Ive been brewing on a mono colorless standard deck for some time now, using Lodestone golems, Steel overseers, Voltaic Key, Everflowing Chalice, Triskellion, Basilisk Collar, a singleton Platinum Angel and lots of other utilities like Brittle Effigy, Elixir of Immortality etc. Together with the eldrazi titans its has prooved quite potent in most matchups.
The Wyrm can be swapped for the titans which will make it more powerful and fast.
The tech in the deck is that all lands are colorless so you get to use Eye of Ugin, (can find ANY colorless creature), Eldrazi Temple, Quicksand, Dread Statuary, Tectonic edge etc. Couple that with All is Dust and you have a serious artifact agro deck with a few tricks. Incredible fun to play, althought a bit inconsistent. Note: I have 4 plains in the deck to take advantage of Path to Exile hitting my creatures.
Also, Expedition maps helps you get any land for a given situation.
- Pandemonium effects,
- Fling/Rite of Consumption/Momenteous Fall,
- good with basilisk col... wait! Nevermind.
- Give it trample, see how the hell they block. Even if it's an instant that gives trample for a turn, it will be worth it.
- Soul's fire no sacrifice and divide, but you gain life and it's still a 6/6. Too bad it rotates.
- Give it vigilance and/or flying, see how the hell they attack you.

Fling? meh... too willing to sacrifice a beater imo... Ramping to a turn 3 wurmcoil or something would me more effective imo as your damage will most likely be cumutively more.
I think you're heavily overrating this if you say it's better than all of the titans. It looks like it's better against a burn heavy deck, although if you've stabilized to the point where you can cast 6 drops it might not matter which threat you use. It also looks like it's better against Wrath of God, if that worries you.
I feel that it's weaker than the other heavy hitters in Standard like the titans, Gideon, Avenger depending on the matchup, Abyssal Persecuter, Baneslayer etc.
Also, suggesting this as a replacement for Sovereigns is probably the most ridiculous thing you said... even Rafiq of the Many would be better than Wurmcoil in that deck. It's looking for an explosive play that can deal a lot of damage immediately. Wurmcoil will do nothing the turn he comes into play, so the opponent has time to prepare an answer.
In what universe? If you build a deck like that, and ever draw that hand, I will personally come to wherever you live, perform complicated acts of awestruck ********, then disembowel myself to escape the world that allowed something like this to occur and validate you.
For some reason everyone seems to think this guy does stuff when he hits the board....
The reason the titans are stupidily awesome is that they have board affecting abilities the turn they resolve, if you cast Wurmcoil and they have any answer then you've done nothing, but if you cast a Titan and they get removed, you at least got their ability once...
Not to mention the best deck in the format 1:1s this guy all day long...
He will be playable, and might go in some decks, but coming after the titans and not before makes him lackluster
If it's in a mono green deck, why not swing with it, then on their turn hit it with momentous fall? gain life to protect against their attack, gain 2 surprise blockers for their attack, AND draw more steam for your next turn. 6 to be exact.

You misunderstood what I was saying. In the process of considering whether the Wurm will be more effective in an aggro/mid-range deck or a control deck I was merely suggesting that you could play the Wurm in a aggro ramp shell that has already proven it can consistently hit six mana on turn 3 or 4, and used mythic conscription as an example. It is only a replacement for Sovereigns because Sovereigns will rotate (along with Noble Hierarch and Knight of the Reliquary amongst others) and mythic conscription will cease to exist in it's current form.
Taking that into account, the suggestion of playing the Wurm and Rafiq in standard together is even more ridiculous.

It doesn't do something when he hits play, but if it gets answered by any non-exile card it leaves 2 3/3 wurms behind, so you won't have "nothing". Essentially this card is challenging your opponent to have Journey to Nowhere or Condemn, or just concede their ability to profitably race with creatures.
Mono-Green has no problem dealing with the Wurm, and in mono-green i would rather go with Primeval Titan to search out Oran-Rief the Vastwood, remember it is a artifact, which green has no problem removing.
I think it could have a big impact if we get good colorless ramp, like Grim Monolith to go with that Voltaic Key. Otherwise, the Titans are pretty much better. The Titans have an immediate effect on the board and then provide incremental card advantage after. Condemn, for example, 141's with Wurmcoil Engine but the Titans have already triggered twice.
Granted, Wurmcoil Engine is good against red decks at "winning the race," but doesn't Baneslayer Angel do that better anyway? Hmm, I guess another application I could see for it would be in mono-red Destructive Force (if that's possible post-SoM)?
Not to mention the best deck in the format 1:1s this guy all day long...
And what deck will do this?
Can't have any destroy effects or damage. Path and O-ring are leaving, and as far as we know, aren't coming back. Unless you wanted to condemn it, and there are several ways to either answer or prevent that. To name a few, vines of vastwood, mana leak (or any other counter), emerge unscathed, canopy cover, whispersilk cloak.. you get the idea.

oddly enough, the whispersilk is probably the most viable one of those when you take Stoneforge into consideration.
'dies to removal' isn't a valid argument anyway with something like this, BSA, or Sun Titan. you aren't always going to have that clutch journey/condemn/o-ring/whatever to nuke it, and in this guy's case even if you do kill it with something other than condemn/journey the removal is rendered null and void by the tokens.
Take your monoblack deck, then set aside 14 swamps. Add 4 Creeping Tar Pits, 4 Darkslick Shores, 4 Drowned Catacombs, and 2 Jwar isle Refuge and add 4 Jace, the Mindsculptors. Your monoblack deck is instantly better. Better yet, drop those refuges, throw in some islands and some mana leaks, and lo and behold, you're now playing a real deck. Congratulations. Welcome to the world of competitive M:TG.
I can't wait till I can build a decent artifact-based deck again... we have Chalice, Overseer, Trisky, and now this... we need an O-Stone replacement and some decent cheap artifact utility dudes...
Worst case scenario: Frost Titan, lock down!
Worst case scenario 2: O-ring (if reprinted)
I want to see this in mono green real bad.

the wurm is a blunt object. we know what to do with those.
I can't really see the fail in this thing.
