Way over costed to see standard play without some ramp. Maybe a Junk card finisher as a 1-2 of? Commander will love it as another baldy destroy angel. A 5/5 seems way to small for the cmc as well.

Well, there goes the card that stabilizes the board immediately (unless you're very low on life). That, in itself, might be worth something. Time will tell.
Legacy Reanimator plays Angel of Despair and can never hardcast it. It's going to swap out all its AoD's for Ashen Rider because Ashen Rider exiles and can potentially boot two permanents.
Legacy Dredge also sometimes runs AoD as a Dread Return target, and being able to boot two permanents with Ashen Rider in conjunction with Cabal Therapy is a very good gravy train.
Why is this mythic? Its terrible! 8 mana seriously? Worse...it requires heavy orzohz commitment. True...its brutal once down...but so is Nicol Bolas...a good target for my legacy recursion deck...and thats it. That being said...would be nice to play with venser, the sojourner but it will never hit the board in competitive play except possibly draft. Worst mythic of the set.

You're asking why is a 5/5 flyer that exiles permanents when it enters the battlefield and when it does Mythic? If you can't understand why I don't think I can help you.
Wow, this card is seriously awesome! For one more mana over angel of despair, it exiles a permanent, rather than merely destroying it, and the ability triggers twice! My only complaint about it is that I do believe that it should have been a 6/6 for that mana cost, for it still would have been balanced, even with that powerful ability.
I do wish to put this card into my black/blue/white EDH deck, which already contains angel of despair, but I am far too fond of that card to remove it, so could I perhaps replace divinity of pride with ashen rider? The archon costs 3 mana more, and does not have lifelink, but its triggered ability certainly is more appealing than is the static ability of the divinity, in my mind.

EDH will obviously love this.
In draft this thing will swagger so hard.
I believe that legacy dredge will want this even more than Woodfall Primus, and obviously Angel of Despair.
As for standard, this thing will be brutal. So far, this card is the main reason that I think reanimator will be amazing this coming season. There will probably be more graveyard interaction and self mill cards coming in the spoilers and throughout the block. This will just be amazing in an Aristocrats Reanimator type dealio. It may be christmas landy, but just imagine this, a Cartel Aristocrat, and a Gray Merchant of Asphodel before board wipe and you Rescue from the Underworld. AMAZING SWAG
This card is really a Timmy/Johnny card with a little bit of love for Spike. I mean, even though it says "die" instead of "leaves the battlefield", the second trigger is pure gravy.
Also, I wouldn't say that this card is strictly better than Angel of Despair. It might as well be, but certain contexts will make sending a permanent to a graveyard better. Also, the Angel costs one less. Not like many people actually hardcast that one though.
Usually, and specially when you don't want to see that permanent again, exiling it is much more effective than destroying it.
The only place this could be different is in a Reanimator Legacy mirror, when you want to reanimate Angel of Despair, kill the opponent's creature, and then use another reanimation to get it for you.
That won't happen usually.
And anyway, the formats where you're gonna hardcast this (commander, mainly), are happier with this guy because:
-it deals with gods and other indestructible stuff
-it works when it dies too.
This guy will be an all-star in karador decks with sacrifice outlets.
Oh yeah, I'm not arguing with that at all. Like I said, it might as well be strictly better, but I don't think Angel of Despair is obsolete because of this card.
This card is already one of my favorite cards in the set, mainly because I just love reanimator strategies and I greatly enjoy effects that destroy or exile lands. I'm really surprised about the lack of "non-land" on this puppy.
Might as well be playing AoS, but it's another target for reanimator if they print another unburial rites like card.
Also probably good in EDH.
For standard: Maybe a deck with Crypt Ghast? Maybe a Junk ramp deck? Maybe reanimator will work somehow?
Maybe modern and legacy only...
Note the keyword "Dies." I don't see this card in modern or legacy because of path/swords.
I can see the same thing being done in a mirror.
Player one: Ashen Rider exiling X
Player two: Ashen Rider exiling Ashen Rider.

Christmasland aside, it's rather expensive. Still, Crypt Ghast and Liliana of the Dark Realms could help it in that regard.
