Fathom Mage 2GU
Creature-Human Wizard [Rare]
Evolve
Whenever a +1/+1 counter is placed on Fathom Mage, draw a card.
[1/1]
Seems decent enough. Should see some Standard play and a ton of action in Limited... thoughts? This proved to me that Evolve will be cool too... the sort of coolness we never got for scavenge.

I'm hoping this means there will be a few more Simic cards that say when a counter is placed or removed from that permanent, you get to do something cool. If that happens, I'll be very happy. I've been looking at Simic since RTR was first announced since I wasn't around for the first Ravnica set..
Evolve will definitely be big in Limited. As for Standard, what about human reanimator? Even though most humans are 1/1, there is potential here. As for casual, if I get a set of these, I'll be seeing what I can ramp it for.

What you are about to read the absolute truth about the deck that once nearly killed WotC's revenue.

Maybe a U/G Ramp Midrange deck could work with this. I know this card is unlikely to be competitive, but I still wish to test out some sort of U/G deck utilizing both Increasing Savagery and Ring of Evos Isle.
Would love to see her as Wall... now she's really tempting card advantage engine with really tempting to kill body. Part of my mind screams "too unreliable on turn four"... show me some trademark Simic counterspells and I'm game
So I have to make sure that another creature enters after she gets to the battlefield. Also, if she survives next turn, I have to cast more creatures just to make the casting cost truly worth it.
If I can draw three cards from her, then she have done her job. But still......

Gonna leave this account now cause many friends have access on this one and had posted in the past.
It is a shame that multiple triggers don't always yield counters otherwise Huntmaster would be the perfect follow-up play. Still seems like a super good card and I dread to see the value that it gets out of board states that involve Thragtusk and Restoration Angel. "How to make an obnoxious combo even more obnoxious". Sure, I'll draw 2 cards off of that.

Edit: I'm assuming I can place more than one counter on with a load of 2/2 2/1 etc coming into play at the same time.
It occurs to me I have no idea when it checks to see if it's bigger or not, because my rules level is kinda meh.
Seems unplayable in constructed without some kind of arcbound ravager for humans.
Even in reanimator you will draw 2, maybe 3 cards off it when you go off. And why would you even want to draw cards when you go off, when your goal should be just killing them?
I'm playing it at the moment with Disciple and Labman. (see Seance deck thread for details). Drawing lots of cards means I'm guaranteed to be able to loop quicker and about half the time will win a turn earlier.
That was my question, if I'm only going to draw 2-3 cards then it's pretty meh, if I can draw 10-12 then it locks in the win.
Edit: Got the answer in the rulings thread. It doesn't work.
Bant and blink it with restoration angel to reset it if you need more draw. It's in green so rancor plays well to give it some evasion. The ring kalonia will make it draw one every turn and give it trample. Again, this evolve plays well with GoST as well with the angel triggering it for a few turns and at least the turn you drop it.
Turn one Avacyn's Pilgrim, turn 2 Geist of Saint Traft, turn 3 drop this, swing with Geist, draw card off angel token. Seems like Bant Aggro could do worse.
And you just spent 4 mana and 1 card to get 2/2 and draw a card. Might as well play inspiration.
That's best case scenario mind you. In worst case (no creature better than mage drawn) fathom mage is complete blank.
If we get some more good ramp she will have her place in constructed. EDH uses are just loony. I can see droping her then the next turn following up with 2 Bond Beetles and a ghostly flicker, effectively swinging with a 5/5 and drawing 4 cards. And thats on a bad day.

And yet another reason why Doubling Season will remain a $25+ card.
Don't get me wrong, I love it... can't wait to make a Simic-drenched counter deck. The Simic had Voidslime... I hope they get a Simic-style counter spell again.

I am not saying that this is going to happen just saying:
Reanimator with angel in PT Barcelona played a loner champion of the parish..
Imagine what champion did.. The same with this guy but didn't draw cards in the process...
Evolve doesn't work that way. You will get pumped 1 time from huntmaster and that's all. You actually need a human with base 3 power or toughness to trigger it further. I suppose 3 toughness guy could be that exile cleric.

If that's your "casual," what on earth is required for "formal," a butler in livery shuffling the decks whilst a pianist plays Brahms in front of a tapestry?

I'm also tempted to splash white for some stuff like Sphinx's Revelation and Ajani, Caller of the Pride.

For limited this is certainly a bomb.

Will have to see how it works out though, in any case I got my playset of natural savagery just in case.

I hate the reserved list.
Mythic rares are fine.
Then play Hunger of the Howlpack and draw 3 more cards!
And if you're running Bant and sacrificed Elder Cathar for Deranged Outcast then you have 7 draws... a whole new hand by your 5th turn.
