Does anyone else think that this set is just plain bad, like the best things ive seen so far are unmake and the R/ leige everything else seems just basically bad. I mean obviously the lands are the best thing so far, at least thats my opnion, the lands are always the money though. But i jus figured i'd see what everyone else thinks, or maybe im speaking before i should considering the whole sets not out.:D

Actually I was shocked to see we haven't had doubters already. It seems every set posts like this show up right away within days of the first spoiled card and yet this is the first that I know of for EVE. That fact alone should tell you that people are digging it for the most part, at least much more so than SHA. I adore SHA, but this set appeals to the Spike in me (what little is left).
It feels a little less powered than Shadowmoor. I'm disappointed with the Spirit Avatars so far. The only good ones seems to be the and the :symgu:.
I REALLY like that one little guy with lifelink. Plus the enchantment and you have a 7/7 beatdown with lifelink to slam around.
But the lieges I think will prove to be quite useful. We still have about 40% of the cards left...so give it a moment to reveal itself fully before making a judgement.

That's what I've been thinking, the "This set iz teh suxorz!" comments seem to be pretty limited, and that's been nice. Shadowmoor was pretty good over all, the allied interactions were nice, and now enemy interactions are even better. I think this will be a great set, especially for limited, but I see plenty here for constructed even (Retrace will be awesome).

You got to be kidding me, I thought we would finally have a set that didnt have this endless discussion about how good it is due to the fact a broken card hasn't gone out. Up to now I have already found 7 card which will affect to a greater or lesser the degree actual standard, damn we will even have new archetypes being born or revisited thanks to eventide, what has Shadowmoor done in that sense?
It's not a Golden Jesus Cookie (with chocolate AIDS-vaccine frosting),(Note - Despite what your crafty opponents may tell you, rogue Tarmogoyfs ONLY have the creature type 'Lhurgoyf'. They will not enable them to Prowl out spells after dealing combat damage. If your opponent tries this trick on you, I suggest making his Tarmogoyf even more rogue...cover it with tasty peanut butter.)
While I do am a bit disappointed that the enemy-hybrids seems to be a bit weaker than the friend-hybrids from SHA, the set feels ok overall. I do expect to see some more powerful cards in the remaining spoiler slots, specially more aggressive constructed-worth creatures, since there have been so few of those.

As always a bad set or worst set ever thread has appeared.
This is pretty useless at the moment with over a 3rd of the set still unspoiled.
The set has 5 enemy hybrid dual lands which will give the set decent dollar value in themselves. Endless Horizons is an interesting new card for white decks, Dream Fracture seems an okay new counter, Ashling, the Extinguisher seems very solid, Necroskitter seems abusable, Needle Spectre is a nice spectre variant, Syphon Life seems a good retrace based win condition for black, Raven's Cry is a nice retrace discard spell, Flame Jab is a nice retrace burn spell, Puncture Blast is a nice burn spell which can help red deal with Finks and Colossus, Stigma Lasher is a great maindeck/sideboard card for red to deal with lifegain, Thunderblust is a bit expensive but a good Ball Lightning variant, Bloom Tender has potential to produce alot of mana, Nettle Sentinels are a great 2 power 1 drop for stompy, Pyrrhic Revival is a nice new mass reanimation effect, Unmake is a great new piece of removal, Call the Skybreaker is a good retrace finisher for control, Deity of Scars is a nice fat hard to deal with creature, Sapling of Colfenor is a great addition to treefolk decks and solid in it's own right, Wurm Harvest is another great retrace finisher, Duergar Hedgemage is a nice way for rw decks to deal with enchantments/artifacts, Figure of Destiny has alot of potential, Fire at will is a nice card against token hoards, Moonhold is a really interesting rw control card, Snakeform is a nice trick and useful removal for blue and green and the Liege's are all solid assuming they have decent backup cards.
Now not all of those will make it into constructed but that's a decent number of constructed potential cards already which goes to show that Eventide is in no way a bad set.
Really? Is this thread starting already? Well okay.
I believe that Eventide is the worst set ever. On par with the suck of Homelands and or Prophecy. There are many reasons that I hate Eventide, but I better get the good points out of the way, the few gems in the rough.
*Retrace is a great mechanic, it's innovative and fun and I hope we see this built up more in the rest of the spoiled cards.
*Chroma I can't believe that they actually tried this, and they pulled it off perfectly!
ok, now to the bad
Eventide has a terrible story. The Eventide story is an unoriginal story about A youth that is different from peers around him/her, and this causes him/her to go on a grand journey to save the realm. It's the exact same thing we saw in Shadowmoor and Mirrodin, it's unoriginal and boring.
Most rares are terrible. Out of the X rares in this set, only Y are even worth the money you pay for the pack. There are no Chase rares worth pulling in this set at all (except there are, I'm just ignoring the rare lands and Stigma Lasher for my argument, because they actually suck)
Eventide doesn't do (color maters) good enough. Eventide tries to pull of building around colors in a way that Ravnica has, but fails to be different enough/isn't powerful enough/is too far awayfrom Ravnica. Building our decks for us around colors is stupid.
Stigma Lasher makes control/aggro/combo stupid good! I can't believe Wizards would do something like that and hose lifegain while making red so good.
Bloom Tender makes green color (usually green or blue in that blank) suck/too good. Green has already been stupid/not had enough support since day one! why they would give/take away Green power like this is stupid.
These reason are why I declare Eventidethe worst set ever/the reason magic is dying.
I just realized. Mycoloth perfectly demonstrates the devour mechanic.
Mycoloth: NOMNOMNOM on Dragon Fodder.
One turn later, 1/1 turds come out.

