It's a solid card, but there are so many solid cards in WU right now that I doubt it'll be much more than filler. Unless there's a viable detain-centric deck to be built around detaining every turn, with the skyknight a critical link in the chain. I don't think it's likely, but I haven't seen the whole set.
I think this will see play WITH GoST, being able to detain their 2/x blocker, swing in with Geist unharmed lol. But the same can be said with Rootborn Defenses, that one may be better

Why do people compare this to geist.
Aside from the manacost and being creatures they got absolutely nothing in common.
They both will see play, in different decks and probably even copies of both creatures in the same decks.

The Internet was a revelation to me, I never imagined there are so many idiots on this planet.
Rootborn defenses wouldn't be better. You can use this guy, and he can attack for 3 himself as well, you can also reuse this guy with R-angel, and R-angel can also save your Geist. Super nice synergy between them ^^
I could easily see this seeing play in that way.
Detain is by far my favorite mechanic of the 5. Simple, flavorful, and controlling to the core.
You compare this card to Geist of Saint Traft because you are playing a tempo creature in the 3cc slot.
If you had a lower curve, and your opponent plays creatures, then Lyev Skyknight is better than Geist of Saint Traft. In almost all other respects, Geist is better.
For example, in Haunted Humans, this card might be better in the 3cc slot, especially with Hallowed Fountain.
4 Champion of the Parish
4 Gather the Townsfolk
4 Lyev Skyknight
3 Restoration Angel
Equipment
Moorland Haunt
I think this card is probably Craig Wescoe's best friend.
Does it actually play as well with Restoration Angel as everyone is saying?
What keeps niggling at me is this:
I flash in Restoration Angel EOT, blinking my only other creature; it has detain. I get no benefit.
I guess it just means I have to change when I play Restoration Angel, which probably isn't a big deal unless we get more playable counterspells.
No flash in angel in response to them entering combat to detain their best attacker. This way you get any hasty nonsense they might have and you'll be able to attack with both on the next turn.
T3: play the knight, detain the best target
T4: play land, attack with the knight, pass the turn. As they enter combat flash in the angel and detain the best target.
T5: Attack with both.
I guess the "Until your next turn" can be a good kick in the teeth in some situations.
If the effect would be the usual "end of turn" it would be fairly boring, but this card could even safe you from something like Emrakul, atleast for a while.
that is, if it could target emrakul. emrakul has double protection from this guy.

Serious question, why wouldnt you play geist in that list?
Also keep in mind that we've only seen a small portion of the detain cards. There is no question that it'll be an amazing effect for us control lovers... but at 3 CMC, there might be something BETTER waiting to be spoiled.
I'm still shocked they printed an effect like this after a set with so much blink though... I mean really... wow.
Serious question, why wouldnt you play geist in that list?
Evasive on its own, ETB detain, not legendary so if you get stuck on 3 you can cast another rather than stare at it longingly in hand, etc.
They're apples and oranges - one beats hard but has to stick around a turn, and needs something to make it evasive - the other is evasive on its own and gets value even if it gets removed immediately.

T3: play the knight, detain the best target
T4: play land, attack with the knight, pass the turn. Rewind their hastey creature and untap your lands. As they enter combat flash in the angel and detain the best target.
T5: Attack with both.
There, made it betters :). Being able to cast two 4 cost spells that totally slows down your opponents gameplay and speeds up yours all on your opponent's turn is what it's all about.
And this is crazy
But detain those guys
And attack him maybe?

LMAO. Nice call. All except for one thing, it has U in it's cost...
