I figured out why I hate this FTV: EVERY card in there has been available for $5 or less.

I dont see what the problem would of been by putting dark depths and wasteland in. Yes the price would increase tenfold but at the same time it might be a good idea to start printing these in a larger volume (Cough cough modern reprints still waiting)

I don't even know why they are still doing From The Vaults if they are just going to fill them with unexciting jank and use the "It's part of a cycle!" excuse.
Protip: If I'm spending 60+ dollars on the product I don't want janky cycles in it.
Better tip: find a store near you that isn't marking up the product to match its contents. There are two shops within my vicinity that are selling for MSRP, quite luckily.
I don't like it. There are only two cards in the whole set I actively want--Ancient Tomb and Maze of Ith--and the rest I just don't care about. I love the art on Dryad Arbor, but that giant piece of broccoli on it just makes it look like crap. They should've made it full art.
I actually like Desert a lot and don't mind it being in here, although I admit it's a waste of a slot for everyone else.

So, your tip is for him to get lucky and have a shop magically start charging MSRP? Oh, and for that shop to still have them available at that price? That's a big ol' "fail tip."
BTW: for those saying that we have unreasonable expectations for the FTV (and yes, I've seen those comments), don't look at us. Look at WotC who called it "stone cold nuts." Problem with predictions like that is when they're wrong, you look bad. It's not the consumer's fault for expecting the product to live up to WotC's hype.

I've *****ed enough on other threads, but I'll bring up another complaint.
This would not be so bad of a box if I could actually get it for $35. However in order to get one of these at a decent price, I need to pre-order before most of the cards are spoiled. So a big part of it is my fault for speculating, but if the box did have Karakas or Wasteland, I would have been kicking myself for not getting in on this at $80.
But as it stands I will be stuck with a box where 80% of the contents I do not care about.

Stone cold nuts, as strong of a description as it is, is still fairly relative. I think you'd have more of a right to be genuinely upset if they flat-out said there would be $200 secondary market value in the set and failed to deliver. Realms is probably going to be second to only Exiled, which is still quite reasonable.
If Wizards would have just put in something useful besides Desert, Windbrisk, and Shivan Gorge. I mean I can probably throw Desert and Gorge into an EDH deck, but the other lands are so much easier and more beneficial to use. I just find it hard for a set to be 'stone cold nuts' when 20% of the cards are not useful. Although really the only cards I really like and want in it are the Orchard, Tomb, and Maze.
Good FTV? Certainly. Stone Cold nuts? Definitely not. Value aside and flavor withstanding, there was no reason for Windbrisk > Wasteland aside from trolling players. Please, explain to me which qualities Windbrisk has FLAVORWISE over Wasteland for this set. I too loathe the idea of cycle cards in FTV because I believe that cards iconic enough to be placed in FTV should be cards powerful enough that the rest of the cycle was comparatively neglected (like Force of Will). Apparently Wizards doesn't think so (Gorge AND Windbrisk), but I speak from a simple observer standpoint; FTV: Realms will affect me in no more than zero ways, and I simply feel like Wizards passed up some extremely iconic, powerful, and obvious choices in favor of filler. I'm rather disappointed that I don't care about the product because as a Legacy player I probably should, but the set as a whole was less than impressive.
I really do think they spoiled the good stuff first to make preorders go nuts, and I almost believe they left the name and number crunch keep Wasteland seeming a viable option with their spoils for a reason. Much disappoint.
No matter what was in it people will complain. Even if it had Workshop and Bazaar in it people would.
I tracked down two of the main threads for From the Vault: Relics and Exiled to see what the general consensus was during that time.
Guess what, there was much less backlash over the card choices in these two boxes. Most of the reaction was surprise and feverish attempts to locate and secure boxes:
i like ~70% of the set, and i can live with more ~20%
i think there are better lands to put in place of the hideaway land, like kor haven, flagstone and karakas.
i dislike desert here, and why they use the fnm art, put the old art with new frame... or make another art...
to hit all the 5 color lands, could be easy to choose phyrexian tower over urborg (both are ok), karakas over wind, dark depths over maze...
Just because there are three cards in it that are horrible that doesn't mean its no good. They did a great job with the set there are cards in it that are worth money. What do you guys expect them to put $100 bills into a box and sell it for an MSRP of $35? Wasteland has had pleanty of prints the only thing that they could have added was karakas and thats to expensive to put into the set.
I don't think people are upset that the really expensive cards didn't make it. They are just upset that they included unplayable cards. Gorge, Desert and Windbrisk could have easily been Flagstones of Trokair, Academy Ruins, Volrath's Stronghold, Phyrexian Tower, Kor Haven, Horizon Canopy, a Worldwake manland, (Bl)inkmoth Nexus, etc.
With that said, I think the set is fine. Its not stone cold nuts but its very very solid.
No matter what was in it people will complain. Even if it had Workshop and Bazaar in it people would.
People would complain about how they'd never get a copy at MSRP if it had Workshop and Bazaar... they'd probably say something about the Reserve List, too.
I highly doubt people would call it a bad FTV if it had those two cards. Even if they left Shivan Gorge and Desert in...
Ancient Tomb: $10
Boseju: $5
Cephalid Coliseum $6
Forbidden Orchard $6
Grove $13
High Market: $7
Maze of Ith: $50
Urborg: $20
Vesuva: $10
Windbrisk Heights: $5
That's 127 USD (SCG Prices), and that's not even counting that these are foil so... let's say you get ripped of at twice the MSRP ($70) you are still getting good value.

Well SCG is like the worst means of pricing ever, and also the prices on these cards has currently spiked by their inclusion in this set, as people are now focused on them for speculation (Which is weird). Maze of Ith, however, is readily available in EX or better condition for only $30. Just saying.
Also, those of us who don't like the set probably don't feel that way because of value.

The set is great, has a lot of cards I dont own but would love to have for EDH. If I could walk into my magic shop and hand them 35$ then it would be the stone cold nuts. But my shop refused to even sell legends at 35$ and as a result they still have about 5 sitting there. I dont have the kind of cash to drop 100+ dollars on it. If this was mass produced and available at walmart for 35$ then awesome but it isnt so meh.

I'm a Spike Vorthos - I love lore and flavor, but only if the cards are competition worthy.
Monetary wise, if you get it for around 100 or less you'll probably profit, this is what I'm thinking the prices will be
Ancient Tomb: $15-20
Boseju: $8-10
Cephalid Coliseum $5
Desert $1
Dryad Arbor: $10
Forbidden Orchard $10
Glacial Chasm: $1
Grove $15-20
High Market: $15-20
Maze of Ith: $50-60
Murmuring Bosk: $5
Shivan Gorge $2
Urborg: $25-30
Vesuva: $15-20
Windbrisk Heights: $5
Monetary wise it probably is nuts, but playability nope
