At the beginning of your upkeep, if you control no Thopters other than Thopter Assembly, return Thopter Assembly to its owner's hand and put five 1/1 colorless Thopter artifact creature tokens with flying onto the battlefield.
5/5
So I'm mainly trying to brainstorm how to build a deck that uses this with Time Sieve for infinite turns. I was considering Leyline of Anticipation so that the assembly can be flashed in EOT and you're ready to go infinite before any response from a possibly tapped out opponent.
I'm also wondering if the old methods of getting Time Sieve online should be mashed in here, or if a whole new direction should be attempted by focusing on getting the two key cards out with a control/ramp shell.
Any ideas are welcome!

I don't see why you would ever need a card as crappy as Leyline to make a two-card combo work. You only need to stop them for 1 turn, and then it's infinite. A Turn Aside and a counter in hand is probably more than sufficient.
It's just not a good card, and won't lead to a good combo. If you want to abuse Time Sieve, the old Open the Vaults combo deck would be the way to go. This card is just...bad.
There are a lot of better things to be casting at six mana than this
Agreed. It's competing with all five Titans and Wurmcoil Engine, and that's just in Standard. In extended...I don't know, Time Sieve doesn't really need this sort of support. Why you would ever want to cast it in constructed is basically beyond me.
well he said it himself, and as much as i agree with the guy saying titans are cooler, a 2 card combo should be taken into consideration. or at least be given some thought.
This has to survive an upkeep and all, but if you have already 5 artifacts and time sieve when you drop the foundry, barring the fact that you can still cast/cheat it, you've won.
the only hate you can take is artifact removal on the sieve, or creature removal at instant speed (dealing with 5+ toughness), which is not that much.
the next extended deck ? probably not but i wouldn't discount it yet.
Playable in standard ? no.
I'm kinda new to the game, so I didn't know about Time Sieve, but my first thought was some shenanigans with Mass Polymorph. I also thought you might be able to do something with Ghostway from way back in Ravnica.
Edit: RESEARCH! I started looking into other possible combos in Vintage, and I realized that you can get infinite tokens via Conspiracy. Just say all Thopters are...I dunno...ninjas or something. Then you can keep playing each turn to make infinite tokens. Also for lulz, Rite of Replication on it after you declare all Thopters are Ninja Turtles.
If there's something horribly wrong with any of these combos, I wouldn't be surprised. I'm sure there are more efficient ways to do this as well.
Mass Polymorph sounds like a decent idea. Kuldotha Forgemaster is also a possibility, I guess, if there is a ridiculous CC target in the set.
Thopter Assembly could also potentially be useful with Throne of Geth, if a bit slow. But the better combo is Tempered Steel by far... Steel Overseer with Throne of Geth out could be worth considering : tap Overseer for +1/+1 on the little guys, sac one Thopter to the Throne for putting an extra counter on all his siblings...
I agree that the standalone card isn't something that can compete with Titans, it's definitely better used as a combo piece with TS which puts it into extended territory.
Looking back the Leyline probably doesn't belong.
Turn Aside is the kind of counter I'd want to run here so my artifacts don't go boom. I'll also need some way to survive against aggro long enough to set up. Fabricate tutors for both of the pieces, Tezzeret gets TS but takes awhile to grab the Thopter so I don't know about him. Cryptic Command is a solid control card, obviously. If Mana Leak is as impressive in extended as it has been in standard it's probably in. A black sweeper would probably go a long way in buying some time too, but which is best?
I'm just spewing out ideas at this point, a lot of things are up for debate but I know the end goal I want to work towards here.

For the first time, I'm really starting to hate the titans. I really want to play this, but it really doesn't do much in today's standard. The only chance I could see at this getting play is if the power creep slows down a bit and it finds a use next October.
I totally agree that this card won't cut it in standard, that's why I'm looking into extended.
The transmuter is definitely an idea, although quite fragile. There is also Kuldotha Forgemaster to give even more redundancy, if that's the direction this goes in.

Retarded with a single Tempered Steel out (Fifteen power? Sure, why not!). Only problem is that I'd rather have Grave Titan and get ten power that I don't have to wait two turns to swing with.
This guy won't see his day till ZEN rotation. But once that happens expect him to be a sac engine win con for a lot of decks.
Just look at forgestoker. Giving him infinite fodder to tutor out any artifact in your deck. That allows you to run a toolbox artifact deck.
Now look at tempered steel. That's insane CA. Oh and will wreck Limited formats. You have 1 turn to get rid of him before he starts ☺☺☺☺ting out tokens.

In it's defense, it all flies. Weenies from a Titan aren't terribly relevant against a established field. At least these can fly over them. I see use in control for it. It's a repeatable 5 flying power spell and would be amazing after a board wipe.
Not good in Standard? Are you kidding me? This is EXACTLY what Dredge-uh-Vine needed to be consistent again. Turn three, five or ten 1/1 flyers and/or a VV or two? Please and thank you.
Other than that, I don't see it being played much.

1. the ability triggers at the beginning of your upkeep so you have till the end of your opponent's turn to sacrifice or otherwise remove the tokens.
this turns.
I like the Forgemaster and Helion Eruption synergies/combos/whatever.
2. do to the bump it also makes a nice infect blocker, it's always losing -1/-1 counters & generating blockers.
3. it consistently triggers ETB effects... I just can't seem to find any in standard it enables outside of metalcraft. edit archon of redemption = 10 life not that bad.

this turns.
By the end of your opponent's turn you could:
Kuldotha Forgemaster 3 tokens & fetch another artifact
shape anew (but that works better with precusor golem
throne of geth and proliferate
Bloodthrone Vampire get's a new friend
you could also use the ol' Butcher of Malakir to do the I sacrifice a token, you sacrifce a ____ combo
carnage altar and culling dias work just fine with it.
Eldrazi Monument combos well too
Hellion Eruption works well to
Viscera Seer can scry a bit...

There ya go.
Also a good surprise with Goblin Bushwhacker. Broad pump cards and haste cards are good with this.
Vengevine does not work with this, in that you have to cast another spell besides the Assembly.
