You can get yourself in range of burn sure, but what I'm saying is you can always cast it for any amount if your life is > 3, because you can float the mana and revelation in response to the burning earth triggers.

Didn't think about it that way so i guess you're right. Also noticed i did some math wrong in my previous comment. However it doesn't stop how powerful this effect is compared to mana barbs since you can make this easily one sided and I can see this being played over hellrider for the time hellrider has left simply because this will stay in play and is a lot harder to remove than hellrider is.
Terrible. This is what's at the top of your curve? Not a chance. Something that's basically a strict sideboard card needs to cost like 2cc to even see any fringe play.
For any deck running Red, this does seem a terrific waste of 4 mana, considering by turn 6/7 most matches are finishing up.
So, you're spending 4 mana to do as much damage, or more, than a hellrider (assuming the hellrider gets killed within one turn, but this doesn't since it's an enchantment) and this is a waste? The decks that end the game before turn 7, you aren't bringing this in against most likely. Granted, I'd rather have manabarbs, but this is nearly the exact same thing, especially in this meta of 0-2 basic land decks.
You know the card is good when 1/3 of the people say its underpowered, 1/3 say its just right, and the other 1/3 say its overpowered.

Actually it's even better in the right matchup
This is a Sideboard card through and through
It's just a very nice, simple and potentially devastating one
I'm not sure how anyone can be unhappy about this card
In Standard this card basically dominates control/midrange decks, in a way that Manabarbs did a few years ago. I don't know why people think this is a bad card. No one runs Basic Lands in their decks for now.
This is card is unplayable. Why would I run an enchantment, that comes into play turn 4 and dont even do anything right ahead lol? What do you people expect it to do turn five 2 damage for 4 mana?
If all it does turn 5 is 2 damage, then that means your opponent is only casting one of his spells, which is exactly what a deck running this card would want. One-sided Mana Barbs is a potent effect.
This card says, "I'll keep casting my spells, and you'll take damage if you want to do the same." Where is the issue?
Pretty terrible design. It seems made for mono-red, but is costed too steeply for the only kinds of mono-red decks that ever seem to pop up: some flavor of RDW or Sligh. It's far too ineffectual for Modern as well.
Wizards needs to realize that they can print very strong, narrow answers without necessarily damning that which they are attempting to answer to extinction. Look at the incredible graveyard hate that has been printed as of late: Cage, Rest in Peace, etc. None of those have obliterated graveyard strategies...they still keep marching on. WotC could easily print strong non-basic hate, like a Red Sinkhole restricted to non-basics and everything would be fine. As time has shown, narrow answers, regardless of how powerful they are, are not enough to wipe out the use of the "questions".
I agree on the "swing and a miss" design. This is one of those types of designs where you either get cards that are amazing or unplayable.
If it cost 2 mana, it would have been amazing. If it was 4 mana and destroyed a non basic when you tapped it, it would have been amazing. 4 mana for 1 damage is firmly on the unplayable side.
They should have just went with a Price of Progress reprint. Standard and Modern could both really use that card.
How thick are you people that keep saying Standard needs Price of Progress? Ravnica was designed to be played as a multi-colored environment, and they did a good job at it. There is no 5 color good stuff decks and there is barely any 4 color decks. Freaking deal with it. I like playing 3+ color decks, but I don't ***** an whine when mono/dual color decks are the top decks.

Decks are moving in the 4 color direction already. And format diversity is a good thing. They've printed hate for pretty much every top card in the format except Thragtusk and shocks.
Price of Progress would make Mono Red a firmly playable archetype in standard, and adding more viable decks to the meta is IMO a good thing.
In Modern it would make RDW a more solid choice as well as beef up UR Delver lists.
Basically it would make some things better but not invalidate anything. I that's a fair argument to make for adding a card to a formats card pool.

I'f I'm playing mom-red, I'd still prefer manabarbs because I don't need as much mana as my opponents do, typically.

4 cost =/= 5cost or X cost, but alright...
Anyway, I think this card is great because it somewhat relegates the downside that Mana Barbs had.
I could find some use for this in Modern, actually. Ghostly Prison, Ensnaring Bridge, Ajani Vengeant, and like... Assemble the Legion.
I'm a fan.
Although, its probably strictly sideboard or even not playable in Standard. Unless a cool lockdown or enchantment control becomes a thing.