Morphling? Crap, janky rare. It costs five mana and does nothing in the turn it comes into play. It dies to mass removal and split-second removal before it do anything. At any rate, if you haven't won the game by turn five you should as well be conceding.
On a more serious (and on-topic) note: Yeah, so far Eventide hasn't made me go "wow!" except for Endless Horizons. But it hasn't made me go "booo!" too, and it seems to be quite fun in limited. And, of course, there are some very solid cards that will likely see constructed play. And there's still 70 cards to be spoiled, so there might be a few more great cards there.
White Mana Severance enchant and the b/w rfg spell are the only things outside of the lands that perks my interest.

Don't you see that the whole aim of Moderators is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make infractions literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. Every concept that can ever be needed, will be expressed by exactly one word, with its meaning rigidly defined and all its subsidiary meanings rubbed out and forgotten.
I don't normally like these threads, however so far eventide reminds me of fallen empires.
The rares are awful, the whole set is largely rubbish but any cards of worth are common/uncommon.
Admitedly all the good cards could be in the last 70, but statistically we should have seen at least something decent
You've got to be kidding me, this reminds you of Fallen Empires? Please, this is worlds better. I really do wonder though what it will take to stop people from moaning about this whole "worst set" bull ****. If it's too good everyone will be screaming because it's broken. Every set has ups and downs. I am seeing good rares, good uncommons, and hell even good commons which makes me very happy. So far I am considerably more likely to crack a pack of this than Shadowmoor (where every fourth pack I buy has a Wort, the Raidmother staring at me. GO AWAY ALREADY, STAY OUT OF MY PACKS! Damn playset now, geez...
There is plenty that is decent here, I'm just wondering what some people's standards are. None of this has even been played yet, and yes some things seem inadequate from comparison (I'm not a big fan of the Nobilis avatar, for instance), but there's other stuff that could be great, or even format/archetype altering. Give it a chance and stop the belly aching until it's at least been tried. Hell, I might even find Nobilis awesome in practice, who knows?

Curiously enough in all these years, I've never suscribed to one of these threads. I always like to rescue the positive stuff and think that everything evens up. But this set has dissappointed me beyond words. Thinking about it, the reason might be the goddamn amount of cycles in SHA. Most of them were golden. Persist was awesome. Wither felt as if should be an evergreen mechanic. They made everything so lineal (and so good) that it made me expect to get at least the same amount of goodness from EVE.
But it seems they failed at meeting their own standards. The HHH cycle is trash, most of the persist creatures are overcosted and unimaginative garbage, the avatars are not bad but by no means as impressive as SHA's, the wither creatures are bland fillers. Really, the only cycle in EVE that I'd put on par with its SHA version is the Lieges one, and that's yet to be seen, because despite their nice triggered abilities their higher cost makes their main function (to pump a myriad of other aggresive guys) way weaker.
So yeah..for first time I will say that this is the worse set... not ever by any means, but certainly it is in the big LOR-EVE block. The 70+ cards left to spoil would need to be ridiculous amazing to shake the piss-poor vibe I already got from it
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.

So far this set will get a decent rating from me and I was pretty harsh on shadowmoor, rightfully so, it didnt add a whole lot to game other than persist (whiter was just boring) and some straight forward agro creatures that are good.
Eventide on the other hand grows on persist, and adds the retrace mechanic that I believe is very cool and very breakable when paired with cards like life from the loam. Enemy colored dual lands also very cool! seems graveyard centric which I really like. Unmake is umm I think the first pure black removal (non-sacrificial) card ever printed that doesnt have the clause "non-black creature" on it, that is revolutionary. (I am a black lover though, so some of you may not like this, I like to see rules and cards broken generally, makes for interesting games).
What I dont like about this block is the fact they have continued to rape blue control, and all the colors feel the same, most colors have whither, persist, and retrace is spread over to many colors!! Blue is like agro now which is irritating, I dont mind color bleeding but the uniqueness has kind of been lost between each color.
As for the best card(s) in the set. I like all the ones with retrace, the dual lands, and Unmake. I still want to see a clear broken card. (these are good for the game once in awhile).
Unmake is umm I think the first pure black removal (non-sacrificial) card ever printed that doesnt have the clause "non-black creature" on it, that is revolutionary
There have been "non-green" in Future Sight and "non-Elf" in Lorwyn (or was it Morningtide?).
But Unmake is a solid, reliable removal, indeed.

Perhaps it's because when I was watching the Shadowmoor spoiler, every day was "OMGF this set is ridiculous", but man oh man, does Eventide seem weak. There are a few cards I'll definitely use, like the retrace burn in Pyromancers Swath, and the retrace discard and siphon just because they rock. Couple other things, like the G/B Avatar, and something about Noggle Hedge Mage makes me love it. Like some sort of wacky four color Revaillark-Prismatic Omen nonsense.
Still I find it interesting that so far Shadowmoor doesn’t have any decks built around any of its power cards and from first appearances, neither will Eventide. I’m really hoping to be wrong but so far… Don’t get me wrong, Shadowmoor does have many cards that are played in Standard at the moment but usually when a set that big comes out there are at least a few cards that decks can be built around.
So far the power cards are in Lorwyn and Morningtide with a few good supporting cards in Shadowmoor.

As for the best card(s) in the set. I like all the ones with retrace, the dual lands, and Unmake. I still want to see a clear broken card. (these are good for the game once in awhile).

But Unmake is a solid, reliable removal, indeed.
Good point (well non something then :-)). Unmake is also clearly better by "remove it from the game"

So far the power cards are in Lorwyn and Morningtide with a few good supporting cards in Shadowmoor.
