is wrong, and it seems like you've been playing the card wrong the entire time. If you pay 3 mana to play this it does not magically move you up to 7 mana on turn 4. I'm actually surprised that any opponent allowed you to do this, since it is an obvious mistake.
If you pay 3 mana to play this, it will have one counter on it, thus it can only grant you one mana. If you pay 6 mana, it will have 2 counters. The reason for this is the XXX mana cost. It requires you to pay 3 (or 1/1/1) to get one counter onto it.
Haha sorry I know this my friend got on this forum and created an account just to post on here to try and argue that because we were talking about it today. He hasn't been playing very long haha he's just pulling your leg!
