If it can indeed target abilities, I find that amusing. Note though, that while it will attach your opponent's equipment to it, you don't control the equipment and its owner can still activate the equip ability again.
GOD DAMN FIGHT THE MAN, MAN!!! GRRRRRRR REBEL MAN YEAH!!! GET OUT YOUR TIE-DYE T-SHIRTS AND SOME ATOGS WITH PEACE SIGNS MAN! YEAH! LETS GROW OUR HAIR OUT LONG AND COLOR ON OUR MAGIC CARDS WITH SILVER SHARPIES TO REBEL! YEEEEAH!

This thing is bad in anything but limited. Nice try.
I disagree with this statement vehemently. I think it will see a significant amount of play in EDH decks as well as low wincon packing Legacy decks such as Dreadstill. Its butt is also relevant.
No worries... I'm still not a huge fan of it, and it does pretty much suck against Equipment.
You can't change the equip target to a creature you can control.
You can change the target, but it has to be a legal target, legal targets being creatures the equipment's owner controls that doesn't have protection from properties of the equipment.

Completely forgot about this. There will definitely be casual circles who play this wrong for a while.
On to the next question, can this save Precursor Golem? I'm still iffy on the targeting rules. I seem to think it can only protect a single golem, because the act of targeting Precursor Golem with say Lightning Bolt creates two copies no matter what, and you can just direct one of the Bolts to the butt of the splitter. Any thoughts?

Barring 3 activations, yeah, you can save the golems from a bolt.

I was honestly surprised it took 10 posts for someone to realize you can only target creatures you control with the equip ability...........
I do like this card though. I think it will see play, although I'm not sure in what format.
Probably more useful as a sideboard option in Legacy where there is a lot more spot removal -- Paths, StPs, various burn spells, various black removal, etc. BUT, it also counters one of JtMS's abilities. I think it may shut down Oblivion Ring as well, as the enchant effect is an ability? May depend on the final translation of the Spellsplitter, and whether it applies to all abilities (such as triggered ones).
A more appropriate name for this might have been lightning rod.
A rules question that comes to mind, is what happens if you have a non-artifact creature in play and your opponent targets it with Go For the Throat? Can you redirect it to Spellsplitter and have it fizzle?
I think that it has the potential to be a role player in niche decks that require a certain (or several certain) creatures to survive (Fauna Shaman comes to mind). It almost singlehandidly shuts down Lightning Bolt and Disfigure (and possibly GFtT) as removal spells. Not too bad for creature that also doubles as a nice wall.
I'll certainly be playing it. and if you doubt the usefulness of this spell.... well, good luck! lol. You'll be on the receiving end of it soon enough, when your Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker gets turned into an elephant.
It will really depend on the actual wording. If this can turn Go for the Throat, Condemn and similar restricted-targeting spells away from, say, Grand Architect, this thing's playability is simply huge. I hope it does, since the whole point of a card like this is to draw away the next removal spell targeted at a game-breaking utility creature.
If so, this will make huge contributions to the playability of utility and midrange guys, as well as mass removal. All good things for the current metagame.

This card will easily see play, I can see it being used in the new super friends replacing or even in addition to Wall of Omens. This wall not only protects against creatures but also guards your big creatures from removal or squadron hawks being equipped that is targeted by bolts. It also has the ability to attack while equipped something Wall of Omens cant do. This card can really make Blue/White scary as hell.

Really? The worst part about this card is that it's glaringly obvious what it tries to do. The opponent isn't going to use a bolt when this thing is out unless they're completely stupid. Blue White is already scary as hell and this sure isn't going to make that any different in either direction.

since no one actually answered you directly.
you cannot redirect go for the throat to itself, as itself isnt a legal target.
I was just thinking what it's going to be life when both players have one of these down. Essentially a bidding war over how much life one is willing to spend?
OP here.
I don't know why I didn't immediately assume the obvious "all targets must be legal" clause; perhaps I thought too little of WoC.
That being said, anyone who is dismissing this card is being myopic... "You're opponent just won't play that bolt" is absolutely not something bad about this card. This will become a staple of control decks, hands down. It even offers other decks (i.e., Elves) a chunk of control... I think this is the next Big Thing. Being able to spend all your mana and still affect your opponent's decisions is huge in MTG (see: Force of Will.)

a 2 creature that stops your opponents from playing half their control/removal spells and blocks a creatures a turn and protects itself? Sign me up, scotty. If it had costed any more it wouldn't be too playable, but at only 2 this creature is a *house*
This will become a staple in Tempered Steel extended decks, just watch. Protects Master of Etherium/ Steel Overseer/ Tezz borne 5/5s and becomes a beater itself with +x/+x bonuses.

It still forces the opponent to use addition spot removal.
Did you even read the card?

even if it had defender it would be SUCH a gross combo with overgrown battlement.
i dont see much use for this.
