Thoughts on this card?
I think it's a very neat card for EDH, I would like to hear the opinions of you guys so I can tell if it's useful or not.
Probably finds a similar use as Everflowing Chalice; those decks slowly increase the counters on it. I think they are mostly casual decks? Anyone see a tournament level deck with Chalice?
I can't see anyone using this in EDH with all the other mana rocks available. It feels like some kind of test in cardboard form: "do you want to sink gratuitous amounts of mana into this or just run a darksteel ingot?" That said, I kinda want to pick up a foil one just for the heck of it. Also, I imagine people will have fun with the XXX cost.

I mean, it's basically Ingot minus indestructibility right when cast at its worse? The upside at least makes it better than Ingot. Although I still don't know if it's better than the other options. I think I'd play Chalice over it if my deck wasn't too color intensive, and basically all 2 CMC mana rocks over it too.
It also would have been better if it cost XX and had Flash. That doesn't mean that it would be a fair card.
What's your point? You think it would have been unfair if it had what I suggested?
It would still be inferior to Dreamstone Hedron. I just took the idea from Mind Stone where a mana rock can turn into card draw. This particular artifact has a proper trade-off. Extreme cost and an additional alstar benefit of card-draw could possibly have turned it valuable for some players.
As it is now I'll stick to my previous statement that it'll be useless unless you can cheese Charge Counters on it.
Ouch. Thats baaaaaad. I mean, manalith was jank and khalni gem was made with landfall in mind. This card is underpowered at 3, pathetic at 6, and a joke at 9.

Pretty bad. It's chromatic lantern that doesn't fix lands, that later becomes a 6 cmc for two mana ramp. Scaling is nice, but not when it is horrible at all levels of scaling. Everflowing Chalice is better in decks that need a huge load of mana, and this isn't very helpful fixing. Unplayable except limited, and weak there
At the cusp of being Standard playable (if a deck wanted this effect, and right now Chromatic Lantern is a better option), but it doesn't get there. Decent in Limited depending what archetype you are in: in most control builds (UB, GB), this is worth playing. It'll fix your mana and provide ramp, which are both things slow, ponderous decks enjoy.
Doesn't EDH prefer Coalition Relic/Gilded Lotus/Everflowing Chalice/Chromatic Lantern/Manalith? This seems like the worst of all worlds.
It goes right into counter-themed EDH decks, as another Everflowing Chalice that produces colored mana. Gotta love Proliferating with that kind of stuff out.
You can use Vorel the Hull Clad on it for example, there are probably more that I'm not even thinking of
Outside of a doubling/adding counters scenario, this is one of the worst mana artifacts I can think of, but it would be pretty cool in a fun plays-with-counters deck. Nothing that couldn't already be done with Everflowing Chalice, but some nice redundancy and color fixing.
Well, I hear all of you on its limitations, but it can have some work around, such adding charge counters (as mentioned earlier) & anything that can reduce the costs of artifacts. It is fun jank like this that I like... Sure, i'll up a place set for $2.00.
Well this is going straight into my EDH combo decks as a way to filter all the easy infinite colorless mana engines into colored mana (awkwardly harder to do in Oona and Maralen than you'd think). Best part is trinket mage can grab it mid combo and it has CMC 0 for adnaseum. Just in time for the FTV:20 EDH tournament.

My point was its easy to make cards better than they are, but that doesn't mean that change is good for a metagame. You did 0 testing with this card, Wizards has tested it for ~1 year. Every single time a new card gets spoiled, someone comes along and says it would be better if... Of course it would be. And yes, I do think what you put would be overpowered with Tron in Modern and Nykthos in Standard.

Tron might find use for it, dunno.
Also... The cost to play it... Does this card have the most X's in it's cost ever!?
EDIT: //gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?output=spoiler&method=visual&action=advanced&mana=|~[X">|~[XX]|~[XXX]|~[XXXX]|~[XXXXX]"]I couldn't find any, and I went up to 5 X's.

"T, Sacrifice ~: Draw cards equal to number of Charge Counters on ~."
it would have been a ton better. Still janky but it would appeal to EDH in major leagues and possibly run in Tron for additional card-draw.
It also would have been better if it cost XX and had Flash. That doesn't mean that it would be a fair card.

But at 0 with an Energy Chamber or Vedalken Infuser...
They're saving the XXXX artifact for the australia themed block
This can be crazy ramp in the right situation

Personally, I'll be running it with Coretapper, to jump from 2 to 6 mana.
Why would you ever run Manalith over this? I can see some merit to saying Darksteel Ingot (not that I would agree), but Manalith makes no sense.
