A combat trick that stays as an aura that then stays as a creature, or can just be cast as an aura or creature. Possible 3 for 1, I will be surprised if this doesn't see a fair amount of play.
By far the best Bestow creature yet, still hoping for a white 2-drop with Bestow 4, but it is worth noting that increasing you devotion by 2 at instant can matter. Say you have out Nylea and a small creature, opponent attacks with 2 strong midrange creatures, you play this on the small creature to create a trade, while Nylea becomes a creature to kill their other, then you untap with Nylea and a 4/2. Best case scenario, but is worth remembering when attacking into a god (especially Kruphix later in the block), that flash can make them creatures suddenly.
This is the only bestow with a decent body, a 4/2 flash is quite good, and Bestow is always a 2-for-1 when you want it. I'm liking these creatures that can be used early but become more powerful later to stay relevant topdecks(the 3 good monstrous cards revealed so far are also good examples). They allow a deck with a decent amount of ramp to still have strong uses for their mana without having to play too many expensive creatures that get you killed early.
Seems really strong against wrath effects, as both methods of casting do really good work there.
What I like is that he curves nicely with mana dorks and flash means you get the information advantage. If they don't play a dude you can drop him EOT and smash for 4 on your turn 3. If they do play something that trades well with a 4/2 then you have the option to wait and make him a late game value card.
Boon Satyr has different angles to it which is what I love about it. You can Flash it in to surprise block, or just EoT play it for aggressive beats. Or, once you hit five mana, suddenly one of your attackers gets +4/+2 and unless countered, you're at least getting a 4/2 while your opponent is deciding how to respond to it.
Whether or not it worked does not validate the play. That's hindsight probability. Let's say I offered you a bet -- I'm going to flip a coin and if it's heads, I'll give you 1 dollar but if it's tails, you'll give me 2 dollars. This is obviously a terrible bet for you. Accepting it is a bad decision. You can't justify it afterwards by arguing that you won the flip, therefore you made the right decision.
I was really going to lament the absence of Wolfir Avenger. Then this shows up. I am not sad anymore, even though I think the Avenger is slightly better.
Lol Cloudgoat Ranger and Kitchen Finks were very powerful, constructed-worthy, and limited first-picks. They were uncommon, and deservedly felt so.
Cloudgoat Ranger could have been Rare at the time and it would have been totally fine. It was a better Limited card than most of the Rares in the set, to be sure.
There's considerations beyond the card's power and complexity that help determine rarity. Why is this so hard for people to understand? Does no one play Limited any more?
This card is great, all kinds of cards in Theros that are standard playable but not meta-warping and all kinda of cards that have lots of subtle options and abilities that can help generate card advantage but not without effort (Looking at you, Innistrad block and Thragtusk). - add scry to the mix and mana bases that will actually take effort and Theros is shaping up to be a standard for the skilled players.
It is sad that people cry when they see a lack of thought-free bombs not realizing that it leads to a better format. People also are comparing cards too much to the overpowered creatures of the last couple standards.
It is also sad that people can't see that this card is plenty sweet and will see standard and is plenty deserving of being rare.
It also needs to be considered that cards in this set will not have to compete with Innistrad block and Thragtusk in Standard.
How many 3 drop dudes in standard can people think of that are better than this guy?
Boros Reckoner, Loxodon Smiter, what else? And both of those are debatable.
This guy is like Kavu Titan meets Wolfir Silverheart. I would say he is like a better, more resilient, more versatile Wolfir Silverheart.
You get the buff at instant speed, a bit less on toughness (barely relevant), and you trade off on possibly getting 2 big guys for the resilience to removal (imo much better).
And after all that, you have the option of playing him as dude on 3, and hes an instant so he can be pseudo removal or follow up to a sweeper.
Just so many options with this guy. People need to remember that no one would have maindecked Fire and no one would have played Ice at all- but look at Fire/Ice and how awesome it is.
Wait... fleecemane lion is spoiled and everyone and their dog has instant speed removal to play in response to its monstrous. But now all of that removal has gone missing for 5cc combat tricks?
It is good that the satyr is good in all these scenarios, but it's still only good in scenarios. I'd rather have the card that is good by itself.
Telastyn, you must not have played this game long- Having options is everything, and this guy is efficient at everything he does.
This guy has much more opportunity to swing a game than Fleecemane Lion (since this guy is a surprise with resilience and can create card advantagee and fleecemane is telegraphed)
What does 'good in scenarios' even mean? Isn't anything that could happen a scenario?
This guy is a much better Wolfir Silverheart, in that it is an instant and can also be played as a removal spell or instant speed dude for 3 mana, with a pretty efficient rate to begin with, while also being resilient to mass removal.
What is funny is all the people who think this guy sucks were probably all over Silverheart, cuz OMFG 8/8s!!!!

Luckily, you can't get 2 for 1ed with bestow creatures.
card is definitely good for the multiple ways it can be played. "removal", "giant growth", creature, devotion, and an enchantment all at a fair cost. seems great against control and midrange, has a good body. i will be trying this guy out.
I think this is on par with Silverheart at best. Flash doesn't mean much when you have to telegraph its play. Attacking with meh dudes trolling for a block is obvious. A green mage leaving mana open (especially 5, since that's a lot of mana and a guy) is pretty obvious.
It's a wolfir avenger that is better in some scenarios ("bloodrushing" damage through) and worse in others (block, regen vs gods and other nasties). The avenger was an okay card that saw some standard play, and so will this. It's not some awesome auto-include for decks with green.

If we can peg it somewhere between Silverheart and Avenger...then I think it is safe to call it a very good card.
Don't most people play most non-haste creatures in their 2nd main phase anyway? - So I don't think it is that obvious...
This. Someone attacking you with their mana open is completely normal. Now if he is attacking with an obviously weak creature, how do you react? Let it go through and take a ton of damage if he has a pump up? Or sacrifice a creature?
That's the kind of decision that make the game more interesting.
Some people need to understand WHY this card is good. It's value and versatility. It oozes out of its ears.
1) He can be a surprise blocker to be removal or save your life but be able to tempt the other player to swing in so you can get through next turn without needing to worry about blocks as much.
2) He is easily played turn two for a very aggressive play.
3) He is an instant permanent pump spell (a rare thing to see), albeit expensive. (Whether expensive or not, it's just another option that makes this card so powerful)
4) He may be an aura, but he cannot cause you to two for one yourself.
5) His aura can get through board wipes.
AAAAANYWAY. Please realize that if they were to print a 3GG instant speed aura that gave +4/+2, it would be uncommon. Now realize that this is leagues better for the friggin reasons above. Please accept that it is rare worthy and stop being stubborn. Don't argue "well kitchen was uncommon" Yeah well that was a different format and this card is more powerful in limited. Could you imagine if we had these running around as uncommons in draft? 2-3 in a green deck which means potentially gaining you 4-6 2 for 1s? Like fo rizzles.

"I didn't go wow so it shouldn't be a rare" seems to be the driving force
This card is deceptive, it's everything Green wants

It's just another variant of green Doom Blade, or the original Briarhorn. Just more versatile.
