I know I never got around to posting my full-blown update from last week, but I have an update I want to put in since we're past the pre-sale stage.
Again, no time for a nice, formatted list right now, but for some interesting trends:
* My list is at 63 now. It includes all cards with an average of $1 or more.
* My Top 21 are still all above $5 (the low-end of that is Captain of the Watch at $5.09).
* The $9+ range is up to 15 cards, up from 13 last time (due to Great Sable Stag and Elvish Archdruidjumping in price).
* The $10+ range is down to 6 cards from 7 last time (Darksteel Colossus cooled a good bit, also adding the Stag and Archdruid)
* To show the volatility in these card prices early on...my previous 5th place card Pithing Needle is now 15th. On the flip side, my previous 16th place card Elvish Archdruid jumped all the way to 5th! On average, Pithing Needle lost only $1 on average while the Archdruid gained $3.

To those asking about where GSS is used, it was maindecked and sideboarded in Jund aggro builds from the many nationals results. It was maindecked more often than sideboarded, apparently.
Also, Shuhei Nakamura won Nationals with 4 GSS in his 5CC build. He beated Faeries (Yuuya Watanabe) 3-1 in the finals because of the Elk.

Island taps for U and cost zero. It should be banned.
Yes but..... Those decks all go away when zendikar rolls on in. Most of the good elves iin those decks rotate out.
We have no idea what will be in ZEN. For all you know it will be the most amazing set of worthy targets since Onslaught block. Besides, Seds told us one of his contacts confirmed the five tribes will see support in ZEN. How much, is up for debate... but to say that "most of the good elves will rotate out" is a bit silly since we have no idea if the replacements are better.
Wow, I thought I was getting a great trade swampping somoene Elvish Archdruid and Great Sable Stag for two M10 U/B duals, but I guess it was slightly in his favor! Luckily I opened the archdruid and traded a $5 card for the stag.
Really? In Rancored Elf's thread you are going to ask this?
Im kind of in agreeance here. I post on these threads to provide additional data for pricing as well as selling trends and other information I can provide for these new sets. It was never my intention to hijack RE's thread nor to try to be some sort of competition to him.
Fact of the matter is though, I sell on ebay like a lot of other sellers, the information I provide will likely be the prices I would sell them at on ebay but with certain cards like the elf, since Ive run through so many allready I cannot guarantee that I would have any available to list because of the need to keep my shop stock up.
RE also offers free shipping, something that most ebay sellers, including myself do not. So there are still clear benefits to buying from someone like RE than others. Im here to provide data and selling trends, nothing more, if you are looking for places to buy cards, you can check ebay, you can check various online stores, you can check individual online sellers like RE who run their own sites, or you can check your local card shops. Or there is always trading via various sources including one on here I believe.
I ask people though to try to keep the thread on topic and try to stay away from asking certain people about where one can purchase their cards, I know at least for me, it makes me uncomfortable. At the very least questions like that should be made via private messages if they are made at all, though I of course appreciate the interest, and enjoy providing this pricing/value information for you guys to use :).
As a side note and something to keep in mind, I get my valuations and pricing from ebay completed listings. Ebay is notorious for lagging most trends and online stores because there are so many available and because most listings last a week and because of all the buy-it-now listings that get used. So while a card might shoot up to $10-$12 everywhere else and be selling like crazy, prices on ebay might still be in the $8-$9 range for a day or two until all the cheaper stuff gets bought up and the auctions start getting bid up higher. Inevitably though and usually within a short period of time ebay does catch up with everyone else, so if some of my prices seem low at the moment that I mentioned in my previous update post, then that is probably a contributor as to why. Figured I would mention that so people dont get the wrong idea about my prices/pricing.
jeffbcrandall - keep it up. i would rather see some data and analysis from multiple sources then a "what i cracked and traded for" thread. The thread is for some centralized data and trending for us lazy people who don't want to go find it. no harm no foul
Alright! Here's my list right now. Changes are based on a version of the file I use from this past Friday.
