As a lover of Overgrown Battlement, I reckon this guy looks like he'd make for some decent acceleration. He costs a little more and has some less toughness, but the mana fixing makes him quite superb. I don't think he'd make much of a splash in most formats though.
@above:
T1 accelerant
T2 test subject - Spell pierce in hand.
T3 this - Spell pierce in hand.
T4 freed from the real. At this point, anything in your hand can be cast to protect your engine, and you can get a 13/13 quite easily. Just wish it was a token, so you could use Rootborn Defenses to both protect and gain two of them.
I was mainly talking about standard. I seriously doubt this is viable in modern/eternal formats either, though.
Now that i think about it, it could work even in T2 with Galvanic Alchemist and enough creatures with defender. And a mana outlet like Scalding Devil...
Eh... No. Six card combos don't usually work in T2.
...actually, Ludevic's Test Subject is a defender. This guy could be rather interesting, as long as some more good defenders get spoiled.
yeah, i was saying this on another thread. he makes a powerful threat if flipped, and adds to the mana if not. also, tree of redemption should shine here. fog bank, gatekeeper vine, sheltering word, maybe even manor gargoyle? bet there'll be more options soon, but im already thinking about door to nothingness

like it as u/g, but 5cD might be fun
It's practically a free counter on test subject, so if you play t2 subject t3 Axebane then its possible for a t5 or even t4 flipped test subject.

What do you think?

yeah, thats pretty sweet, especially when its not the primary wincon, just a face beater if he sticks. if not, eating removal isnt too bad with him
it sucks that pride guardian is the only 1 drop defender, and it rotating. cathedral membrane too.
