I don't care if Ancient is weak to removal, the sheer force of an early (or hasty) 7/7 is too much to deny. Doesn't help that the pack is pretty weak, with only Condor really being close.

The RRR sort of pigeon holes you into mono red almost
I would go with Master of Diversion. Removing a blocker is pretty good, there's nothing else that really stands out. Condor is good, so is Advocate, but I'd pick Master.
Hard to decide between mark of the vampire, trained condor, and shivs embrace. I went with shivs because wheeling awaken the ancient would be nice. I doubt any decent player will pick it with no other red coming.
Swinging with a 7/7 on turn 5 is crazy in limited, as a top deck or in your starting hand it's still good. Good early pick so you can plan for the cost.
master of diversion. realistically, to anyone who is picking Awaken, its probably going to be turn 5 or 6 before you can even play it if you are in a balanced 2-color deck. its bomby sure, but it seems realy average outside of mono-red, and going mono for it is too limiting, IMO
Master of Diversion, the rare, and the blue flier all seem defensible.
Realistically, you won't be curving into something that costs RRR, but I'd still be satisfied with a 7/7 haste on turn six or seven to close out the game. The speed and relative amount of removal in the format will be a huge factor in determining whether this is a bomb or not.
Master of Diversion seems fine too. It's not quite as good as Hazda Snare Squad because almost anything trades with it, but the effect is still strong.
I pick the Condor, though, because I have a strong personal preference for a UW skies, and it's not a terribly risky move to move in on that deck when I know nothing about the format yet.
I'd probably take the Trained Condor and hope to wheel the Disperse. It would tear me apart to pass the Master of Diversion here, though.
Awaken the Ancient seems like too much of a glass cannon to me, and a very constricting one at that. I don't often have four of one land type on the field by turn five in limited matches, and when I do, I'm usually in trouble.

Easily splashable and nothing to scoff at even on it's own

Not an ideal first pick I'd argue
When Fnord does these it's always under the assumption that this is first pack and first pick
Awaken the Ancient is not that great, not sure why so many people are taking it. It's a 5 mana 7/7 with haste. RRR is steep.

As it is, I pick Master of Diversion.

Not knowing the full spread of red, I'm not willing to first pick a 1RRR 5-drop yet.
