Efficient? There is one constant in magic: things die. I personally chump with Slitherhead then nuke a fatty at instant speed for one mana. For something Id have to do ANYWAY to live!
So lets add that up...I block, which I have to anyway, then nuke any threat on the board under a 14/14 for one swamp on my opponents turn. I'm sorry, but I fail to see how Im missing out.
Because, unless u are playing a Suicide B style deck, you can't control the morbid trigger. It just happens. And even in your scenerio you lose. 2 cards to get rid of 1, where as if u used a card like UP you trade 1 for 1.

I fail to see how me blocking and paying 1 mana to make my opponents 5 drop fatty he dropped that same turn bite the dust is "bad". To each their own.

U lost 2 cards (Tragic Slip+Your Blocker) to their 1 card (their fatty) where, if you used hard removals like UP you get rid of their creature for 1 card.

Id also be wasting mana on my turn to deal with said creature. Mana I can spend on a fatty of my own while my opponent is tapped out. Again, to each their own.

His prior example included slitherhead, with its scavenge ability makes it more useful as a blocker. I don't think the 2-1 rulle applies so well to a creature you're still getting uses out of after it dies.

He's saying because if you had, say Ultimate Price, you could kill the fatty before it attacks. However, I do agree that Slip is important, it's one of the deck removal spells that hits everything, and it can also kill Aristocrat.

Can also nuke a turn 1 Delver. It's a useful card and my death spell of choice. Plus the deck I run wants stuff in my yard, so it's nothing but a net gain for me.

But then that is because your decks WANTS to do that. If your playing say... Esper control with a heavy spell focus (which as of right now most Esper decks are) then Tragic slip gets significantly worse.
Additionally, how often do you see turn 1 delver anymore? Delver has died ever sense rollout.

Actually I also run a Rakdos deck that makes use of a few slips. And yeah, Delver has died down..but is it gone? Dimir is coming up, and it looks pretty turn 2 flier friendly.

How so? Unless they reprint Ponder or Brainstorm, Delver won't see the competitive play it used to. Without library manipulation Delver just isnt that good.

A cantrip cipher for under 3 mana WILL make delver viable again, though not as consistent as it was with ponder.
No it won't. The problem isn't just lack of ponder or leak. Its abrupt decay and supreme verdict would instantly push delver back into t2 or worse status if it was popular again.

You're playing Slitherhead. That's how you're missing out. I think you should be disqualified from having an opinion regarding competitive deck design.
OGC has an ETB effect that's relevant versus all archetypes, is fairly mana efficient (5/5 for 5 is not bad) and dodges all sorcery speed removal. I don't want to think about Facing a Junk midrange deck playing Lotleth troll, Dreg Mangler and OGC, while I'm stuck with Supreme verdicts and Azorius charms.
LP, I'm checking your article out as well. Behind all of your swag is the brain of one of the most intelligent Magic players I've ever known. I guess that's one more thing for you to add to the wall of ego that is your Sally sig.
I can go with that. LK, you are the Mace Windu of red mages...cool, tempered logic in deliberation, but capable of just flat kicking tail when the situation warrants it.

Off topic but it is played competitivly (not slitherhead but tragic slip). In fact all control decks that have access to black use it as at least a 1-2 of that I"ve seen in standard. Its a solid removal spell. Thinking a good card is an amazing card doesn't quite merit someone from not having an opinion.

Obzedat seems like a quality finnisher in standard. I don't see it making much of a splash outside as all other formats (excluding limiited) have great instant speed removal in near every deck.
I was speaking of Slitherhead. That's unplayable trash. Also the only deck I've seen performing anywhere that used tragic slip is B/G agro but I do concede that it's not a bad card.

Haha, just kidding. I don't think Delver is that far off from being viable again though. Two more spells would probably get it there.
EDH: Borborygmos Enraged, Sedris, The Traitor King