Just as a reminder, my list keeps track of all cards that average to at least $1 in value. That list is currently at 63 cards.
Averages come from five places (if prices are available): Rancored_Elf, JeffbCrandall, David & Judith's, Star City Games, and Magic.tcgplayer.com .
While I won't list position changes in the Top 20, I will highlight the top 4 position gainers for the Top 20 in green text and the top 5 position losers for the Top 20 in pink text (unless someone has better suggestions for the "loser" color, but you've gotta admit, pink is kinda embarrassing for a card, right? ). (I'd have done "Top 5 gainers" but after 4 cards it comes to "no change" before hitting the position losers).
Reactions:
I sense that Great Sable Stag and Elvish Archdruid will cool a bit once the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor mega-block rotates (assuming Zendikar doesn’t support good Elves or good Blue/Black cards). The power that is Faeries will die, so Great Sable Stag should go down from its current high, and Elvish Archdruid will keep a decent price but nowhere near what it’s going for right now unless it finds a home in major Extended decklists or Elves come back with a vengeance in Zendikar.
Sanguine Bond was a bit of a surprise this update. I love it because it gives life gain decks a way to do some damage at the same time, especially if they can splash Black or use some of Black’s “damage + life gain” (i.e.: Consume Spirit, an unblocked Child of Night) to its benefit for what essentially amounts to double damage.
Pithing Needle dropping 10 spots was a huge surprise for me! And it only lost about $1.50 in value to boot! I mean, especially considering it’s a Planeswalker and Elf killer. Guess there are just better options for general deck/side deck space.
Sanguine Bond was a bit of a surprise this update.
I'm actually shocked it's not higher on many lists. SCG had it as sold out before the set was released at 99 cents... It's just one of those cards that isn't tournament viable, but begs to have decks built around them. This out + Divinity Of Pride = people won't want to attack you.
It was never my intention to hijack RE's thread nor to try to be some sort of competition to him. At the very least questions like that should be made via private messages if they are made at all
It makes no difference to me whether people ask to buy your cards in the open, or secretly. In fact I'd probably rather know about it, so I know how much business your presence in my thread is costing me. Kidding.
But I was going to ask you (before this came up) to keep your updates down to once a week or more, and your posts down to once a day or so. When you're filling the thread with your posts answering all the questions that come up etc, it kinda becomes your thread. I'm sure the mods wouldn't mind another price update thread popping up, and now that you're well known around here you could probably support your own and get plenty of interest. I for one appreciate the data and analysis you come up with, though I think if you want to do it in my thread you should keep to a secondary role, not primary. :D:thumbsup: (To be clear, my preference would be for you to continue posting here, but obviously it's up to you!)
eBay seems to have Archdruid at $10 right now (three auctions for playsets, all at $40 plus shipping) and as Jeff said, sometimes eBay is a lagging indicator. It generally doesn't lag for more than a day or two from the major websites that update regularly, so to see those Buy-it-Nows go up to 44.99 and above next time those auctions sell and get relisted wouldn't surprise me. The card is proving itself in multiple casual and tournament decks, and will be a fan favourite until the end of time. A better elf-ball card will likely never be made. 3 mana for a Gaea's Anthem and a bigger Priest of Titania combined - amazing.
And now for a general M10 pricing thought. I definitely love the idea of Core Sets being part reprinted and part new. But I think this policy is the cause of M10 being so great. It seems to me that by dropping cards like Wrath of God, they realized they HAD to come up with some amazing new cards to appease the players. Losing Wrath would have been the downfall of M10 if they hadn't jam-packed it full of new goodies. It's almost like a bribe. They really wanted Wrath out, and this is the only way they could do it without causing a boycott of the entire set. That said, I think we all win, as the new stuff they came out with is obviously very pushed in terms of power-level and also diverse, playable, and interesting. It's a good trade imo, since my own play is more casual/legacy. I don't much care that Wrath isn't being reprinted again. I'm very happy on the other hand to see awesome playables (and sellables) like Archdruid, Baneslayer, Honor, Silence, and the duals.

