I personally love it. I love goofy "infect-like" creatures. where you can hit it with 2 pump spells and it's enough to end the game. Sure it "dies to removal" and all that usual rot, I get that. But sometimes it doesn't. I think with just a lil common sense most people could figure out when a good time is to try and push for the big swing.
Too bad we don't have Might Of Oaks in standard.......
Wow. Maybe I'm the only person who knows what insular means.
No, most new sets have cards that are so obvious in design that they might as well all come in pre-constructed decks (Infect, graveyard stuff of Innistrad). Or they have things like Transform or Evolve that just aren't interesting outside the block they were printed.
They've overpowered creatures and completely cut the power of sorceries, instants, and artifacts (and admitted that) and all but killed combo decks in standard. Deck building isn't creative anymore, it's about turning dudes sideways or casting blue instants.
In case you hadn't noticed, attendance isn't up because of new sets, it's up because they released a digital game on X-Box, PS3 and Steam and brought the brand to a whole new audience. If you look at those numbers you'll find a not so shocking correlation between the release of the digital game with the increase in paper players. Hell, some of you are probably here because of that game.
It's only been a couple of years since they brought all of those new players and they have given us a new pseudo eternal format that's fairly competitive as well. I think they're doing the right thing and slowly going to make it more and more complex again to keep as many of the new players as possible. It becoming more popular is what will keep it alive.
I mean. Maybe my card evaluation is awful but something about casting this on 2 and then playing unflinching courage and swinging for 10 lifelink trample rustles my jimmies.
Drop him T3. Put a Madcap Skills and Titan's Strength on him T4 and win.
2/2 becomes a 6/3 and then becomes a 10/4 doublestriker.
This is not an unrealistic magical christmasland scenario. He's not as useful as a Silverblade Paladin but he's still not too shabby either. I think some people come on MTGS to compete with others as to how jaded they are. People complained about Silverblade Paladin and I've lost count of how many times that wee knight has won games for me, he's great. I'm sure that Fabled Hero's going to be as much of a removal target as SP. No-ones going to look across the board and say "Oh, it's only a Fabled Hero. What a loser my opponent must be to have that in their decks. Wake me up when there's something worth Abrupt Decaying."
