How awesome is this? Fellow Red players, high five! *clap*
So I guess this pretty much rules out Incinerate from being reprinted. Does this mean that Wizards might be pushing a Green regeneration theme?
Will this warp the metagame? Probably a bit. I think decks are going to have to have more consistent manabases because you CANNOT miss a land against a red deck with Ball Lightning and Lightning Bolt.
Do you think Rarity will increase to Uncommon? I think it should. It'll be too insane in Limited not to.
Also, could somebody mock a card up so I can put it in the first post? Thanks in advance.
Except that core sets now rotate out with blocks yearly, so the "creep" can be completely reset from year to year (or more realistically every couple of years) if Wizards wants it to be.
For Standard. Extended will be affected by this for a long, long time.

WoTC, thank you for finally announcing the Modern format, an eternal format where everyone can participate.
I'm who posted the Golden Lotus trhead and now the GL is fake, I think this is fake too. But what I really think? those aren't "fan fakes". This is Wotc using us to test our opinion about the posibility of having a huge land as GL or LB back in standard. I don't understand... WotC: Isn't enough the custom card contest thread to stole ideas for free that now you started making fakes to left the job of annalizing if a card would be healty or not for the standar enviroment to the players, who aren't gonna reclaim any payment? It's so obnoxiously obvious... Fan fakes, yeah... My ass.
My intuitive opinion about the lightning: It's a WotC official add, that will become a "fan fake" if people arrives to the conclusion that its busted in the current standard.
My technical opinion about the lightning: It's not ok. I don't think it would be prudent to move the damage/cost scale one step at right, right now. HUGEly awful move guys.
Now send me at least 3-4 booster packs (with a "Thanks, dear player" note.)
EDIT: And I wanna read the arguments those 36 people who voted YES to the LB in the other LB trhead, because we know that almost the people isn't smarter than a gorrilla or a dolphin.
Now we need to have a 4 damage Incinerate for :1mana::symr:, char/javaline spells that deals 5 damage for 2R (wow 4 of them resolved and that's all!) because that's the relation we should do between cost and effect if we allow LB again in the standar enviroment (and of course 5/5 creatures for 4 mana will now make Juzan Djiin feel less relevant than a snot ball.) And if the relation of one mana/three damage is limited to just LB, I think it's gonna be really untidy (and LB will be clearly out of place.)
Just my two cents. (remember the Booster packs, uh?)
I'm sure shock or volcanic hammer aren't gonna be stronger because this.
ever heard of a burn deck? You can't build one with just 4 burn spells... you need an armada of burn spells to accomplish that goal. ---> Please read the damage/cost range scale I've talked about and imagine all the things that must change (in an enviroment that has seen shock as a stapple) just to acommodate/justify such that change. Just for 1 common burn spell? (that's obviously busted in standar)
I'm worried about standard (my format), not extended (just wanted to clarify.)

And the cards you mentioned that are going to be obsolete in M10 spoiler yet?
Blazing Salvo, Strafe, Volcanic Hammer, Lava Spike, Sonic Seizure aren't even t2 currently so I don't see how your statement would even remotely attribute to type 2 only when only 2 of the cards you mention are in it.
Your so called "clarification" only seems be like you back pedaling from an otherwise incorrect statement, in my opinion. Also because 2 cards you mention some are not even legal in Extended. Yes it obsoletes those cards but a with 4 lightning bolts might want to be play 4 Incinerates also along with Shard Volley as burn decks do require more then 4 copies of a burn deck.
1. How do we know this card is common? Mogg Fanatic is uncommon now and so is Serra Angel. I doubt this card is going to be common for limited format reasons. This card is very much first pick.
2. I see this card along with say Char replacing Incinerate and Shock.
Flame javelin is strictly better than char in mono red decks.
Yeah in standard if this is the only good burn spell in the format it won't be used that much. Trust me. Even as creature removal lightning bolt is mediocre against huge creatures like broodmate dragon or chameleon colossus and I don't see a reason to run it if it's not dealing damage to the dome alongside other burn.
Might warp the environment a little it depends but the entire meta isn't going to start playing RDW

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
I don't feel like Bolt is too powerful. It's not that great a turn 1 play unless you're playing pure burn, and late game Incinerate is better anyway.
Why would you say a late game incinerate is better then a lighting bolt? Both do the same damage but one cost more for the added ‘no-regen’ benefit. I would think most of the time late game you’re either going for the kill (3 to the dome) or trying to push the last bit of creature damage through and bolt can do either one the same as incinerate but cost less. I could see them being the same, but I don’t think incinerate is better.
I like Lightning Bolt just fine, but I think this was overall a bad decision. Shock and Incinerate are great as the standard for low-cost red burn... this kinda screws both, and every card comparable to them.
I'm sure shock or volcanic hammer aren't gonna be stronger because this.
I don't think you should be so sure. There are several examples of cards that are functionally inferior to other, yet they saw play.
The most recent example I can think of is the use of Boreal Druid in an elf deck. In that deck it basically was llanowar elves light 5-8, yet I think it was a crucial factor to the success of that deck.
Another example is Red Elemental Blast and Pyroblast; the latter is functionally superior, yet some decks played both (Trix), and were clearly better when doing so.
I don't think Lightning Bolt is broken, but I wish they had reprinted Chain Lightning instead. The power level is a bit lower, and it would increase the availibility of a scare card.
What we're doing here is akin to taking the text of Moby Dick, locating specific words therein, rearranging them to create a passage from Fight Club, and concluding from this evidence that Tyler Durden is based on Ahab.

Shock isn't even seeing play in Standard right now as Volcanic Hammer is netiher in exteded...
And the other cards comparation you're making are very specific card that have no other replacements. Burn spells for 1 and even 2 are a lot them around (because playing a burn spell in the 2nd turn isn't the same as playing an elf in the second turn, isn't?)
Blueconcept: Wasn't me who made that comment, it was Madroc.:rolleyes:
It maybe janky, but Shard Volley can make 16 3 dmg for 1 mana, kinda...
I personally would avoid Shard Volley at all costs, unless it was as a 2 of. the reason being that the card's drawback significantly outweighs the cards advantages.

Actually, if anything, the printing of Lightning Bolt probably makes these cards stronger, not obsolete.
Why, guy? Arguments. SOmething you should use if you wanna uninge your words with value. Don't be a monkey.
You're saying it like if there are no "cascadable" answers to Colossus.
ever heard of a burn deck? You can't build one with just 4 burn spells... you need an armada of burn spells to accomplish that goal.
Now with Lightning Bolt in Extended, Extended Burn decks have 12 of the 16 total 3 for 1's that Legacy burn decks run in total.
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Rift Bolt
4x Lava Spike
the only card these decks DON'T have, is the 4x Chain Lightning and hopefully they never do.

At this rate, I'm wondering if we'll be seeing:
Swords to Plowshares
Counterspell
Dark Ritual
Consider me a little distressed that this is making decent creatures a bit too easily killable.

Actually, Incinerate is still legit if regeneration becomes a little more widespread. But yeah, I do see your point.

Then again I don't play Legacy, but standard sounds fun with Lightning Bolt Shard Volley Ball Lightning.
I personally would avoid Shard Volley at all costs, unless it was as a 2 of. the reason being that the card's drawback significantly outweighs the cards advantages.
Lignify
Snakeform
(and I didn't even oppened the gatherer)
lignify is vulnerable to enchantment removal. Snakeform only saves you for one turn.
Puncture Blast on the Other hand weakens the Colossus permanently (or at least until the colossus deck can figure out a way to pump the Colossus).
