Anyone else find that almost any deck gets better with a set of Explorer's Scope in it? Either outcome is good, really - you either get a free extra land drop or you know you're drawing into spells.
Assuming you're attacking. Even in aggro-ish decks, you're probably only ever going to get one land from it; just run a rampant growth instead (if in color of course).
Is Rampant Growth the best card in any (non-Homelands) set? Far from it.

I love this card.
You don't get anything if it's not a land.
And no, it isn't awesome, it's too much time and mana to -maybe- get more lands.
Yeah, but "THE best card in the set"? Sure, it's just one mana to drop, and only one to equip, but it's a bit limited in its function (seeing how it's just a common, and has only one purpose in essence). It helps fixing your mana quickly, but I think it has its niche mostly in Landfall deck, and those with the specialty to get lands into play. Other than that... it's not actually that impressive, at least not in Constructed.
Sorry guys, but you are all in fact wrong, it is the best card in Zendikar. It even has synergy with Lotus Cobra, and that card needs some support to make work, trust me.
The only thing that could really screw you over is someone countering or destroying your Explorer's Scope, but that's why you run 5 (one up the sleeve obv.).
In all seriousness, I think more decks will feature Scope in 6 months than Cobra.
It costs less than rampant growth and it has a repeatable effect. Who doesn't attack with a creature nowadays?
...and it doesn't have the "basic land" limitation of rampant growth... I guess you took the wrong card to make a comparison...
edit: maybe it's not the best card but it iis a very good one

How did I KNOW someone was going to mention Cobra with it! I must my ****ing pyschic! Or the Cobra hype isn't dead yet.
I don't think it'll be run more then corba period, even after cobra hits a peak and falls.
I wouldn't say construction worthy, but it makes limited a whole lot more stable. Even if it didn't put the lands in play, its worth it to make sure you don't waste a draw into a land when what you need gas.
Putting it into play is just sauce on top. Really amazing sauce.
At the pre-release I won a couple of games due to a first turn Goblin Guide, second turn scope/equip. In a lucky turn of events, in the next two turns, my scope netted me a land, my guide netted them nothing. Unlikely, but jesus were those matches blowouts.
Uhm... how is this a combo with cobra? Scope is a good card. Cobra is a good card. But they do NOT have synergy because the land comes into play during the attack phase and the mana must be used then. Sure there are some corner cases where you can profitably use the mana for Vines of Vastwood or Giant Growth, etc. But for the most part the cobra and scope just dont like each other much.
The scope is trash. It doesn't do anything on its own so it would have to be extremely powerful to see play (Sword of Fire and Ice Jitte). It is nowhere near as powerful as those cards.

Pssh. It costs 2 to activate. It might get you a land that turn, it'll probably get you 1 land during the length of an average game.
Rampant Growth costs 2 to activate and gets you the land you need, for sure, right away.
There are a little upsides and downsides to each, but they're of comparable power. It is not the best card in the set. It's not even the best common in the set.
I like it, and it'll get played a little in constructed. Getting ramp in colors not used to having ramp is pretty good. But seriously, not awesome in every deck; not the best card in the set.
This card was huge for me in my UG Landfall deck at the Prerelease...I'll have to experiment tossing it in other decks, but it's hard to cut cards for it.
If one is going to evalute a card they should evaluate the archetypes it plays in. Currently I do not foresee any archetype I would be that enamored with the scopes performance. In the decks that have creatures early enough to really "ramp" with it, I really cannot use that much mana. The decks that really benefit from it tend to be on the slower side of things, and those decks honestly would be better served by Rampant Growth or Fertile Ground variants. Ultimately, the only critter I see reliably carrying this in the early turns would be Putrid Leech since you see him in most decks running G/B period. You could also try including it in Vampires, they have a pretty aggressive curve that tops out high.

Card advantage-wise, if you run 2/5 land, then on average you'll have gained card advantage after three attacks. And the card advantage isn't really getting a free land; you've actually drawn a card deeper into your deck (due to not needing to draw that land in your draw step), so you've probably gotten an extra spell. Every extra attack past three is just free card advantage. Oh, and it accelerates your mana by putting the land directly into play, too.
Wait, is this discussion supposed to be about Constructed or Limited? The OP doesn't really specify, and I think it's two totally different discussions.

I'll give you a minute to reread what I posted, broski.
This is like being attacked by a 0/2 Goblin Guide every turn, except 10 times better. This is a very good thing.
Exactly.

Naively, I'd want it in midrange soldiers to get to Captain of the Watch or Conquerer's Pledge earlier.
