The Exarch has 4 toughness so it passes the bolt test.
It has flash so you play it end of turn 3, untap cast the enchant and laugh at Jace. So it passes the Jace test.
The deck can run enough counters and red removal combined with the fact that it kills on turn 4 as long as it has the combo beats titans out.
Plus with Gitaxian Probe, preordain and other card draw and selection the deck should be able to find the combo with moderate regularity.
Possible budget deck of the new format? or just a combo players dream...
Preordain and the "free" peek make this a deck. You'll want support and I "think" there is enough of it around. Wish there was a true R/U dual and that's where things get sticky.
Screams crazy, but not "crazy enough it might work" dies to way too many things. removal, hand distuption, counters. Its weird and might throw someone off, but a good control player doesnt tap out turn 4
The only shame about the transformative sideboard plan is that any hate cards they would bring in for pyromancer's ascension still will hit splinter twin. May be able to run a transformative plan off a U/W/r caw or Grixxis control deck or something as well.
Bloodchief Ascension / Mindcrank is also a combo, but does require a third item (damage over several rounds or damage/proliferate) to finish a kill. Mindcrank Ascension might fit into a grixxis tezz, RDW/b or a B/r vamps build off a transformational sideboard plan. Alternatively it could be run in a u/b, R/u or R/b proliferate core of some type. Also, opponents will trigger ascension simply by paying phyrexian mana costs if they have any.

Slingin' cardboard out of Yokohama, Japan. (if you're local and play EDH or want to test competitive, drop me a line!)
I'd see this in RUG especially. Why RUG? Fauna Shaman and Jace to tutor (Splinter Twin is only hand disrupted by Duress. URB would use hand disruption to stop hand disruption for the LOLs. Also, there is a free counter to 1-cost spells now. IMO this is a far more valid combo than the myr-splintertwin combo and it will be fun to play with at the least. UR controlcension ftl!

In theory, you can start the combo on opponents turn 3. Plus, you're tapping one of their lands EOT, so they will only have to lands with which to work with. Not that that is a perfect situation, but if you do it turn 4/5, leaving opponent with 3 mana, you can Pierce whatever they play to disrupt the combo.
It will probably be a transformation sideboard for PA. The one thing it has going for it, is it instant kills jace decks if they don't know it's coming. They side in all their counters for PA (which in standard doesn't go off on turn 4 often). Do some searching, maybe drop a PA on turn 2. Then pass on turn 3, and if they drop a jace, you can just win because of the flash. It's vulnerable to alot of things, but really hard to play around, because anytime you have 3 mana, they can't tap out.
Honestly, I think decks just don't run enough countermagic right now to stop this kind of deck. Especially since the deck gets mental misstep for spell pierce/IoK and gitaxian probe to look at their hand, along with countermagic of its own and IoK/duress if black.
It would be fun to build it around a RUG-type core, so that people completely misunderstand your deck. Explore/cobra is pretty good anyway, and would let you combo out t3 off a t2 cobra/explore. Not to mention cobra works as a lightning rod for their removal, so they're less likely to have enough for deceiver.

I was thinking the same thing.
Have a nice little mental mistep in your hand for the stupid bolt/shock.
Cute combo, probably casual but it only last 5 months.
With Duress, Inquisition, and now Surgical Extraction all in stanard it's very possible to make a combo player lose before they draw their first card.
I've been playing Pyromacer/Runeflare since zendikar, and when I saw Extraction it made me sad. It's a good card, and i'm not angry...but there's a combo killer if I ever saw one.
If this was built into a control deck it would probably be a pretty sick finisher actually. I think black would be something youd also want in this for disruption
I myself have tried to make various versions of Pryomancers ascension decks but the problem is that once the combo goes off it isn't a guaranteed win. With this combo if it goes off you win, hands down.
Other includes in the deck could be: into the roil to deal with pesky artifacts like the torpor orb or just stalling long enough to go off. Seagate oracle as a card selection/blocker. spreading seas for further disruption of your opponent and card cycling.
It seems I'm not the only one experiencing the triple/double posting glitch.
Combos weakness is after sideboarding, they know just how to deal with you.
Combo in standard isn't dead. One of the few real decks in standard is a combo deck.
Primeval Titan isn't a combo: it is just borked with various Zendikar block lands. (I assume this is what you are talking about....)
One in my playgroup posted a RUG list with it that seemed decent. Had Inferno Titans as the back-up. I think some testing is warranted. I don't know what shell to fit it in though....:/
Side Note: Another card to consider for Pyromancer's is the new free Reclaim called Noxious Revival. Not sure if it is worth splashing a color for (I guess you don't need to, but 2 life is 2 life), but interesting nonetheless.

One card being borked with another card is usually called combo. The only reason people don't grasp the concept is because R/G ramp isn't usually considered a combo shell.

Among other things. Pyromancer is looking especially sexy, and this is a cool idea for totally throwing your opponent off game 2
Exactly right. This way they will never be able to know exactly what kind of sideboarding to do against you.
Are you refferening to the splinter twin combo, or Pyromancer?

Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
