Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
How about "You may discard your hand, pay 5 life, rip this card, remove 3 digits from any number of target fingers you control, and concede at the end of the next end step rather than pay It Will Go Through!!'s mana cost.
Totally awesome in Limited, and probably just not good enough in Standard; though there is a lot of decent White token generation right now, so maybe it could party with some Lingering Souls and Hellriders and be playable.
I'd play a bear in draft, so that means I'd also play a bear with abilities. The costs aren't great, but fair I guess assuming Boros is going to quickly put a ton of 1/1s on the table. I'd 5-6th pick it. Late game if could help you push through.
The second ability enables Battalion alone. Guild Mage down, play Battalion creature, hasty guy out.
Not for Constructed, obviously. But I like it much better in Limited.
I also like how it actually needs synergy with the guild playstyle/mechanics for the abilities to be good - it has to be placed in an aggressive deck with Battalion cards to get full worth out of it, unlike the RTR guildmages that could just be thrown into any deck in the colors and reasonable power level and you'd get pretty good mileage.
Its the bomb in limited! Dude or beef up is reDONKulous!
In standard, its not...great...but maybe better than first guildmage due to just making the dude with haste.
Can this guy show Skynight Leagionaire where the loin cloths are?

Like all Guildmages...
A good body early drop that only increase his relevance as the games drags = bomby card. With 2+ flyers, his first ability will do a great job. With 6 mana, his a alpha strike on a body that build tokens mean while.
So far his the best guildmage for limited in GTC, meaning his the best cmc < 4 drop.
He won't see any play in std because both his abilities are over costed. Among all guildmages we know, his the weakest in constructed. But i believe he is fringe playable in block constructed.
Fantastic in limited, imo maybe the best limited guildmage yet but I just don't think it can make it in standard. Certainly the weakest GTC guildmage yet for Constructed, though seems to have more potential than any of the RTR guildmages.
For standard, if the 2nd ability created a human soldier, I would at least consider it. As is, the second ability doesn't do much, and the 1st ability requires too much mana to be useful unless you have several guys out. By the time this guy makes an impact, you're either struggling to get the last 5 or so points in after board wipes or you've all but won. In the first case, he could be helpful as a way to use spare mana for tokens or bonus damage. In the second case, it doesn't really matter. All in all, there are very few times I wouldn't rather just have a burn spell or Gather the Townsfolk.
Must say, I do love the art. Oh well, let's just hope the Gruul guildmage is a human shaman with good abilities for my Naya Humans deck.

First pack it's probably 5th-6th pick, but if you pick up a few reasonably aggressive creatures or Battalion creatures, I would be totally willing to take this as early as 3rd pick 2nd pack in a draft(In third pick if I'm lacking finishers this could even be 1st or 2nd in a weak enough pack, though unlikely) It's body is playable for its cost, and it can often win the game on its own by mid-game(t7-8). Considering many Limited games end with you both top-decking with plenty of mana, there will be plenty of games where he churns out a number of tokens before double activating his first ability to swing for the win. Compared to others, one of best in Limited, probably unplayable in Standard.
Such a shame too, Boros is one of my favorite guilds
I do not see the correlation between his abilities and the flame forming around his hand...
Minor pet peeve when the art and abilities don't click together. Other then that, I concur with the limited powerhouse stuff. Reminds me of the GW guild age from the original Rav.
Edit: nevermind, I guess it's the guild symbol represented. Still, doesn't look right
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
I definitely like this card, but each of its abilities are slightly too expensive for me to consider seriously using it; if only each ability cost 1 mana less, I would definitely find it to be much more appealing, especially in the case of the second ability. How is a 1/1 creature, even with an ability, ever worth 4 mana? That does not at all seem to be balanced, in my opinion.

Super synergistic, but I'm not sure how well he does without battalion. With a bunch of battalion creatures he's a great enabler, but on his own he only makes 1/1s and pumps.

"In the beginning, MTG Salvation switched to a new forum format.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
It was at that moment that I realized: I'm kinda just making these things up. We can just write the rules the way we want them to work. People will have fun, and people will get it.
I don't know that he will be an amazing limited bomb. A good synergy with other boros or naya card but i don't think a bomb. From what I"ve seen this limited set will most likely be the fastest one I've ever seen. We only thought Avacyn Restored was a fast limited.
Decent card, and there's the battalion enabler I thought was coming ever since I saw the soldier token spoiled. That being said once again I'm disappointed to say this won't see play in my Boros deck.
I'm kinda disappointed in this one, only because the other 2 seem to have constructed potential instead of limited only. Like all 5 RTR guildmages, he's great in limited but in terms of constructed he's pretty unplayable. Hopefully the last 2 are more competitve.

Really? If I was already in Boros I'd easily take this 1st pick barring any total bombs. Not sure why it's such a stretch, both abilities are incredibly relevant and he's in the class of guildmages that can take over a game by itself. Board stalls are a common occurrence and he breaks them wide open, not to mention making combat hell for your opponent as early as turn 3. The mere threat of the pump ability lets you get through with guys you might not otherwise, giving you value w/o actually needing to tap any mana.
This guy is perhaps slightly weaker than Korozda and Vitu-Ghazi Guildmage, but both of those were easy 1st picks if you were already in their respective guilds, and many times P1P1. The most important ability is his 1st one, because with 6-mana you're giving *all* your guys +2/0 every turn, in a guild whose entire mechanic revolves around having lots of guys. The second ability can produce a chump blocker every turn or in a stalled board, create enough weenies until you can alpha strike using the second ability.
This card is certainly not good enough for constructed, but this talk of "maybe 5th-6th pick" is madness. He's a house in limited and should be treated as such.

I mostly agree with this. The pickability of this seems to compare similarly with most of the other guildmages, and I'd argue that most other guildmages should be picked in the 2nd-5th area. This seems a hair worse than others, but not enough to take it down to 7 pick or lower.
I'm not sure if I'm disappointed or okay with this. Boros Guildmage was closer to what I was hoping this guy would do but ya know, they've obviously already done that. I like what the abilities do but I just don't like the mana cost. If his first ability had only cost 2 mana I'd play it in standard. As it is his abilities aren't even as good as Glorious Charge or Thatcher Revolt (which is at least good with Champion of the Parish, Unruly Mob, Village Cannibals, Blood Artist, or Goldnight Commander).
I do realize that its the whole "repeatable ability on a stick" tax but at least you can see where I'm coming from.

A decent card in limited i guess. In other news it has been confirmed that people will be winning limited tournaments in UB colors from now until we move on to a different limited. Stay tuned for more changes.

Trolling can be defined as "A art, one specifically designed to misdirect, anger, or confuse others by reporting meaningful information in a clear, coherent way."
One day I will go infinate on a token combo then drop Scramble verse and watch as the trolling begins. That day will be a good day.

What's everybody's thoughts? Seems Boros just got a little more versatile for the mid-late game.
As pretty much all the guildmages are though, it's a limited bomb.
