This seems like a pretty decent combo: It's the creature dealing damage, so a creature with infect targeted by a spell would give 2 poison counters. If you throw a Distortion Strike on a 1/1 with this and it hits, that's 6 poison counters. Giant Growth on a Plague Stinger would net 8 poison counters if it hit.
One of the better equips for Infect deck, and fairly easy to get out with a 2 cmc and 2 to equip, plus it would do pretty nicely for a few aggro decks too.
Can anyone tell me what cards *outside* of block Livewire Lash would go well with? Especially rare cards in ~extended (for a pseudo-EDH deck I wanna put this in)?
Problems:
1) It would have to be a creature you would want to target with your own spells.
2) You would have to have an array of spells and/or a repeatable spell you would want to target it with.
It's tailor-made to be a great tool for Infect. It boosts the creature's power, which is especially potent when attacking an effective life total of 10, and you naturally want to be targeting your infect creatures with pump spells anyway, which deals more direct damage, and therefore poison counters, directly to the opponent. And on top of that, once it's equipped, your opponent's targeted removal on your creature comes at the price of an additional chunk of damage to their smaller life total.
Outside of Infect, it's not so great, but that's not really the point. It's made to be used with poison and that's what it will be used for.
Livewire Lash is a downright kick-ass card anyway. Infect is a good plan, but it shouldnt be used JUST for infect. Its an amazing card. Imagine equipping it to a Vampire Nighthawk. Or anything with lifelink or deathtouch.... hmmm, run it with Basilisk Collar, anyone?

Even with Nighthawk and such, how often are you going to be targeting your own creature with a spell? Only infect seems like it will be running enough pump to make the most of this equipment.

You don't have to. Nighthawk with LL would be a threat that needs to be dealt with. But when an opponent tries to target it, you can either take out one of his own creatures, or get a free Soul Syphon. Of course, your Nighthawk will be dead, but hey, its done its job.

This has nice synergy with infect, the problem is finding a place in the deck for it.
Most test decks are running only 2x on Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon " target="blank">Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon , so you have room for a couple of these. The card is also potentially good with a Warren Instigator or decks using pump up instants. But with only one goblin to use it with does not seem worth it.
Playing 3x Virulent Swipe" target="blank">Virulent Swipe and 3x Distortion Strike" target="blank">Distortion Strike gives you some nice psychological back up in the infect deck. Especially when you combine them with Infiltration Lens" target="blank">Infiltration Lens and make your opponent guess on what to do; to "block or not to block." Or, do you give the player 2 cards and more ammo or take some nasty poison counters? If you are playing UB infect I think your opponent will be constantly on edge thinking what they will block or take and very uncertain whether to use control cards early on or wait knowing that a nasty dragon is coming or your infect creatures get bigger with Hand of the Praetors" target="blank">Hand of the Praetors.

Any man who reads too much and uses his own brain too little falls into lazy habits of thinking. -Albert Einstein
You haven't even mentioned the frosting on this delicious cake: when your opponent gets scared and has to kill your creature, he gets another 2 poison counters.
Also, if you run into removal and respond with Withstand Death, or, better yet, Emerge Unscathed, that's 4 (or, in the latter case, 6), and if they have a backup kill spell...
That's a complete non-sequitur. How does the number of skithriyxs in the deck imply that there is room in the whole deck?
I wasn't clear: some testing ideas included 4 x the dragon, and some were insisting on a full play set. So, in other words, and what I was meaning to state, you could take two out and replace with the equipment instead of overkill with Skithiryx. I see your non sequitor point. The context was in relation what to take out for the equipment.

hey guys. yeah i've already been testing this for the last couple of hours. i think it works better in the green deck which has more infect creatures to get down into play. that + multiple giant growths and the green card that gives the creature shroud and +4+4 is awesome. definitely won a lot of games off lashwire!!!

Obviously it's not standard, but Gigadrowse seems like your best bet for targeting it multiple times. Just do it after you attack.
Actually... here is a good question. Fireball, you can pay 1 for another target. Can you target the same creature, if so I'm assuming it would also trigger the equipment multiple times. If so, then that would be the cheapest card for the combo.
<edit> Looking online it appears the fireball method is out, it has to target different creatures or players. Gigadrowse still works!</edit>
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I kind of wish I had Might of Oaks back in standard .

Now that i think about it, for Green: Prey's Vengeance. It's 1 less P/T, but has rebound, effectively netting you one more poison counter than the Giant Growth, assuming your equipped creature isn't killed. (Assuming the target is a Lash Equipped Stinger: 2 for the first targeting of PV, 5 on the swing, and 2 for the next turn targeting for a total of 9.)
Outside of Infect: Maybe a W equip deck? It's fairly cheap, allows you to at least do some damage in the face of a kill spell, and if you decide to Emerge Unscathed it, then that's 2 more damage + 2 more next turn if you decide to target it again. Other than that... most creatures that do something upon dealing damage have it only trigger on combat damage... but there's a few (like Barbed Shocker that don't.)
I definitely picked these up as soon as they were revealed, seems like a no-brainer for any pump-infect deck. These along with Mimic Vat are going to make Infect decks actually borderline playable.
View from above with Livewire Lash can be amazing. You run a blue / white aggro with creatures like Stoneforge Mystic to get the lash. And then you have repeatable 2 cost 2 damage, and if the equiped creature has deathtouch, lifelink, or infest. . .

Unfortunately, View From Above will have rotated when SoM becomes Standard legal. Of course, if you're talking about extended or casual, then ignore this.

Several years ago, WotC apparently surveyed Magic players across the globe. They found that people liked turning things sideways, and hated LD. This is the result:
Is there a version of infect decks that plays red?
If I've got the Lash on my infect creature and its got 2 or more toughness, I think playing Arc Trail to kill a blocker and target my equipped creature for 1 damage (ie 2 poison counters on opp), is good. Forked Bolt works the same way. If I've got a Lash out on 2 infect creatures and no way to punch through, Forked Bolt basically reads: "R. Instant Target player gets 4 poison counters."

Honestly the infect version I'm testing right now is 90% black. You can pick any color you want to combo with it. Heck if you're two poison shy of winning you can hit your guy with your own removal.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.

Not to mention Assault Strobe. I wish the it were an instant, but casting it + distortion strike on a Livewire Lash-equipped anything essentially wins you games. I think G/B/r might be a surprise hit for Infect Decks.

I'm finding it rather hard put it in a deck where it would be anything other than a more expensive Bonesplitter with very, very good art.

It's not rare, but you could do a cute combo with any white creature, the lash, and View from Above. (or any creature, and another white permanent)
