You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
I like it. It seems that it would be sweet in my Venser deck... Play it, name something in your hand then cast that card. Bounce it with Venser to reset the card name. Seems pretty good.
They should really change the definitions of those terms so that such awkward wordings would no longer be necessary.
Agreed, though I'm not sure how they'd get around that. In this case, you would think they could just say "cards you cast", but then that would hurt copies of spells. (A fringe case, I know.)
However just getting more of him will hardly get you ahead in the game: it will set you up nicely if you name the same card a bunch of times (yes, yes Sphinx's Revelation) but you still need to cast it.
Current standard, for UWx control's sideboards, i think post rotation he could make a move to the main board. I like interesting mythics so much more than the format shaping ones, and i do love this guy, people will break him, maybe not in a way that devastates a format but he will be the center piece of decks i believe.
Honestly I feel like this could have been legendary
Not really a complaint but this kind of ability and the name are both very heavy on the flavour
I guess it would have sort of ruined it's utility in the mirror although nothing prevents the opposing player to cast this themselves and name Sphinx's Revelation after you did so yourself (I guess you could respond to it since Revelation is an instant XD)

I lol'd at the Cackling Counterpart/Stolen Identity idea. Against control, you'd name Supreme Verdict, then Azorius Charm, then Terminus, then Planar Cleansing, then Renounce the Guilds, and then you could start naming non-removal spells until you finally die to Restoration Angel.
Seriously though, this is definitely for X spells. I like it's implications for control matchups, as it punishes players for boarding out revelations. The only problem is that control vs control doesn't usually get to a second game.
Certainly makes Aurelia's Fury better, and it can name enchantments and artifacts too... Omniscience faster? Akroma's Memorial on turn 5?
EDIT: Wrong place for rulings questions. It only reduces the casting cost if it includes colorless mana like X,1,2,3,4, etc.
However, if you name something like Mask of Avacyn, the casting cost would become 0.

This guy is spell ramp that doubles as meddling mage. He shines in mirrors, but he's flexible. He's like a mix between oracle of mul daya and meddling mage.

Err... Oracle of Mul Daya? Oracle was very good because it allowed you to play lands from the top of your library, effectively reducing your chances of drawing lands, and this doesn't resemble what this card does. Anyways, the ramp from this guy is pretty limited as it applies to only one card. Love the meddling mage effect though.
Indeed sir lol! Where've you been? I like the idea of naming rewind, playing rewind, untapping 4 lands and playing resto angel, naming another card in your hand, or one of theirs.
What about a tokens list? Name lingering souls, or collective blessing? Hardcasting miracles looks good too, with goblin electromance, a 4-5 mana temporal mastery looks shmexy. American miracles might be a bigger thing now

10/10, I tapped.
I don't see quite why this is a mythic.
Strong in a mirror match obviously
Great throwback too

Cackling Couterpart is awesome in almost every scenario

Which is fine, but I don't see it getting played much in other formats either.

Woah... I actually missed the part about not naming a creature... I guess that explains why people weren't hyping the card as much as I thought...
It's still a good sideboard card for control mirrors, but nothing too crazy.
It would be pretty ridiculous if you could name creatures
Especially in a mirror since it isn't legendary: it could lead to complete lockdown for both players if both get a bunch out! It would be a bit silly

It would have been a more powerful but more expensive Meddling Mage. Now, it's just a less powerful and more expensive Meddling Mage...
Still, I'm sure you could run a deck using those to ramp to an Omniscience or something like that, so I guess that's kinda cool.

It would have to be completly colorless like All is Dust since you still have to pay the color part.
