Yeah that's what I was thinking, this plus Legion's Initiative can be pretty silly. In standard though this card probably won't get much play at least until Hellrider rotates out. Even then it's still competing with Rubblebelt Raiders and Exava as future aggro 4 drops of choice.

Being that this is the combination that survives rotation I like this application the best. Not to mention the great synergy with Molten Birth. Until rotation, though, I still think Hellrider is the better 4-drop, but this guy makes the competition pretty tough.

Mana in Standard is probably good enough that someone will try a deck that casts this guy on turn 4 then Lingering Souls with flashback on turn 5. Of course that deck will last only 3 months before rotation.

After that, the card is just hosed too hard by Supreme Verdict to be playable, IMO. It sucks as your first play after a Verdict as it does nothing on the turn you play it, and as a last card before Verdict, it's no Falkenrath Aristocrat or Hellrider or even Thundermaw Hellkite or Exava.

Scion of Vitu Ghazi and Wrecking Ogre hit REALLY REALLY HARD if you have a Battledriver out, and they are right on curve, and they both survive rotation.

Armada Wurm is a bit higher, but pretty much guarantees death for the opponent.

Captain of the Watch could provide a few lolz for the short time they're in Standard together

I think of it as a Fervor that comes with a 3/3 body and besides haste gives +2/+0.... Where is the drawback again?
Any creature that comes with friends has great synergy with this guy. Before they rotate, Huntmaster of the Fells, the above mentioned and all the undying have great synergy.

No one has mentioned these double-strikers... Markov Blademaster, Boros Charm, Ajani of the Pride, Silverblade Paladin, Savageborn Hydra, and Gisela, Blade of Goldnight. Sure, most of them you'd play before Ogre Battledriver but this gives you the option to hold one back to dissuade your opponent from using up a Supreme Verdict then BAM! 14 surprise damage from Battledriver+Paladin!

For Standard, could something like this work?

Turn 1: Rakdos Cackler
Turn 2: Ash Zealot, swing 4
Turn 3: Hellraiser Goblin, swing 6
Turn 4: Ogre Battledriver, swing 9

Turn 5 could then be:
Thundermaw Hellkite, swing 16
Krenko's Command + overload Dynacharge, swing 27
Goblin Rally, swing 21
Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch + Rakdos Cackler (both unleash), swing 19

This is assuming nothing gets removed, that is. He makes mid or late game weenie drops a lot better for RDW, which is nice.

Going unopposed yes his is a beast. However that will never happen. He falls in the do nothing the turn he resolved category, which Krenko, Mob Boss also suffers from.

However the Ogre could be played 1-2 turns later together with another creature to get something out of his effect. I think he is more of a Naya/Jund Midrange creature, since you could either ramp into him to get his effect out sooner or to get both him and a decent creature out at the same time.

T3 Ogre Battledriver + BTE (chain up to 2) + some 1 or 2 drop creatures.
Just as an example.

As not much of a standard player, I'm looking forward to throwing him into my Kresh EDH deck. Trying to make it more creature heavy, and getting a body with a buff and a haste enabler sounds like a nice addition to me.

This guy's fate will be relative to what happens when Hellrider rotates out. If the game slows down enough, he could see play. He's a great enabler. I just wish he had haste himself.

Goldnight Commander + OB +LI For a final blow
Attended Knight for 7 damage with the ogre in play ( Seller of Songbirds is similar but dealing 6 damage with 3 of that damage with flying)
Azorius Arrester 4 damage + detain a blocker (Azorius Justiciar makes the something similar (1 more creature detained) but two more mana)
Captain of the Watch 17 Damage with OB on the field
Court Street Denizen 4 damage and if you played LI ability then you remove some blockers
Bloodfray Giant with OB on the field its 7 damage with trample
Crossway Vampire 5 Damage with OB and removing an potential blocker ( similars: Fervent Cathar Markov Warlord)
Foundry Champion 6 damage and 2 targeted damage
Kessig Malcontents 5 Damage and 1 Targeted damage
Geist-Honored Monk 12 Damage with OB on the field ( 6 from the tokens) ( Similars: Scion of Vitu-Ghazi
Gore-House Chainwalker 5 Damage with OB on field
Silverblade Paladin can make any creature into threats
Urbis Protector for 9 damage ( 6 evasive)
Chaos Imps for 9 Flying damage

im only interested in combo's that will work post rotation. that said how about Wild Beastmaster

I'm probably echoing many of the sentiments already present in this thread but this guy isn't an aggro (R/x) curve-topper. He doesn't replace Hellrider, Aristocrat and etc. I'm tempted to say he'd find a home in an aggressive Midrange shell but I honestly don't think that will be the case either. His best bet is via tokens or just a deck meant to specifically exploit his ability to the fullest.

There's also a lot of casual/sub par cards being mentioned in this thread. It reminds me of the people who kept rambling off bad Unleash cards when Exava was spoiled. Trying to force on par interactions with sub par cards is bad magics.
