I think it's funny watching all these blue players complain they don't have an answer to this. Apparently, everyone must have forgotten that Steel Sabotage is a pretty darn good card.
I really don't understand WoTC reasoning for introducing a new mechanic like "Undying" and then in the very same set print a card that just discourages people from constructing decks that wants to make use of it.
If it was in the next set or block I can understand, but not when you are trying to introduce a GY based mechanic. Not only does it hurt the new mechanic, but it also hurts previous mechanics across multiple formats.
Costing it at 1 just makes it plain rude.
I seriously hope that this is a troll or fake card. (Unlikely, but a guy can still hope)

It's by no means Game Over for Undying creatures, since the opponent is essentially spending a card to blank half of your undying card. It obviously weakens the Undying guys, but it's not like Vorapede stops attacking them just because they have a Cage...
I still don't understand why everyone's complaining about this. It just forces you to play "normal" magic, where each spell counts as one spell. You're complaining about playing last years format.

Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.
you complain about this, but doesn't steel sabotage counter a wurmcoil engine? seems pretty unfair to counter artifacts for U.
Wheres my reprint for REB, so I can beat blue decks with my RDW?
The card is overhyped. IF its put into peoples sideboards, it will shut off Lich decks (if they ever try to make them now b/c of this), Pod decks, and probably Burning Vengeance decks. Any blue deck in the format right now doesn't lose b/c they can't use their snapcasters to rebuy spells. Chances are, Mental Misstep will just get put into SBs if people start trying to hate with this card.
The card has potential to STIFLE deck creation, that is for sure. Many people aren't going to try to innovate any GY based archetype, or decks that require putting creatures into play from not-your-hand.

Except the cards being printed are forcing deck creation in that direction.your statement is not very valid.
This card isnt that big a deal against snapcaster. Snapcaster is mostly used to flashback counters/removal. You take away an answer by playing this, but they still have the 2/1 and you just used up card alots. This is also a dead card in multiples.
The main reason I dislike this card is that it punishes the lower end decks like pod, not the tier one decks that will not care about this card.
That's correct, it doesn't interact with Warp World in any meaningful way. The first effect shuffles it away, and the second effect puts everything onto the battlefield at the same time.
Blue can bounce it losing a card and tempo. While your opponent recast for just 1 mana. That is assuming there is only 1 on the board. More than 1 and you are screwed.
Black cannot do a damn thing to it.
Ratchet Bomb is not a great answer. Unless there is other things in your opponent's deck you can hit with bomb there is no point in playing it. Often enough you're going to have to blow it to wipe out tokens or hexproof guys.
1 mana cost artifact turn you deck off card should NEVER be printed. I don't mind hate cards they are very much needed. When you hose an entire deck strategy that spans across many colors there is an issue. On top of that the colors that it hoses cannot touch it.
If a deck with blue has a problem with this, it means it is a combo deck. Which means it only needs to be out of play for 1 turn. Which means bouncing it is fine.
Mono-black no longer exists for the most part, and they almost always splash for something. Which means it will have an answer. Cage will hurt the Mono-black Pox like deck that was pretty good for a couple of weeks in Legacy.
So let's take this list and whittle it down to the cards that are actually effected (if they don't see play without this card in existence, it doesn't effect them):
I was generous, leaving in cards that have seen play in the past even fi they aren't seeing play right now. So what's hurt? Mostly Control cards. Outside of traditional (either tap-out or draw-go) control, Vengeance is hurt - a RED card, the best color for destroying artifacts, ramp decks are hurt and if pod decks ever come back they'll have to deal with this - a GREEN card, the second best color for destroying artifacts. Doesn't seem to be that bad for Standard... (most of the complainers I've seen seem like they wouldn't mind control taking a hit).

I'm hoping that there will be somewhat of an "answer" card, in the same way that Full Moon allowed a one-time regen to help werewolves against ratchet bomb.
I'm not sure how much this will affect burning vengeance, I mean I already maindeck ancient grudge and side board mental misstep which I feel like are enough to deal with cage. I generally wont be trying to cast anything from my gy til lategame any ways. That's plenty of time to deal with a pesky little artifact.
I'm so glad a card was printed that makes the ridiculously greedy 4-5 color control decks a pipe dream (hate the concept of being able to run more than 3 colors). On the other hand, it certainly worries me that they would print a card so aggressively costed if there wasn't some sort of ridiculous card/cards that are just unbeatable without it... Hard to say what WotC is thinking, but hopefully it will all be fine. Totally agree that, it's an odd choice for a flasjback set, but whatevs; I just play the cards they print for me.
Jesus, this thing even ruins the Undying mechanic that is supposed to the "big thing" for this set. Not to mention Snapcaster, the new Lich, etc. This is an absurdly bad move on the part of WotC and I am honestly not confident that R&D knows what they are doing anymore.
Edit: After thinking about it, this card is literally the biggest hoser in the history of Magic.
If you ask me, Undying is way too powerful anyway. Persist was a mistake when they made that mechanic and now they make it better? This card was probably needed for limited just to make Undying not a total beatstick.
Honestly? You can't tell the difference in power level between a card that hates on a rarely played strategy, provides absolutely no CA on it's own, and can be easily removed, with a permanent mini Wrath of God? Really?
Actually, it would be a permanent infest without the eot drawback...
They need to print hosers for Delver and/or Titan decks, not decks that weren't good to begin with.
People can beat Delver if they really want to. Just play Whipflare and some other anti-aggro cards and you'll be fine. And to beat titans, you play counterspells or aggressive decks like Delver.
This is going to be played in a few sideboards in standard, certainly, but it's not even that great. Its real power is in older formats, where some decks just lose to it.

I think Vintage is where this will see the most play. I think the other options in Modern and Legacy are better. But being able to hurt Tinker and Oath is pretty big. Which is the big reason it cost 1 in my opinion. It had to be fast enough for Vintage.
This card is *definitely* most unfair to mono-black.
They should reprint Curse Artifact at 1B and doing three damage rather than two. That would make people think twice about this as an auto-include against Reanimator. It would also be in-flavor with the block.
Also- multiple Cages on the board are *not* worthless- most removal only gets rid of one. If more than one is out, it's that much harder to get out from under the effect.

How is this card worst for Mono-black? What cards does it hose that see play in Mono-Black in any format? I can think of maybe 1 or 2 in Legacy, assuming Mono-Black is still a real deck there.
Alright, so I've been playing magic for about 3 years at this point. Played standard right from the beginning, and got into EDH this past summer. I've got 4 EDH decks built, and 3 standard decks, so I'm kinda bored with my formats. "I'm gonna build a Legacy deck!" I think to myself. I decide on reanimator because it seems the most intriguing to me, something about bringing stuff back from the dead just seems fascinating. Checking spoilers for dark ascension: "oh cool new sorin, oh these vampires seem neat! Gravediggers? wait no, GRAFdiggers cage? WOW THANKS WIZARDS!" This is what I get for wanting to get more involved in the game I love? Like really, I play birthing pod in standard, and while this card is really annoying, there's plenty of games where you just don't draw a pod and have to deal. Reanimator I've seen a lot of people commenting that it's an issue, and it seems like one to me, but I haven't played enough legacy at all to comment with an informed opinion, but just as an observation it looks stupid as F***. This card is an unnecessary headache.

Graveyard decks were always considered 'unfair' and therefore demanding 'unfair' hosers. Graveyard hate was always stronger than other hate.
