I agree on the 1/1 being not so good, but that is a bomb of an ability. This guy will end up in every Necrotic Ooze/Lich deck in the future for sure, and the whole set hasn't been spoiled yet, so maybe there is some synergy with cards we haven't seen.

I guess thats possible, but i mean something like Mirror-Mad Phantasm is so far out in front of this card, even in the Ooze combo deck, so you could at least use the ability of the Phantasm to protect the Ooze. Why would you bother playing this over that? How many guys can you even expect to have in play by that point?
You know, at first glance, I thought this was completely unplayable. But after thinking about it, I'm not so sure. Yes, I realize it dies to every removal spell in sight, but there are some decks that just don't play that many. Like UW. And she's pretty good at shutting down Moorland Haunt decks.
Yes, Consecrated Sphinx does exactly the same thing, and a lot else besides, but Consecrated Sphinx won't be around for as long as Moorland Haunt is. Neither will Gut Shot, which is the main thing that makes Beguiler bad. So I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up seeing some sideboard play at some point.
i dont want to just hate on a mythic, but i dont see this being playable in any capacity
the only way it does anything decent is if its dead with a Lich or Necrotic Ooze in play, other than that, how could you tap out for a 1/1?
its a decent ability but its not even that great, so my question is: Why waste a mythic slot on this?
You seem to be a Standard-Constructed-Only player, I would assume. If you drafted this, you know how valuable it would be? There is very little creature removal in draft games, and it's only a 1/1 by itself but it really is as strong as your opponent's strongest creature since it will soon be yours.
I relish the thought of using it in a Commander deck. If you haven't played this format, it's littered with Eldrazi, and creature theft that can't be removed (like an enchantment) is rare. Besides this, there's Dominate, Riptide Entrancer, Thalakos Deceiver, Bribery, Blatant Thievery, Govern the Guildless, and Memnarch - that's it... and only Memnarch allows you to pull it off more than once. It's a more valuable card than you think... just look outside your particular format.
Trolling can be defined as "A art, one specifically designed to misdirect, anger, or confuse others by reporting meaningful information in a clear, coherent way."
One day I will go infinate on a token combo then drop Scramble verse and watch as the trolling begins. That day will be a good day.
Its a permanent gain control. They are not getting their guy back no matter what. Unlike most effects that gain control of creatures they can be removed and its owner gets the creature back. 0 mana to activate.
That is why it is mythic level. Is it good.......hell no. Besides necrotic ooze is loving all the new activated abilities on creatures. Hopefully magic gets back to activated abilities and good play. I really hate this ETB effects making magic super easy to play.
The only thing I wish they had done with this card would be to make it 4uu and have haste. The one extra mana is annoying but giving it haste doesn't make it a dead card in any format even standard.
The thing is now people need to figure out a way to give it haste. And if that can be achieved simply it is kind of a broken card, if not it will remain OK.
Mythic isn't about powerlevel, it's about effect, and I must admit that mind control on a stick is a truly mythological effect.
It will obviously see play in commander and other casual formats since it is really cool and with enough support it can take over a game and it might even see play in some weird token deck(though I doubt it)
Honestly I think this card is better than the "absolute junk" response. For one, it's reusable and doesn't cost mana to activate. It can always grab a 1 or 0 power creature, permanently, and steal exponentially from there. It generally has the about the same risk and investment as Mind Control (costs the same and playable competitive creature kill usually kills almost any creature, outside burn).
It does need to untap and is very specific about what it can steal though. I could see it being used with instant token generators like Midnight Haunting. Maybe SB only, but the ability can be powerful enough to take note of it.
If I make a Grimgrin Necrotic Ooze deck, this seems really good against tokens. Steal one, sac to Grimgrins ability, untap Ooze (with this ability). Rinse, repeat, until all are dead and or stolen.
This card is absolute junk it requires you to have other in creatures in play to turn it's ability on and offers you a 1/1 body for 5 mana it's complete garbage if you ask me.
This card really isn't all that terrible.
Standard:
1) Play with moorland haunt, that way you should always some creatures.
2) Play with Grave Titan, you should be able to steal most things with turn 5 this guy, turn 6 Grave Titan
3) The mentioned Necrotic Ooze/Grimgrin non-sense
EDH:
1) giving this guy haste is super easy (boots, greaves, hall of the bandit lord, etc.)
2) Azami is a 5 mana 0/2, and is killer in this format. 5 mana wizards with the potential ability to just take over a game are good, especially when they don't require mana to activate. (Yes azami is never really summoning sick, but is similar in that both are better the more guys you have on the field).
Limitted:
In limitted it is not super uncommon to have 2-4 guys on the field, and not be winning. This guy can just take over games by himself.
Overall: Even if the first creature he steals is mediocre, remember the ability is cumulative. Stealing a creature increases your creature count! allowing you to steal a better creature on the subsequent turn.
Is he fantastic, perhaps not, but play with him for a week or two and see what happens before just trashing this guy.
This feels like exactly what a Mythic card was originally intended to be. Its a very specific card designed for one or two decks in all of Magic and those decks have to cater to it. Its very expensive mana wise and also fragile.
Compare it to Huntmaster, Vorapede and the new Vamp. Those three fit into any deck that supports the color. They scream utility, even if its utility found in a really big beating stick. And definately these should not have been Mythic.

I like it, its a cool card with an unusual but epic ability. You get to keep the creature as well so it seems like a good EDH card if you can give it haste.
It probably won't see play competitively in any format except in combination with ooze, although it could turn out to be very good in that.
I kinda like him. I would mind side boarding him in mono blue. Delvers get big and would let you take almost anything ever printed if you had out a set that are transformed 12 or less. The fact that its not until he leaves play is nice also. i dont mind it being mythic i dont want wasted binder space with jank rares now im less likely to get them

Had to bump as I realized that her ability doesn't end when she dies and could be used every turn...I suppose I just assumed she was a modern Old Man of the Sea.
Anyhoo, she's a casual mythic, and will be finding her way into my Wizard Singleton deck thank you very much.
Old Man of the Sea ain't no slouch, either.
You'd be surprised how many good things he can steal,
especially when you keep saccing them into a Diamond Valley
But yeah, Beguiler will go in the exact same EDH deck that I put Old Man in.
And I suspect he'll drool over her like the sick old pervert that he is.

Ugh, the guy I learned to play cards from (who was an excellent player) was running 4x OMotS with 4x Zephid's Embrace, along with your typical U-Control filler. I learned to hate that card, and blue in general.
But since then I've learned the beauty of a good U control deck.
I still hate the Old Man however.

There are ways to make her less fragile. Old Mickey is one such way. Gavony Township as well, both of which are in my Humans deck already.