Ill probably just keep posting here rather than starting my own thread. And I have no problem keeping the large updates to once a week, lots of craziness happens the first week so I was posting multiple updates as stuff changed. But I probably wont be doing price updates myself more than once a week now that trends have shown themselves now so I wont have to keep checking every other day to see if something went up a ton again because of another big deck. Also the once a day reply posts is fine. Ill just have to do like you and go through and reply to 10 posts to cover everything which Im happy to do :). As I said, I didnt want to hijack your thread and just want to provide helpful information for people :). If theres anything else I can do, or not do as the case may be just let me know, otherwise Ill continue posting with the above mentioned conditions and continue looking forward to what everyone has to say about the set as always :).
You my question to those who sell. I am getting different vibes from the merfolk and zombie lords. One place sells em for 1.99 and one for 3.00 and some have them in between. When you price those is it due to demand for the card or just what you think it should be worth? Same with the druid some sell em for 10 and some for 13.00 what is up with that?

I saw the Merfolk one for $5 at a local shop (which also had Angel and Ajani both at $20), and kids were trading like crazy for it. I think each shop has it's delegation of regulars who are more or less tuned into casual play. I know the previously mentioned shop has a large EDH following, so weird rares are often highly tradeable with that group.

Those 3 lords (inserting Vampire one) have either simple non-game-breaking effects OR it is a weak tribe in standard, unlike the other 3. If urzza's info is correct, with Zendikar, these tribes will get stronger and these lords should rise a bit.

Are you asking how we, specifically, price those two cards? I don't know that I use any different "pricing technique" or anything. I just go by what the going price is, before shipping is added, and then sell the card at about that amount, with free shipping. I do adjust slightly up or down from that number based on my own hunch about the long term casual appeal of the card, and other factors. I went a little on the high side for those two lords, probably by fifty cents, because they were selling well and I see them as potential casual favourites.
Well I did it I priced them and bought the cards i wanted on the cheap. For the green, blue, back lords, and ball lightining . I paid 70.27. which was the cheapest prices I could find. Troll and toad had most of those cheaper but were out of the balls and elves

Yeah, some things are getting hard to find on online sellers. SCG is out of Baneslayers, HotP, and Archdruids and is getting mighty low on Merfolk Sovereigns atm (6 in stock as of this writing). Yesterday they ran out of Harm's Way and Doom Blades for a while. They've restocked those in a big way. Surprisingly, they're also getting low on Essence Scatter, GSS, Sleep, and Time Warp.

This may not be a good measure, as SCG went to Nationals today and they probably took almost everything they thought they could sell.
Would you say that 10M is (from a sales perspective) a success on par with 10th or 6th? Does it beat out those sets?
I was just getting started during 6th, so I don't have numbers for back then. And as mentioned, only very preliminary data is available right now for M10, but my guess is that it will outsell 10th edition, which was a fairly decent Core Set. Newcomers like Baneslayer, Archdruid, and Honor really help. Nobody has those cards yet, and they're highly playable, so they're worth good coin.
I really helped contribute to the sucess of 10th. I bought oodles and oodles of that product. It was a very good set, I think this one will outsell 10th
The angel just keeps going strong 25 bucks and going. I wonder what all the fuss is about her though yes flying and first strike and lifelink but I can terror, doom blade, path etc.. to her What makes her so special that she has to go up in price?

The fact that you have to terror, Doomblade, Path, etc. her right away or you're ****ed pretty much. 5CC is using her as a finisher, often over Broodmate. She puts out 10 point life swings and you need something bigger than a 5/5 to put her down if you lack the spot removal. I really don't know why anyone is still confused about how good she is. You haven't played her or across from her yet I'm guessing. She's hardcore and demands an answer right away.

You haven't played her or across from her yet I'm guessing. She's hardcore and demands an answer right away.Commander
